Latex Window Glazing has more in common with an acrylic-latex (water-based) caulking compound than a traditional oil-based glazing putty such as DAP ‘33’ Glazing. For experienced users of glazing compounds, the heavier bodied oil-based formula is typically preferred. Likewise, DAP ‘33’ Glazing is better suited for deeper/wider glazing applications. For inexperienced users, the softer latex formula, which is applied by way of a standard caulking gun, cleans up with water and can be painted directly with acrylic-latex (water-based) paint is typically preferred. DAP Latex Window Glazing is furnished with a "chisel point" application nozzle to aid in proper placement of the glazing compound (without the need for additional tooling/smoothing). This specialty nozzle is only used with this specific product. Biological contamination (mold/mildew) is possible in almost any water-based product, given certain factors, including environmental exposure. While DAP Latex Window Glazing does not require paint to be applied for performance, the application of a high-quality paint can improve its overall performance, as the paint will offer additional protection to the applied sealant.
