A: I don't see why not. I bought this for a cover for my main clean out because it was recommended by my plumber. Just make sure that the wider end is wider than your toilet flange so that there is no chance of it dropping in when tightening it down

Q:If you are selling your home, will this actually pass a plumbing inspection? Seems like it's just meant to be temporary but this is a bit out of my wheelhouse.

A: This is an approved plug but you will need to check with your local municipality to ensure it is approved in your area. These are typically used for testing or temporary plugging of pipe and not a permeant plug.

A: I used it as a plug for the clean-out of the bathroom stack (the old one was actually a cork). A plumber put one just like it in the kitchen stack clean-out. They work. As far as what an inspector would say in the process of selling the house, I can't say.

Answer This Question
A: You would measure the inner diameter of the pipe to determine if this product fits your application.

A: Measure the interior diameter of the pipe you wish to plug, or examine the outside of the pipe for the printed interior "trade" diameter. 4" is standard for most USA toilet sewer connections.

A: I haven't used it on an outdoor drain; however I used it to replace the 4 inch lead cap in the trap leading to the street. It is more convenient because it can be removed easier and is more secure than the lead caps. I believe this plug would work for your application, but if there won't be a need to remove it, I would lead the water outside the house by having the gutters adjusted or even removed.

A: Yes as long as it is the correct size for the pipe. It is not intended for high psi.

A: Yes, the plug will work anywhere it will fit. I don't see its mechanical ability being affected by the weather.

A: Yes this can be used outside.

A: It should but I'm not sure I use it to plug the hole in my basketball hoop after I put sand in there
So far no water has gotten in

A: The description says it all - this is a "test cap" which allows you to check for leaks before you seal it up for good. So - as far as your question - are you looking short-term or semi-permanent? (Hardly anything is truly "permanent".)
This product is intended to be short-term.
