A:  It certainly can. Or, you can extend copper tubing with PEX and the appropriate fittings.

A:  This doesn't include and fittings to join to existing copper. They need to be purchased separately. I recommend the shark bite parts. Easy and no torch or soldering experience needed.

          Answer This Question

A:  You would need to purchase a 1/2" to 3/4" adapter. That is the size in most cases, be sure to measure your pipe before cutting and purchasing.

          by|Dec 1, 2019

A:  You would need to have the correct parts to hook up to PEX products. Please discuss with a licensed plumber.

A:  This kit would use 1/2" foam insulation.

A:  The outside diameter of this 1/2" tubing is about 5/8". In my experience, 1/2" insulation would work. But, did you know that you might not even need insulation. Because it actually gives if it freezes, unlike rigid pipe, it can withstand much colder temperatures (low 20s...hard freezes) without damage.

A:  One point to note about cold weather, though. . . the brass fittings are less forgiving of a "hard freeze" and have the possibility of cracking during the freeze.

A:  It is believed that because of it's flexibility PEX tubing actually handles "hard freeze" (generally, temperatures below 20ºF) conditions better than rigid piping. It may be less likely to rupture. My travel trailer uses PEX throughout. There have been times when I failed to winterize early enough, but the piping withstood the freeze...and I breathed a sigh of relief.

A:  It handles it very well. Much better the copper pipe. It is however not rated for outdoor use. It must be included in pvc pipe to prevent uv damage and would still need to be winterized like any other outdoor valve.
