Q:I painted my garage floor with the epoxy kit a month ago. In the forums i see you have suggested to use 60-80 sandpaper before using the clear coat, will it not remove the epoxy paint if i use the sand paper ? Can i apply clearcoat without sanding ?

Answer This Question

A:  Happy to clear things up. The surface must be lightly sanded before applying our Rust-Oleum Epoxyshield Garage Floor Coating Clear Kit, this will provide a surface profile that allows the clear to adhere without removing the previous coating. Applying the clear without sanding will hinder the adhesion of the clear causing it to peel over time. -Rust-Oleum Product Support 14

A:  Happy to help, Tony. Yes, the Rust-Oleum Epoxyshield Clear Topcoat Finish Kit can still be applied, however it will take some extra surface prep. The surface will need to be lightly scuff sanded to build a surface profile that allows the clear to adhere. -Rust-Oleum Product Support 14

            Answer This Question

A:  Happy to help, Oscar! While Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Garage Floor Coating Clear Top Coat Kit can be used, you will want to ensure the surface and area is warm enough during application and curing. The area and surface will need to be between 60-85 °F (15-29 °C) to ensure proper drying and curing. Because of this, the cooler may need to not be in service during this time. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 7

A:  Oh no, Parker, this is certainly not what we expect to hear. If your Rust-Oleum Epoxyshield Garage Floor Coating Clear Kit remains sticky for more than a few days this typically means something is hindering the kit from properly curing. Answer This Question

A:  We appreciate your interest, Jason. While Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Garage Floor Clear Coating can be applied to interior surfaces, we do not recommend it for use in a sauna. The exposure to high humidity and moisture can cause the coating to fail over time. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3
