disappointed!
I have municipal water here in Plainville, CT. It has a very high mineral content which, according to the town, is "acceptable and within the safe range". I installed all new plumbing fixtures when we bought the place because they were a mess from the calcium. The new fixtures were a mess within a month. I installed the complete aquasana system, including the SimplySoft. I have had this system in place for over a year and haven't seen even a little bit of a change. I am very disappointed that I paid all this money when I could have gotten a real softener and been done with this. (I have had the water tested to verify the content of the water before and after installing the filter)

Not as good as expected
It works but not 100%. The water in Brookfield CTis super hard and with this softener we still get about half the hard water deposits plus the fact that the broken down molecules travel back into the water is not helpful. I still can not run the dish washer without spots and if i boil the water the pot is chalky white. Maybe the traditional salt softener would have been a better choice.

Does not work for extremely hard water
We are in South Texas and have well water.. this softener does nothing for water as hard as we have. I had to reinstall the salt/potassium based one and add a reverse osmosis system to get rid of the salt taste.

SimplySoft is a descaler designed to protect your plumbing and appliance from scale buildup. While it is able to handle hardness levels below 25 GPG and works best with hardness levels at 15 GPG or below. Anything higher than that will need a system specifically designed for softening and not descaling.

No changes after installation.
The same hard water after installing this whole house water softener from Aquasana. We tested for a few weeks with different ways:
- Measuring the hard water level
- No cleaning the shower glass for a few days after each usage
- Leaving water still in a pot for a day without any other water
There was no change in any of the tests. The shower glass, which was my main hope, was the same as without the filter. So I imagine the impact over the water heater and pipes are the same and damage in long term is just the same.
When I reach out to return, I realized I would need to hire a plumber again to come remove the unit and change back the pipes all to the previous set up, so I gave up, as the cost for the plumber to install was almost the same as the unit. To remove would be the same cost again, so I left it in.
I don't recommend and if you really need a softener, go with one that it's a true one. I tried to save cost and tested this, I regret and should have just saved the money.

SimplySoft is a descaler designed to protect your plumbing and appliance from scale buildup. While it is abe to handle hardness levels below 25 GPG and works best with hardness levels at 15 GPG or below. Anything higher than that, will need a system specifically designed for softening and not descaling.
The most common way to soften water is through an ion exchange water softener. This system works by exchanging positively charged hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium) with positively charged softness minerals (sodium or potassium) on a resin surface that is regenerated. This exchange of minerals softens the water and can extend the life of plumbing systems since there is reduced clogging in the pipes. Residues, including soap scum and spotty dishes, should also diminish.
Our Scale Control Media (SCM) technology uses your home's water flow to effectively inhibit scale buildup by transforming dissolved hard minerals into harmless, inactive microscopic crystal particles that are harmlessly passed through your water and down the drain.
In addition, regarding your concern with the results of your testing: Water tests will tell you the concentration of dissolved minerals and metals, but are not an accurate measurement for contamination. Aquasana products reduce and remove harmful TDS like lead, but selectively retain or replace healthy dissolved solids like calcium, magnesium, and potassium, at a 1-to-2 ratio. Meaning, for every bad solid we take out, we replace with 2 healthy solids.

Highly pleased. Performs as advertised
We conducted extensive research and settled on the Aquasana for our high rise condo in Cape Coral, FL, where the municipal water is deplorable. Our local plumbing contractor recommended and installed the Aquasana Whole House system in a small water heater closet. We added the Sterilight UV Filter, and pre, post, and micron filters. The water taste is excellent - as good or better than any bottled water. We've also observed a noticeable improvement in the laundry, shower, and no hard water deposits/spots on the glass shower doors. The system is far superior to salt based and reverse osmosis systems as it does not waste water in the process. We are completely satisfied with our purchase.

Not work at all
I used this system almost one year and it’s not doing anything to the water. Spot still every where before and after I remove it for testing. Can’t believe they made the system like this. I wish I can get money back.

Great features
Pro: I like the Aquasana system for its simplicity, and no salt only filters to change periodically.
Con: There weren't any instruction with the system on assembly of the unit, only a colored diagram of the assembled system. There needs to be drains in the bottom of the pre filter and the micron filter to drain the water before changing the filters or the water sprays all over.

SimplySoft-Free Whole House Water Softener
My husband decided to get this "water softener" so if something happened to him, I wouldn't have to transport/fdump salt. Big mistake. I now cannot use my dishwasher+ without rinsing and wiping the glasses and dishes....water spots and white film. Big help. The original water softener with salt worked MUCH better. I called customer service and they said it was working as designed....read the small print.

Easy install and water improved
Installed the water conditioner about 3 weeks ago.
Installation was not complicated. My installation was done outdoors in the sun.
I painted it to protect it and the piping to protect it from the sun.
The water feels and behaves less hard.
I would recommend the SimplySoft Salt-Free Whole House Water Softener

Minerals Still Come Through
We moved from a house that had a whole house filter system, hoping that the Aquasana Descaler for our new house would help reduce some of the water spotting that we had with the other manufactured system. We didn't want to go with a salt system. As it turns out, even on the same water system, the Aquasana Whole house filter and Descaler does not do as good of a job as the other manufactured product, which was just a filter.
Not sure that this Descaler does any more than help reduce scale buildup in the pipes as advertised, but there is no way to know that it does this except for long term use and inspection of the inside of the pipes. We have PEX piping, so not sure if that would happen anyway. In reality, I don't think this Descaler will do anything for us. It does not reduce or eliminate the mineral spotting on fixtures or items washed with the water. We have to wipe down our fixtures, pots/pans, shower doors, and dishwasher of the white residue that shows up after washing.

No salt
Bought the system to avoid the salt type softener. Been in about 6 weeks and seems to the be working well. We don't have deposits on shower head or fixtures. Dishwasher seems to get a little deposit on the stainless. We have very hard water with calcium and manganese salts.

It Works!
Before we had this installed, our faucets (kitchen, vanity, bathtub, showers) were covered and rotting away from scale buildup. We've also had two washing machines destroyed by these buildups. My hair was dry, brittle and badly damaged. I wasn't aware that the hard water from scale had built up so much that it took most of my hair out before I researched and found that "scale" and hard water can contribute to hair loss. I'm seeing much changes happening since the installation: No more spotty build-up around faucets. I still continue to use vinegar to rinse my dishes after washing because I believe it will take some time for pipes to return to normal state (from buildup inside).

Great concept, doesn't work
We have had this item for 5 months and it simply doesn't work... we have hard city water and had rust buildup within a matter of months. we need to remove the entire system and install a traditional water softener. what a waste of money.

finally clean bathroom bowls!
I had a lot of trouble with calcium built up on my appliances and toilet bowl from our hard well water. I purchased this whole house water softener to save my appliances. My husband installed it in about half a day. We had to cut some pipes and move our hot water heater to make room for this filter. I am so happy and releived now that my toilet is clean looking and so far it works. Compared to other systems, the filter is reasonably prices and the whole system was also a great price. It didn't take too much room between our well tank and our hot water heater. This should also save our hot water heater. I am satisfied with my purchase.

Filtering

Expensive but effective
My renter complained about the hard well water at our property and I researched a few whole house softener options. I was wary of the salt-free softeners since I had read mixed reviews but was also apprehensive about traditional softeners that required regular salt additions as well as had adverse environmental impact. I settled on Aquasana purely on a whim. So far my renter is happy :): "...our skin and hair is back to normal and the dishes are looking amazing...".
Overall, initial (second hand!) impressions are good (couple weeks of use) and we'll keep an eye on future maintenance and durability.

No Salt!

It works
We have had this installed for 2 weeks now. It does not soften the water the same way a salt-based system does. However, my wife has noticed that her hair feels better after washing. However, the main reason we purchased this was the de-scaling feature. We discovered that it worked yesterday when we made jam. Previously, when boiling water to sterilize the jars the water became cloudy, the jars had film on them and the pot had a white ring around the edge. Yesterday, that was all gone. We were both just amazed.

Well, this is my very first hard water experience and I refused to go with a salt solution for solving this problem ...... it was relatively easy to install.

Not as advertised. Buyer beware! My last review seems not to have gone through. This softener says it removes chlorine but don't. Don't get conned like I did. The company said I have to buy another filter. Super disappointed! Couldn't leave a zero stars or I would have.

If you look at the specifications for this item, you will see that this system is designed to be used only as a water softener and not as a filtration system. If you are looking for a complete system, then I would point you towards the THD-600-BUNDLE, which includes the tank that is designed for chlorine reduction.

Only the Softener
I really have not had the system long enough to give a solid review. I have noticed a bit of black staining in my toilets, but have not cleaned them yet to know if it comes off easy.
