I used this product to fill in my screen heads on a Cornhole game I made with my son. It applies easily enough, let it dry then sand for a smoother look then finish it with your choice

Completely useless.
This product is completely useless from a professional point of view. I will never have 36 hours to wait for something to dry. Why even make this?

Thank you for posting your feedback. DAP Plastic Wood-X is an acrylic-latex (water-based) formula; accordingly, the sole drying mechanism is the evaporation of water. Dry time can be significantly impacted by cool or humid application conditions or by thick (deep) applications of the patch. As indicated on the product package label as well as supporting product literature: "For larger and deeper holes, apply thin layers to build up thick sections. Allow wood filler to dry before applying next layer. Allow to dry thoroughly before sanding: approximately 3 to 6 hours for shallow fills up to 1/8” and 36 hours for deeper fills 1/4” and over. DAP Plastic Wood-X and similar DAP wood fillers are specifically designed and recommended for use on minor/cosmetic repairs. DAP does not recommend this product or other similar wood filler products we offer for large format repair applications. For these types of repairs, the use of two component wood repair epoxies and their accessory primers would be recommended. Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477. DAP

    Good but oricey!
It takes longer to dry than I had hoped. It sands well and is more durable than the less expensive wood fillers. I don’t think it is a great value for the price though.

    Easy to work with
I really like how easy it is to work with DAP Plastic Wood-X. I trowel it on without worrying too much about getting a smooth surface because it's easy to sand after it cures. Instead I just ensure I get a good fill. The color changing feature makes it easy to know when it's time to sand. I have always covered the Plastic Wood-X with paint or fiberglass so I can't speak to how well it would stain and blend with a natural wood finish but it covers and holds up well with paint or fiberglass. It is easy to shape or clean up with water before it cures.

Very easy to work with, fast drying and paintable. Did the trick to fill in and cover the damage to door jam that our dog chewed pretty severely.

This product did fill the holes in my cedar post but did not match the stain color. I was told I could stain over it and it looks awful. I will need to replace the entire cedar board. I am dissatisfied with being told this product was going to work.

Thank you for posting your feedback on DAP Plastic Wood-X All-Purpose Wood Filler. DAP Plastic Wood (all versions) are designed and tested for both sandability as well as stain and paint/coating performance. Regarding your commentary indicating: “...did not match the stain color. I was told I could stain over it and it looks awful.”, taken from the package label and supporting product literature: "if staining, test wood filler with desired stain on scrap wood before filling to ensure desired stain color." and "If wood is to be stained, stain before filling with wood filler. Then use stain to develop desired final finish.” Because you did not provide any details regarding your attempted application/finishing process, it is difficult to provide you with a more specific response or corrective guidance in this format. I wish I had known about this stuff sooner.
I like that, when applied, the product is pink and changes color to tan when dry. Eliminates any guesses on when you can start working the product. It also takes a stain well and that makes it easy to match coloring on repairs.

Dap vs bondo on my deck
Bought a house with a 30 year old deck which the previous owners pressure washed way too often and destroyed. It's splintered and feathered so badly that I couldn't sand it without wood sticking between the orbital pads. Decided to put wood filler in and after a lot of research I bought this dap all purpose filler and bondo wood filler. Going to list my pros and cons for this filler. Pro: - Doesn't have a strong smell -It doesn't set as fast as the bondo. For me this was a plus because I had time to get into a lot of cracks before it became clumpy. I'm probably a bit crazy for doing this but I used an entire container for 2 planks of wood. The outcome looked nice though. You do have to look at the weather and make sure it won't rain for at least 24 hours before you can seal to ensure it's completely dry if the cracks are deep. - it was easy to sand. Cons - it didn't take the stain on our sealer well BUT I'm OK with that. Since I'm using it for my entire deck, I think it'll still flow nicely. - it does take awhile for me to trust its completely dry so I tend not to sand and seal until the next day. It can be inconvenient time wise - I try to use up the entire container within an hour otherwise the contents in the container start to dry. Even though I try to keep the lid on while I'm working, it's just naturally going to start drying each time I open the lid to apply. So by the time I get down to the last bits of filler, it's a little harder to use. Overall, I liked it better than the bondo. Bondo is better if you want to get a project done fast. I found this wood filler time consuming but allowed me to do a better job which is what I exactly what I wanted.

I have been making bird houses for my daughter and son in law for about 12 years and I use PlasticWoodx to put a roof and grass on the bird houses. These bird houses are not for the birds to get into but they are taken to some places that the elderly people stay and they love them, PlasticWoodx is the best in the world and so is Home Depot,

Much more durable than I thought. Extremely easy to sand (with 150 grit). Shrink is very minor. The DryDex feature is nice to have. It does dry very fast. In fact that is my only "complaint". The tub gets a ring of dried filler in just a few minutes. I realized I needed to scoop out a mound of filler and wipe that on a 4" putty knife and apply with a 1" putty knife. That way I could close the tub and stop the filler from drying out. This is a great product and I highly recommend it!

This ruined my outdoor furniture project. Using pressure treated lumber I built a sofa, loveseat and two tables. Since there were the small screw holes and some other small damage places I thought I would use this "stainable" plastic wood filler before I used the Ready Seal stain that I had used before on my pressure treated fence that looks beautiful. The stain went on perfectly on the wood but the wood filler did not accept the stain At All and is horribly visible. I will now have to either try Kilz primer and paint it rather than stain as I intended or toss my entire project to the curb and start over.

I am making a bed with nearly 50 exposed boards total, needless to say there were a few gaps/cracks that had to be filled. This product applies easily, dries quickly , sands down smoothly and stains well. With the color changing formula it is also something you can just apply and come back and check in on quickly, you will know when it is dry.

I had two items that needed remedies. Outside board trim above my garage that was severely weathered with large cracks and a window sill in the garage that (long gone) termites had ravaged with deep gouges. I filled in both sucessfully with great results. I don't have a picture of the window sill, as after product dried I covered with molding for a more finished look. But you can see the outside board in attached pictures.

Very unhappy with this product! I used on a wooden glider. I sanded down to bare wood, wiped down the surfaces, used my air compressor to blowout the weathered cracks, and holes twice to make sure all was clean. Filled the cracks, I let the filler dry overnight, sanded smooth, wiped down with a tack cloth. I then applied two light coats of Behr deck stain, and sealer. Dried for three days before setting outside. It looked great for a week, then I noticed the wood filler started to swell, and came through the finish. See the added pictures.

Was easier to use than bondo and wall repair. Got good and hard but gave me time to work with it. Love how it goes on pink and dried natural wood color. Bondo does dry faster but gives you only moments to work with it.

The PlasticWood-X is excellent and I use lots of it when working on bird houses and like items.

Dap's plastic latex wood filler, was what I needed to make the repairs to some of our older wood patio furniture. The bottom of the legs had scraps and started pitting and it was time for us to repaint them. I decided to fill the holes of all the legs . Gave it a day to dry good sanded then repainted . Our chairs look like new. Great stuff easy to use. I would buy this product again and would recommend.

This Dap plastic wood X filler kit is all that is needed to fill in holes. Filling in nail holes is not my favorite pastime. It is just a chore that needs to be done to finish up a job. It comes with a spatula and sanding block so no need to buy a putty knife and sand paper. It went on very easily. It is a much smoother consistency than another one that I have used. This one goes on pink, then dries to a cream color to show when it is dry. Then it can be sanded smooth. This can be used to fill in any cracks in wood or where moulding or trim needs to be filled. It can be stained or painted and is easily cleaned up with a wet rag. After installing new laminate flooring, this plastic wood came in handy for the new trim.
