Thank you for posting your feedback regarding DAP PATCH-N-PAINT Lightweight Spackling. This product is designed and marketed for minor cosmetic/surface repairs, such as dents/dings in wallboard (not large repairs). These types of small repairs generally do not require significant sanding. As indicated on the product package label and supporting product literature: "PATCH-N-PAINT may be painted within minutes with a latex paint. Please follow paint manufacturer’s instructions for application. If sanding is desired, or if an oil-based paint is to be used, allow to dry thoroughly, approximately 24 hours, longer dry time may be required in cooler and/or more humid condition or where deep repairs have been made." Based on your commentary indicting: “It dries with a rubbery feel and is not easy to sand down.” Would appear to signal that the product was not yet fully dry when sanding was attempted. With respect to your commentary indicating: “Applied 2 coats of eggshell paint and we are STILL able to see all the places we patched up (many) because they look flat in sheen in contrast to the eggshell.” While not required by DAP for compatibility purposes, most paint manufacturers will recommend or require the use of a primer (on bare surfaces such as new drywall and patching compounds), prior to the application of their topcoat paint finishes to limit a shift in desired level of sheet. If you are dissatisfied with your purchase, the product may be returned to the point of purchase or returned directly to DAP for a refund of your purchase price. Instructions for this process can be found on the product package.
