A: Thank you for the question. OSI QUAD Sealant was not designed to be used in this manner and should not be troweled. However, it is possible this intended use of the product can be done and may work for you, as long as the sealant is not encapsulated and is used on an exterior surface. It is important to understand the intended use is out of scope for the product so there are no guarantees.

Q:What will match the closest to sw7505 paint? It shows 000 which is clear. I just need something close since that paint is so dark.

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for the question. Unfortunately, OSI QUAD Advanced Formula has no close color match to SW7507 paint. Clear is the only possible choice if not painting the sealant.

A: Thank you for the question. The OSI QUAD Sealant is a solvent-based product designed for exterior use only. It is not recommended for use inside occupied living structures. A buildup of solvent vapors can be irritating to the eyes and may affect the nervous system causing dizziness, headache, or nausea. One should always read the caution and warning statements on a product prior to use and if necessary, consult the products safety data sheet.

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for the question. OSI QUAD (#406) is still an active product however, the combination of raw material availability challenges and supply chain complexities has resulted in some products and colors being more difficult to find in stores. It is best to place an order with your local retailer.

Q:With cure time dependent on temperature, humidity, and product depth, how can you determine when the product has cured?
by|Sep 13, 2022
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: Thank you for the question. Cure time is a moving target depending on the surrounding environmental conditions you have. Under normal conditions (i.e. ¼” inch bead size at 72°F and 70% relative humidity) OSI QUAD Sealant can take 7-14 days or longer for curing.

Q:The instruction says tooling not recommended. Should I just redo when applied unevenly? Would tooling affect the integrity?

Answer This Question
A: The manufacturer instruction that the product should not be tooled and is "self tooling" is, frankly, ridiculous. Mask, apply sealant, spray lightly with soapy water and tool. This from an experienced builder. The calk bead in the OSI videos is ugly.

A: Thank you for the question. When applying OSI QUAD and then tooling it too thin, smearing/feathering the sealant, and/or not maintaining sharp edges for a colored sealant will result in premature color fading of the applied sealant. This is a result of misunderstood application techniques and methods when used on prefinished materials. On materials that will be painted over, it really does not matter. However, it is important to keep in mind that a sealant without sufficient body cannot perform well in an exterior application.

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for the question. OSI QUAD Sealant is a solvent-based product and would not be recommended for use around CPVC pipes and should not be used. The solvent may cause surface crazing and weakening of the pipe. You should consult the manufacturer of this type of pipe for recommended sealing in this situation.

Q:Can I paint over this (outdoor deck) when filling cracks/gaps?
by|Jun 22, 2022

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for the question. First, OSI QUAD Sealant would not be recommended for filling gaps and cracks on a deck surface where foot traffic is expected (assuming this is the application being described). The product is not designed for this purpose and is not a traffic-bearing sealant. Second, this sealant is a solvent-based product. Painting over the sealant is possible once fully cured, at least 7-14 days or longer depending on temperature, humidity, porosity of the substrates, how the sealant was used and how much. For the application you described you may not be satisfied with the results and there are no guarantees in this situation.
