THIS MOWER IS JUNK
Bought mower from Loganville Ga Home Depot . Purchased Aug 2nd 2015 I returned it Aug. 3 2015 deck blade bracket broke while cutting 4 inch grass. Replacement was given with no problem. I returned home with mower and did nothing other than drive around yard with the kids. Returned to cut grass a few days later and a pully on deck snapped and belt jumped...... THESE MOWERS ARE JUNK! STAY AWAY!

Good product for price you pay
Not sure how valuable this review is since I have only owned this unit for 4 days. It cuts grass well. Has plenty of power. I also purchased the bagger attachment and it works well. I've had 4 riding mowers in the past with 2 of them being hydrostatic transmissions. This one is extremely jumpy if you start in 3rd or a higher gear and I don't believe you can change gears as you are moving. Bring down the throttle to minimum, put to a higher gear, release the clutch slowly. Once you get going, increase the throttle and engage blades. Follow this process and it reduces the jumpiness. It takes a little getting used to. Turning radius is great. In my honest openion, mower is good value for the price.

A Really Great Product!
Awesome Mower! Have it 3 seasons and use it to Cut 3 acres of mixed terrain and It Never Failed me Once! I really Beat the heck out of it and it still Purrs like a Kitten. I wish they would start making Cars, I would be first in line! Sure start and no grass Scalping, Plenty of Power and real tight turns, I really like this model and for the price you can't beat it. I just ordered the Soft Bagger to go with it.

DON'T BUY THIS ONE!
This is the worst buy we have made. I don't recommend you buying this mower and don't buy it from the Ellenwood store. We have had nothing but issues since we bought this mower. We tried to have the store fix the issues, and noone had a clue. We talked to a manager, they told us to come up there, we were there in like 10 minutes, he knew we were on the way, and he went to lunch. Would not answer pages or anything. We were there for almost an hour before being totally disgusted with the store. Now we have this mower, that is broke down more than we are able to use it. I wish I could get my money back for this mower. It is not worth what we paid for it at all. It does not cut right, are worthless. Should have had a clue when we got it to the house and it had a flat tire and the store refused to make it right...... I will never buy this mower again, and not sure I will even go back to the ellenwood store.

Don't buy this thing
The seat that came with the tractor does not match the assembly instructions, and there was no way to secure the seat from moving backwards and forwards, so I had to drill a hole under the seat and secure it with a screw. The "Park" lever was non-functional and so I was unable to get off the tractor with the engine still running. Must have another bad safety switch in the seat because had to turn key multiple times before would engage start. Impossible to shift gears smoothly in the move -even by pressing the brake peddle slightly. Example: Trying to shift from speed one to two and it would not move, applied slightly more pressure and it jumps to speed 4 and takes off like a bronco. When I engaged speed 6 from a stop the thing almost did a "wheelie" I actually strained my back and neck when it took off like a rocket! I arranged to return this. It does have good power and didn't bog down with high grass and pulled hills well.

Good product.
It is a really good lawn mower I love using it. Really easy to use easy to assemble, the only thing I didn't like was it was damaged on the way here so I called customer service and they refunded some of the money for me but I never got it still waiting on it.

Ariens cut corners
Five weeks later the drive belt keeps coming off...I had a Craftsmen for 14 years. Not one problem. Bought this Ariens because it was gear drive and similar to what i had. Also that it is made by Husqvarna. But ARIENS takes the product and cuts out many items. missing belt pullys. Plastic gears in transmission. Home Depot told me they do not work on Ariens because of this. I have to contact Ariens to find a dealer that will. Never again.Stay away from ARIENS!!!

Don't waste your time on this model
Purchased this mower online on July 9th. (1st trip) Picked up the mower the same day and returned home with it. It was late so I decided to wait until the next day to fool with it. Went out to start the mower the next day-would not start. Raised the hood and saw wires laying on the gas tank. I have owned riders before and had a good idea where they went. Would now turn over but would not start-had to connect the plug wire-started right up (extremely loud-need ear plugs.) Had a wire which I could not see where it belonged. (2nd trip) Returned to The Home Depot on Friday as I did not want to start the mower again and maybe ruin something. The Home Depot mechanic could not find where it belonged either and made a guess that "it's an extra wire in case you want to add another component". That didn't sound right however????? I returned home to replace the blades with a mulch kit. Had the mower on ramps. The parking brake broke-mower rolled back with me under it-I still have my head. I proceeded to remove the grass chute. This was a chore all on its own. The chute was attached to the deck with two screws-one with the threads up and the other with the threads down-something was wrong. The bolt on the right side (threads down) removed easily. The bolt on the left side (threads up) was "a trip." Evidently, whoever assembled this mower, started on the left side and used an impact wrench. The square portion next to the bolt head had had so much force put on it, that it damaged the square hole in the deck, enter the plate that attaches the grass chute to the deck and damaged it so bad that I had to hammer the bolt out. Also, if the right front wheel was positioned straight, the left front wheel was toed in-this was reversed with the left front wheel. (3rd trip) I returned to The Home Depot on Saturday and pointed out the new "flaws" I had found. Two more riding mowers (same brand, same price) were rolled out and guess what, they had flaws also. The manager assured me that one of these mowers would be perfect operational by Monday. Called on Monday and was told the mowers hadn't bee looked at yet and the manager was gone for the day. I contacted the manager on Tuesday and he asked me what I wanted to do. I said get a refund. He agreed. (4th trip) I returned to The Home Depot on Tuesday and was issued a refund. This is my first and last experience with Ariens. AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED, NONE OF THIS WAS THE FAULT OF THE HOME DEPOT. IT WAS SHODDY WORKMANSHIP ON THE PART OF ARIENS. THE HOME DEPOT EMPLOYEES WERE SUPERB.

Not perfect, but good
A lot like the Sears Craftsman mowers I used to buy, but has a better turning radius. The speed "4" is too fast for mowing with obstacles, and the speed "3" is too slow. I wish there was a speed around "3 1/2". The mower deck does remain level to the ground, so the mowing is nearly even. The feature of being able to mow in reverse is handy for me. I wish the tires had more tread for gripping, because I often have to rock the mower to get traction. All in all good.

Rider for life
I got a great deal on this tractor and have been very happy with it. Mow in reverse without any other buttons. This products blades don't float like the more expensive mowers but does a great job on level lawns. The little things like the rolled metal edges so you don't have any sharp corners are very nice. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase

Not bad for a thousand
After my 20 y/o 36" Craftsman walk behind finally got on my last nerves breaking drive belts back in spring 2014, I quickly researched lawn tractors and wanted to pay cash w/o breaking the bank and found this machine. It did the job it needed to do all summer long. I replaced the factory blades w/ Arnold's Xtreme blades and installed a grass and leaf collector. This set up got us thru the fall quickly and effieciently picking up and mulching all the leaves. In the winter we installed chains and built a cart to haul firewood to the house. Now it is back to cutting, mulching and collecting grass clippings which are being used as a weed blocker in the garden. The Ariens 17.5 horse tractor is a yard mule. It takes care of our 1+ acre of land and has been fairly reliable. The only two issues I have encountered was one of the spindles had broken and Arien's was difficult to deal with. They said they would send out a new part and i never received it. Luckily i knew the part # and i found it for under $20 on Amazon. They white metal it is made from is very cheaply made. As long as you are careful it will last. If you do break it, buy a second for back up. If you have mechanical skills it is easy to change out. The other problem is the transmission, when you let off the clutch even in first gear the wheels come off the ground and you get whiplash. My transmission does shift smoothly w/o pushing in the clutch. Operator beware, not all transmissions can be shifted like this. The other this machine does not have are mower deck wheels. I figured out the purpose of these after scalping my lawn a few times. Maybe somebody can recommend a kit for this deck. In all this is a good machine that serves its purpose, I hope it lasts at least 10 years.

Tough little tractor
I've had this machine for two years and I'm very happy with it. When I first bought it and had it delivered it wouldn't run normal. They hauled into their shop and found that the carburetor was shot. They replaced it and it has run perfect ever since. I mow a small field with it once a month and it plows right through it with all kinds of power. I also mow multiple yards every week with no problem. The only complaint I have is with the clutch. It is very touchy and if you don't pay attention it can jerk you off the tractor.

Worst mower EVER! Don't waste your money!
Bought this back in the fall and never used it till this spring, I think we mowed once alittle less than 3/4 an acre and then the break downs began. I bought it partly because made in America, sounded good and because of the price. Let me tell you you get what you pay for, buyer beware! This thing is serious junk. besides replacing many belts and deck parts, now the steering is breaking down and although the parts are cheap they sure dont last. Becareful when letting out that clutch, if your not hanging on tight it will throw you, front end comes off the ground everytime.

Probably the only riding mower with these features under $1000
I like all the features and the price. The only thing is I need to un-pack it after it was delivered to my home. It took me several hours to remove the crating wood. My previous riding mower is purchased from Sears and it was ready to use when delivered. I heard a friend purchased a new riding mower from Lowes and he said his is also ready to use when delivered.

    Great Purchase
Purchased this riding mower to replace an older Murray riding mower that I has also purchased from Home Depot . I am extremely satisfied with my new purchase. It is a great mower and was very affordable. Home Depot also had it on sale and I was able to receive a refund of $100.00 because of their sale.

    very happy with this mower
mower is easy to operate and is the perfect size for my yard . took about 3 hours to mow nonstop with push mower , with rider about 1 1/2 hours and is very agile around trees and other obstacles . the fact I can mow in reverse with this mower made it worth the price of purchase .

Engine dead after 2 years 2 months
The first two seasons I thought for the money paid this mower was worth it. Sure it wasn't fancy but it got the job done for my 1 acre lot with some hills. Then just when I was finishing up mowing the lawn for just the 2nd time during the mower's 3rd season, it died. Brought it to the repair shop and they confirmed the Briggs and Stratton engine had quit, it would have been $800 to repair so I am already in the market for a new mower. I took care of this mower too as I did all the recommended maintenance on it from the start. Stay away from Briggs and Stratton engines!

    A little rough
I had a 17.5 HP John Deere that died last year and replaced it with the Ariens that was on sale at HD. The Ariens has good horsepower and goes a lot faster than my old John Deere. I have to say the manual shift is rough. It doesn't shift very well from gear to gear. Switching from 1st to 2nd makes nearly no difference at all and from 3rd to 4th is a dramatic difference in speed. Overall I got what I paid for.

    A Very Good Buy!!!
Purchased June 2015 online. Mower was shipped direct from the factory; not from my local store. Was very pleased to find out that this Ariens mower is built by Husqvarna! Assembly was very simple and quick. Have only used once so far, but I am very satisfied with this mower.

    Very wise purchase.
Being a retired mechanical engineer, I wanted to see what I was buying. I bought the display item. The delivery guys pointed out a missing part. They went back and sent one of Home Depots engineers to my home. All this took place in a matter of hours. Grass cut. Nice ride around the lawn on a nice day. When the job is done, You can buzz your neighbors at 5MPH. I love it.

For what it is, it's a nice tractor.
This is a manual tractor. That means you should only shift in a stopped position. Do not shift on the go. Another belt saver tip is to release clutch when engine is on low speed. I then raise the throttle. Once the rpm is up, I engage the blades. Engaging the blades at low engine speed can almost stall it. You can lower the speed with the blades engaged for hill mowing and tight spaces. I would opt to pick it up at the store next time. It got delivered the last day projected after being given two previous delivery times. I was worried that something had happened to it but it arrived fine and the driver was nice enough to put it in a convenient spot. That soothed a lot of ruffling feathers for me. Notice that I checked average for features and ease of use. This is a basic manual tractor and unless your willing to learn to use it the right way, it might not suit you.

      Herky jerky transmission. Horrible.
It mowed fine. Steering was fine. But that transmission leaves a lot to be desired. I have an old Ariens Emporer that was easier and smoother starting out and moving through the gears. Even starting in first and no matter how easy I let out the clutch it would jerk you. At times I could not even move it through the forward gears to get it to go faster or to slow down without engaging the clutch. The shifter simply would not move and I was afraid if I pushed too hard I would break something. When it wouldn't move, I'd engage the clutch and shift into a higher gear and releasing the clutch would dang near cause whiplash. With maybe an hour of run time I took it back. The Ariens Emporer was a much better mower at 40+ years old. Too bad the engine finally let go and no repair parts available. It was the durability of the old one the steered me to the new one. Bought a Cub Cadet with a hydrostatic transmission and it's a dream in comparison.

Was perfect, but........ should have bought the extended warranty
Well.. this is 2nd mower I have purchased, like in my entire life, so the old one is still running but must be 20yrs old so purchased new, bright shiny one. I should have purchased the extended warranty, because... 2 months out of warranty, the engine made a horrible noise and blew rod bearings, shot oil out the crank all the way out all over the cowling. Now this baby was garage kept, under dust cover, has 12 hrs on it and has been bottle fed good gas, the oil isn't even dirty yet, and kapoweeey... it's toast... will try to find replacement motor. humph......................
