A: Great question John! Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Paint can be applied over Rust-Oleum Specialty Magnetic Primer. This will provide a magnetic chalkboard. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Specialty-30-oz-Dark-Gray-Magnetic-Primer-247596/202351175 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6
A: Yes you can. Just make sure you do plenty of coats with the magnetic primer otherwise it will be really weak.
A: yes absolutely
A: Great question Jay! Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Paint is a water based coating, it can be recoated with any paint in the future. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6
A: yes. I got the green as well and it didnt cover as well as I hoped so I painted right over it with interior eggshell
A: Yes, absolutely
A: almost anything including glass
A: We would recommend priming first with the Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Water-Based Primer first, Liz. Doing so will guarantee long term performance and proper adhesion of the Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Paint. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Zinsser-Bulls-Eye-1-2-3-1-qt-White-Water-Based-Interior-Exterior-Primer-and-Sealer-2004/100398398 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 1
A: As long as you do not expect to look through the glass again. Make sure the glass is very clean before applying.
A: Great question! Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Paint can be applied to wood, metal, glass, terra cotta, paperboard and hardboard. Be sure to lightly sand smooth and glossy surfaces before application. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6
A: Yeah this should work for that. I would make sure to do a couple of coats of the paint.
A: oh yes I used both colors on glass u have to let each coat dry completely but it works
A: It would be a little bit harder to remove the dustless chalk. We used it on a sandwich board sign that we put different messages on from time to time. Is takes water and some mild soap to remove that type of chalk. Other than that, it will work fine.
A: Hi Thia, I used chalkbkard markers on mine and it worked great! I used it to make wine glasses for my wedding
A: Good question Thia! After application of Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Paint wait 3 days and then condition the surface by rubbing the side of a piece of chalk over the entire surface and erase. This will leave a coat of chalk dust that will provide the best erasability. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6
A: Glad you asked Dave! Yes, we do recommend priming wood prior to applying Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Paint. An excellent primer to use is Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch Ultra Cover Primer, this will improve adhesion of the Chalkboard Paint. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Painter-s-Touch-32-oz-Ultra-Cover-Flat-Gray-Primer-General-Purpose-Paint-1980502/100181250 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6
A: Primer on new wood in my opinion is always good practice when painting but it's not necessary. Expect to use more than one coat however for a good look, especially without primer.
A: It’s been my experience with painting no matter what it is you should always primer it first for best results
A: No, However, if you do prime you will use less of the Chalkboard paint. If you are painting raw plywood there is going to be an absorption of the first layer of paint. The Primer is designed to take care of that and to give a better adhesive to the surface you are painting.
A: No but I do recommend a pretty thick single coat or a second coat for maximum coverage
A: Good question Sammy! Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Paint can be applied to wood, metal, glass, terra cotta, paperboard and hardboard. Remove all dirt, grease, oil, salt and chemical contaminants by washing the surface with a commercial detergent, or other suitable cleaning method. Rinse with fresh water and allow to thoroughly dry. Remove loose paint and rust with a wire brush or sandpaper. Lightly sand glossy surfaces. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6
A: Personally I wouldnt put this on dry wall because its not a very strong surface. But I think you can put this on drywall, just maybe put down a primer first.
A: I can go directly on the sheetrock. However, primer is recommended because of the absorption of the sheetrock. This way you use less of the Chalkboard paint.
A: Of course you can. I would suggest that if you are going to use it to apply a message in chalk on it, that you do not put texture onto the wallboard before applying, as it makes it hard to write on and clean off as well.
A: Interesting question Diane! Prior to applying Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Paint to sheetrock (or drywall) we recommend priming the surface with a latex primer. Rust-Oleum Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Water Based Primer would be a great choice and provide superior adhesion and hiding for the Chalkboard Paint. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Zinsser-Bulls-Eye-1-2-3-1-Gal-White-Water-Based-Interior-Exterior-Primer-and-Sealer-2001/100398391 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6
A: you can paint directly onto drywall and sheetrock, but like with any other product, it may get absorbed and you may have to apply several coats. Applying primer is always a good idea. And you may want to use an oil based primer as the drywall land sheetrock are soft and writing on the chalk board surface may damage the underlying board if a lot of pressure is applied while drawing.
A: Thank you for reaching out! The labeling on our Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard item 301450 is updated, however, both items contain the same Chalkboard coating. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Specialty-30-oz-Black-Chalkboard-Paint-301450/307244935 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2
A: I ever used the other type however this one worked great I still write on the fridge I painted with chalk almost 3 years later
A: I just know the Chalkboard Paint 30 Oz spread good but it takes 4 30.Oz cans for 1 small room to finish.
A: That is not recommended. Mike
A: Happy to help, Patrice! Each quart of Rust-Oleum Specialty Chalkboard Paint has a recommended coverage of 95-120 square feet per coat. Please keep in mind that after 3 day, the surface does need to be conditioned to ensure the best erasability. The surface will need to be reconditioned after every time it is cleaned. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3
