A:  Yep, You should down size. You can get a 4 1/2" guard or a 5" guard in type 1A or type 27 for the smaller size fuel grinders online or from Milwaukee. They just need to have the metal tab that stick a out the top like the one that come with the 6" fuel version.

A:  you don't need to buy HD warranty, Milwaukee comes with 5 year warranty. I wish guys would read more, it's on the box and instructions. It's VERY EASY to do a warranty claim through the website and cost you nothing. Top notch customer service.

Q:Is this one smaller in hand that the 7/9" cordless milwaukee? Some are saying these a much bigger than the 4-1/2 " cordless. These are not in stores to compare, I like the smaller lighter weight of the corded 6" grinders compared to the bigger 7/9" corded designs, Some of the 6" corded grinders just seem to have a 13A motor instead of jumping to a 15A motor and large gear box. They are like a 4-1/2 on steroids, I have ordered a couple of things from HD and just looked at it and returned it because it was not what I expected but it is a little hassle. The corded big grinder is wearing out so I have to pull the trigger soon on replacing it.

A:  My other grinder is a 4 1/2 inch DeWalt corded grinder. The Milwaukee is larger but not so much and depends what battery you run which gives the grinder its heft. I use the 5.0Ah batteries and feels nice in my hands.

A:  The tool might be able to cut metal, if you had the right bit. It would be painfully slow, there are so many better ways to cut metal, I would not use this tool for that purpose as it is not designed for that purpose.

Q:I'm thinking of getting this and using the more common 4-1//2 wheels. And using the 6 when I need deep cuts. Does this model use more battery when doing ordinary grinding or just when heavy on the metal. Do you really need the 4-1/2 shield, if so why don't they include it since it claims 4-1/2 /6in?

A:  I use a 4 1/2 metal cutting wheel and it works great but the guard does get in the way some times.

A:  The 6" shield will work with the 4.5" but may limit some of the available grinding wheel. You will probably not notice the battery use with the 4.5 wheel. I recommend using at least a 5.0 battery for reliability. Note there is not a 6" cutting guard available for this model if that is your intended use. I went with the 7/9" for this reason.
