A:  I did not screw the boards onto the brackets and they've worked fine. However I'm using mine for book shelves, so I'm not pulling/sliding laundry or heavy things off of them.

A:  There are two holes on the underside of the brackets. Just drive a screw up through one of the holes into the shelf. There isn't an easier way - this is standard for just about every type of solid shelf out there.

A:  At least two. Beyond that, it depends on how much weight you plan on putting on it. Remember: the brackets will extend below the shelf and may interfere with objects on the lower shelf. To summarize, if you are making merchandise displays for Your new Feathers and Butterflies Emporium two. should suffice. On the other hand, if you plan to display your inventory of anvils and sledge hammers... I don't think they make enough brackets!
