Q:Do i need respiratory protection
by|May 4, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Hello Matt, the handling of insulation is addressed in the installation instructions: PROTECTIVE GEAR • Work gloves (cut-resistant type recommended, especially for steel stud installations) • Loose-fitting, long-sleeved shirt • Safety glasses • Disposable dust mask. The installation of insulation batts or rolls is unlikely to generate particulate exposures that exceed OSHA limits. Consequently, in most batt/roll installations respiratory protection will not be required but is recommended. Thank you for your inquiry.

Q:Are you able to remove the facing in order to use the insulation in a non-faced use?
          by|Feb 6, 2024
          1 Answer
          Answer This Question

A:  Hello David, We would advise that you first verify your Local Building code to confirm if a facing is required for your application. However, once confirmed you can safely peel the facing off of the fiberglass roll. Removal of the facing or vapor retarder from a faced fiberglass insulation batt or roll normally will not affect the R-value of the insulation batt. It will only affect the R-value if removing the facing also reduces the thickness of the batt. Most building codes require thermal insulation placed in the thermal envelope of a structure to be marked with the R-value of the insulation in a consistent pattern. Owens Corning faced insulation is only marked for its R-value on the facing, so removing the facing will leave the insulation batt unmarked. Thank you for your inquiry.

                Answer This Question

A:  Hello Ssal, We recommend consulting an HVAC expert to determine if or how you can insulate your ducts. Adding insulation may help in winter, but could also have potential condensation concerns in summer. HVAC expert can determine how to effectively insulate or potentially replace with insulated ducts. Faced insulation likely cannot be used as it must be in Contact with gypsum. Thank you for your inquiry!
