A: I used Vulken 116 on a large stair crank and it worked great. I saw it on a YouTube video. I followed the video and job turned out good. I have used 116 on horizontal and vertical openings. No shrinkage. I don’t know about the 45SSL product. I’m sure it is good also.

A: Thank you for posting your inquiry. Tremco Vulkem 116 sealant is a "gun grade" texture/consistency (thick, heavy bodied paste). Vulkem 45SSL is a self-leveling texture/consistency (thin, liquid-like body). Vulkem 116 must be manually tooled/shaped during application, whereas Vulkem 45SSL will flow/self-tool (in most applications). Should you have additional questions or require further assistance, please contact Tremco at 800-321-7906 or visit https://www.tremcosealants.com/contact/ and complete the contact form to have a Tremco Representative reach out to you.

Q:how long should I wait to pant over this caulk

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for posting your inquiry. Tremco polyurethane sealants accept paints and stains, however the sealant must be fully cured before such applications. Coating over the sealant before it cures restricts and/or inhibits the sealant from curing and may also adversely affect the coating. Sealant cure time is dependent upon the size and shape of the joint, humidity, and the exterior temperatures, the colder the temperature, the slower the cure. A generally acceptable cure time at 72ºF and 50% RH is 7 to 10 days. It must be understood that Tremco sealants are elastomeric in nature, enabling them to extend and compress within a construction joint. Most paints are designed to be applied to hard, non-moving surfaces and do not match the elastomeric properties of sealants. Because sealants are soft and will extend and compress, if the paint film does not move in an identical manner to the sealant, the paint may crack and peel. Tremco makes no representations or warranties regarding the compatibility and/or adhesion of paint films to Tremco sealants. It shall be the responsibility of the applicator of a particular coating applied over a Tremco sealant to take whatever measures necessary, including testing, to ensure compatibility and adhesion of the paint with the Tremco sealant. Please contact Tremco Technical Service at 866-209-2404 or visit https://www.tremcosealants.com/contact/ and complete the contact form with any questions regarding this guidance.

A: In some situations , yes....you may use vulkem on concrete. Make sure the area is cleaned of loose material and dry. A better option may be Sikaflex ...which is a concrete caulk sold at Home Depot. You will find it on a shelf where the bags of concrete are sold.
