Q:Is there a product like this to clear coat a fence with a pump sprayer?

      Answer This Question

A:  This product would work fine on a fence. It soaks in and seals the wood. It does not leave a "wood under glass" appearance like a varnish would, so it is not a clear coat in that sense. I guess that it could be considered a clear coat in the sense that it protects the wood by penetrating and sealing it without altering the appearance of the wood. We have also used this product over latex paint on exterior wood railings. There too, it penetrated and sealed without altering the appearance of the surface, and it has held up well for two years so far.

        Answer This Question

A:  On the manufacturer's website, it states "SmartGuard protects a wide variety of surfaces including wood, brick, concrete, and composite decking.*" So it should work fine.

        by|Jul 5, 2020

A:  According to the technical application information, it works on Composite,Concrete/Brick/Masonry/Stone,wood. Before apply the sealer, you have to clean the surface to free of dust or oil film. One pack dilute with 2 gallon of water. you also get more information from Home Depot product specification. I hope your work will works good.

Q:Will this damage metal? I don't want to move my patio table off my deck when I apply this product. If I spray it by the table and get some on the legs could it damage the metal or the powder coated paint?

        Answer This Question

A:  I don't think it will damages your metal service as there is no solvent in it. For your safety concern, you can wrap up your metal surface just like the people who did the car paint then you will stay away of this trouble concern.

        by|May 6, 2020

A:  i have not used this, although reading the package, it is water based but not to be used where vehicles drive. it is not recommended for garage floors, driveways or any other area with vehicular traffic. metal is not mentioned, and it can be applied after a rain, but surface must be wet when applying. it is mixed with water - 2 gallons. use soap and water to clean up. okay to apply with a pump sprayer, dries in one hour, mixed product must be used within 24 hours. i would venture a guess that it won't affect the metal surfaces, as some folks have metal fences around their decks. no mention of avoiding these surfaces. hope this helps.

A:  I do not know. I suggest the table be moved off the wooden deck.

        by|May 8, 2020

A:  Hey Mike. Thanks for reaching out to us. It's unlikely that the metal would be damaged. If you get anything on the table, we recommend cleaning with warm, soapy water to be safe. You can try covering the legs of the table to make cleanup easier. Give us a call if you have any other questions 1-800-426-6306
