Q:I'm considering this screw for attaching corrugated-metal sheets to my garage ceiling. I'll be driving into the ceiling studs. They specify "metal-to-metal", but will the threads bite into wood just fine? (I assume yes, but please tell me if I'm mistaken)

A: Hi MichiganDAN, this is Scott from the Teks product team. We currently do not have data to support the use of this product in a wood substrate. We recommend using our #9 Teks Roofing screws with sharp points for attaching corrugated panels to wood. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to call us at (877) 489-2726 or email us at CS@itwbrands.com

Answer This Question
A: The Teks 2-3/4" Wood-to-Metal fasteners would be a better option for fastening 2x4's to a van floor. The part number is: 21384 and link below:

A: I will only say that these are my "go to" screws for most if not all my uses. I would suggest buying a box, and trying them. If not what you want, you can return them.

A: I attached unistrut to the 5/16" H-beam flange. no breakage. This is my first time to use self-tapping screws and I was very impressed.

A: When drilling through something that thick and using these, I will normally use a regular drill bit and drill a hole first, then run these in with the drive bit. I use a drill bit that is bigger than the built in bit, but smaller than the "threads" of the screw. It works very well and I think I've only run into issue once or twice over the years.....and probably because I didn't drill a large enough hole first.

A: I would not use these in that situation. They can be convenient for mounting into a blind hole, but a drilled hole with a 1/4-20 size "nut-sert" that installs with a pop rivet style tool would probably be more secure. The strongest would be a grade 5 nut and bolt, but I'm guessing you cannot get at the backside. Grade 8 bolts have a higher tensile strength, but are also more brittle.
