Even with a soft yard, you need a lot of weight to make an impression. Ensure you have at least 3 cinder blocks, or bags, etc... Plan on a good hour plus for assembly.

Bought it recently. Have used it hard twice. Solid, plugs nice. Tracks behind riding mower beautifully.. Only negative is the handle to raise plugs, when going over a sidewalk or driveway, not reachable from the seat of my JD D130.

Happy with this tool. Takes a little time to assemble due to individually mounted coring spoons...but the fact is they are able to be exchanged if damaged is a benifit

Unlike some here, I thought the initial setup was average and had no issues. It took a bit over an hour. The aerator is a fair replacement versus a dedicated machine, but not perfect. The issue I have is with getting the tines to push further into my Ohio clay (I had maybe 1/2-3/4 inch depth) after loading 120lbs onto the top. So, it did break the soil surface, but not deep at all. The utility and ease of use was great.

I reseached so many aerators before purchasing the Brinly-Hardy 40" tow behind. My main concern was our rocky soil. I also debating on the size...40" or 48". I'm happy with the 40"; yes it did take longer but that's because we have a large yard but it was so effective aerating the lawn regardless of the rocky soil. I was also worried about storing the larger unit. If you have rocky soil and are concerned this one, you will not be disappointed.

The aerator takes a lot of time to assemble, particularly attaching all of the tines to the axle. However, it worked beautifully when I attached it to my lawn tractor and added the weights. It pulled perfect 3” plugs and worked flawlessly.

Good way to do your own lawn. Works well. Down side , now have to take up space to keep it somewhere.

It is great for flat areas. Hard to get the tight corners.

Needed a good plug aerator and this one is perfect. Well constructed and easy to use. Would recommend this aerator.

After using the Brinly plug aerator my soil is now loosened up and the grass has came back to life. I just attach the plug aerator to my lawn tractor while mowing the lawn.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I live in New England and our winters wreak havoc on lawns. Aeration is a must every single fall. My Brinly was relatively easy to assemble (follow their excellent directions exactly) and took the allotted time. This is the third time I’ve used it, and it exceeds my expectations every time as my experience grows on how best to use it in my yard. It has yet to fail me. The lever which lowers/raises the tray from the ground takes some effort to lock in place. However, you can be sure it is never going to slip or fail. It is that secure. The relative limited distance of the tow point makes for a tight turning machine and very predictable. Unlike other similar products made by other manufacturers, the spikes are NOT perilously sharpened. These spikes are safe to touch, easy to handle, and difficult to foul. You just have to water your lawn well the day before you plan to aerate the lawn. It works just as advertised and I most strongly recommend it to your attention. We have two other Brinley products, a spreader and a thatcher. Both have the same level of quality, the same durability, as well as the same two qualities that were the final differentiator in me purchasing them from the competition: Quality and Made In America.

I used this to do fall yard maintenance. I had never aerated before and didn't know what to expect. It seemed to work well and I was pleased with the finished job. I did use about 120 lbs of weight on it with no issues. I do wish there was a way to control the plug depth with the wheel height. In other words, the wheels would control the depth to 3" as opposed to adjusting weight amounts. My left wheel appears to be slightly skewed, but I think I can fix that. Overall, I'm pleased.

The instructions are a little confusing. Someone should rewrite them to be easier to assemble the aerator.

All parts for assembly were in box. EXCELLENT instructions for an easy assembly. I pull it with a zero turn mower with no problem. Does a great job.

Great little plug aerator. Use a drum full of water in the weight rack or else it will not penetrate the ground at all. Used it twice on lawn which hasn't been done in at least 10 years, if not ever. Much cheaper than paying someone to come and do it. Buy once and have it for ? Hopefully a few years.

I got this American made plug aerator after reading the horrible reviews on the most popular Chinese made ones. It is very solid with excellent welds, which is what seems to fail most often in the non-American made one. I’ve used this on two lawns and am extremely satisfied with it.
