Great paint for small projects around the house. May take a couple of coats to cover something dark or unprimed. Will see how the mildew resistance holds up over time. Easy to use being in a small can.

Does not block tannin bleed through on my cabinets
I bought this primer to use out of an air paint sprayer to refinish my kitchen cabinets. I liked the idea of a water-based stain blocking primer and sealer but it appears that this primer does not do a good job at covering tannin bleed through. TSP, sanding, coat of primer, sanding 2nd, coat of primer, the yellow stains still bleed through. It looks like I'll have to resort to using Oil based primer to cover these tannin stains.

Hi cogito21, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear that you're still seeing yellow stains bleed through after the second coat. I can see why this would be disappointing. However, even though you can see yellow stains, the primer is sealing them in. Your topcoat will cover the yellow stains and should not bleed through the topcoat. I recommend testing your paint over the stains in a small area to ensure it will not bleed through. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance. Our customer care team is happy to help you! -Giovanna Behr
Not a hard paint and will be ugly within a year
I sanded and cleaned my cabinets as instructed. Then I used the Behrs primer along with this cabinet paint. It isn’t a hard paint and dried soft which isn’t good for cleaning. I wish I had never used this it has messed my whole kitchen up. Use kills bonging primer and a Valspar hard latex paint. I did that in my bathroom and it has lasted for years. Do not use this.

Hi Summertime, thanks for your review. I'm sorry to hear you didn't get the durability you expected with our Kitchen, Bath & Trim Primer. While primers provide adhesion and coverage for your topcoat, they aren't designed to be used as paint and don't provide the same type of hard finish. To fix it, I recommend topcoating with our Cabinet, Door & Trim Paint for our most durable finish. Customer satisfaction is very important to us, so feel free to reach out to our Customer Care team directly for further assistance. They are always happy to help. Enjoy the rest of your day. -Christina Behr

      Peeling
It’s peels off I cleaned with tsp and sanded and it still won’t stick if I touch them days after painting in the warm kitchen it still peels right off. Gets stuck right Tony fingers when touching. It’s not sandable to fix the peeling it’s like a rubber glove. Removing it and using the sandable primer behr alkyd enamel under coater.

Worst product experience of my life
Zero adhesion to drywall compound. Ruined days of work. I have never been so angry about a product in my life. The primer was topped with Behr ultra. I’ve taped and painted a couple dozen rooms in my life. I’m not a professional by any means, but I’m careful and take my time. I have never experienced something as catastrophic as this product. My confidence in Behr products is completely destroyed.

Hi Jared, thank you for your review. Sorry to hear that our Kitchen, Bath & Trim Primer didn't adhere to the drywall compound. This is not typical, and I can understand your disappointment. I recommend removing the loose coating, scuff sanding, and cleaning the surface before reapplying the primer & paint. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Cabinet primer
I used this to paint my cabinets. I sanded my cabinets with 120 and then 220. I used a brush for the base cabinets and went over with a foam rollar for no brush marks. The primer works best rolled. I sprayed the doors in the garage but I could see the brown bleed threw. Sticks perfect but is tackey. It's cold outside and brought the panels inside but they are still tackey

This is really good primer. My only complaint (if you want to call it a complaint), just using TSP, or liquid sand paper, is not enough on gloss surfaces. The primer didn't stick to well on the first door. I sanded the primer off and i manually sanded my cabinets with 180 grit. It took a little longer, but it was a much stronger bond here is the before and after pictures.

I was hesitant to buy this and pay extra but it's absolutely worth it! I've painted cabinets before and it's always a chore to make paint stick. I did my usual prep (clean with tsp, rinse thoroughly then degloss) but this time used behr cabinet primer and paint. I let it dry thoroughly and today while reinstalling under sink plumbing (a task that always causes bumps and jarring that inevitably leads to paint scraping then peeling off) it held up perfectly! Even when I bumped it with a pipe wrench! I love this stuff and highly recommend both the cabinet paint and primer!

Worked well for painting over a dark brown (including ceiling & doors) former office to then paint a light teal with a white ceiling for a baby's room. Non-fresh baby. This one was over a year old before he got a room sans desks and file cabinets.

              Produced odd orange-peel texture
I purchased this primer, tinted grey, to prime newly finished drywall. I specifically purchased it due to it being described as self-leveling to ensure a flat surface for the topcoat. The wall had been skim coated (using USG Plus 3), left to dry more than 24-hours, sanded smooth, and well cleaned. After priming, the wall was left with an orange-peel like texture that was far from smooth. Unfortunately, the primer doesn’t sand easily to smooth the finish. It also began to easily peel away from the vinyl corner bead. For existing glossy smooth surfaces this primer may produce a better result, but I believe I would have been better off with a traditional drywall primer or sandable primer.

Hi Adam, thank you for your review, and we're sorry to hear about your experience. As it turns out, this primer doesn't have any self-leveling benefits, and we don't have the benefit listed on the product's label. Either way, the product shouldn't have peeled. To fix the issue, sand off any of the loose coating, clean the surface, and reapply the primer. To help with this, please reach out to us directly; we'd love to help in any way we can. -Edith Behr

Adheres to glossy surfaces? Not sure about that. Started to separate and slide off the stained door and trim after the first coat. Once it became tacky, a second coat was needed to fully cover. You can see in the pic of the door, the difference between the unfinished wood where the door handle was, and the adjacent areas. Used Klean Strip liquid cleaner on the trim pieces prior to priming.

                  Hi Aaron,

Thank you for your review. Multiple coats are sometimes necessary; especially when doing a drastic color change or covering up stains. However, I understand if our All-in-One Primer & Sealer didn't meet your expectations. Please feel free to contact Behr directly for further assistance in this matter.

                  Kindest regards,

                  First time painting cabinets
We did two coats of primer on our cabinets before starting with paint. This paint seemed to cover pretty well! I painted the cases while still up, so ended up doing three coats because wanted to do them thin enough so they wouldn't drip. This kind of paint stayed tacky for a while, and even after it wasn't, it seemed like it might chip. So that's the only reason I gave it 4 stars. We actually left for a bit after finishing, and that helped the paint to fully dry without disturbance. I'm SO happy with the result though!!

                  Overpriced' lousy coverage.
This is suppose to be a premium paint. They charge a premium price at over $25/gallon but when I started painting the baseboard in my newly remodeled kitchen I knew it was going to be a problem, I used right within an hour after buying it where they shook it for me so I know it was well mixed. The ambient temp in my kitchen is 72º F but this paint was thick and drying as I was putting it on. Making it impossible to spread evenly and leaving brush marks. I bought the most expensive brush HD had. It doesn't cover well and leaves plenty of brush marks. My trim looks like PVC with some artificial wood grain after putting 2 coats of this slop on it.

Terrible, watery primer--doesn't cover at all
I'm truly baffled by the positive reviews of this product. I got it because it was no-VOC, low odor--which was important since I'm pregnant and painting my baby's nursery--and we were trying to save money (we go with Benjamin Moore paint but figured we could save a bit on primer). Got this, stirred it thoroughly, and poured it...spilled some of it on the floor because it was completely runny, not creamy at all. I figured maybe I didn't stir it enough, so I tried again. Tried putting it on the walls (drywall, I was covering a dark gray paint) and was shocked at how watery it was--the primer was literally dripped down the walls as I painted. I've primed and painted many times before, so it's not that my brush was overloaded or I was somehow using it incorrectly...it's just a sub-par product. Determined not to have to return it, I figured maybe it would firm up. But after 2 coats, you could still see the dark walls right through it. Terrible product. I returned this to the store and got Benjamin Moore's "Fresh Start" primer for only $13 more a gallon than this Behr garbage. It was creamy and thicker right in the can, and covered much more thickly and efficiently. It's not no-VOC (just low-VOC), but frankly I'd rather deal with that than have a primer that doesn't work. That's the last time I bother with Behr products. There's a reason they're cheaper. I just don't know how anyone could be happy with this primer...I suggest trying the Ben Moore one and seeing how much easier priming can be!

                  Job Done
I've used this primer for many tasks. As a primer, it covers well creating a nice base for your final color. I also have used it as a ceiling paint on textured ceilings (both popcorn and brush swirl). It is thick enough to cover blemishes and repairs yet thin enough to retain the texture and get into the nooks and crannies. The ceiling shown in my photo was painted with the primer using a roller. (The picture does not do the paint justice when compared to seeing it in person).

Good paint but not as good as Paint store Brands
The paint is what I expected not quit as good as high end paints like Benjamin Moore, but we had no big complaints. One thing to know about it is that while it may dry to tough in 24 hours it needs 3 weeks to cure , be careful if you use the space you paint before 3 weeks the paint will scrape right off.

                  Worked well
After moving into my new home, one of the rooms needed to be painted, like, now. The colors were two walls of a dull yet neon pea green and two walls of as-dark-as-possible-before-it-turns-black navy blue. It was also a hi gloss finish. {sigh} So, I thought I would give Behr a shot. The primer worked surprisingly well. It stuck to the existing paint, even tho I was lazy and didn't do an acid wash, while covering the colors. I tried to actually scratch it off after it had dried to no avail. Yay! Two coats would probably make it absolutely white, but that wasn't needed for my purpose. In the pictures, my cut work was not a concern since the new color is a medium blue. I am very happy with the ease of application and the fact that it covered fairly well. Load the brush before applying if you want the white-white, since going over any semi dried paint will cause streaking. I loved that it hardly smelled at all and also dried quickly, which was great!
