        Answer This Question

A:  When using depressed center grinding wheels, be sure to use only fiberglass-reinforced wheels. NEVER USE Stone Cup type wheels with this grinder. This grinder is not designed for these types of wheels and the use of such a product may result in serious personal injury.

Q:I have a Makita impack driver LXT (a few years old) with 18V BL1815 batteries, will my batteries work with this cut-off angle grinder?

              Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question. The XAG20Z 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless 4-1/2” / 5" Paddle Switch Cut-Off/Angle Grinder, with Electric Brake, Tool Only is compatible with Makita 18V Lithium-Ion batteries with a Star symbol. Check you battery for the yellow star terminal to confirm compatibility. A:  No. The BL1815 batteries will not go on the XAG20Z angle grinder. The BL1815 is a lower capacity battery, and will not adequately handle the current of this angle grinder and are made to NOT fit this angle grinder. I have this angle grinder and those exact BL1815 batteries. Not all is lost though. I also have BL1850 batteries for the angle grinder. Those BL1850 batteries DO also work on my older drill/driver that came with the BL1815 batteries AND both the BL1815 and BL1850 batteries fit and charge on the older charger that came with my older drill/driver.

A:  Thank you for your question. The switch style you choose comes down to your preference and convenience of use. For additional information, please call the Makita Call Center during business hours at (800)4-Makita, they're based in Buford, GA and are ready to help.

A:  I would not purchase the top switch. I like the paddle switch grinders much better then the top switch. If you are wearing heavy welding gloves, this design is much superior as the top switch is difficult to use. Your hand does not get tired as you have to hold the grinder anyway to keep it from kicking back at you. I refuse to purchase a top switch grinder and all of ours are paddle switch. We have approximately 7 grinders between my dad and I and all are paddle grinders. It does come down to preference, I am confident.
