I chose this 5/8” bit because it was the cheapest option and I’m generally pleased with DeWalt bits; however, be sure to consider this: It’s a BIG shank! The mistake I made was not checking the max of my drill chucks before purchasing it. The shaft fits in my 12” drill press and handheld drills if the chucks are maxed out, but doesn’t fit in my cheater Drillmate rig. Unlike my other DeWalt bits, there are no flat spots along the shaft for stronger grab, but it held up ok with steel pipe and EMT!

Can't punch 1/4 steel plate (not hardened)
I don't know if they picked the right bit for my pickup order, but my bit is all black. It doesn't cut anything. The best it did was start a hole in a 1/4 steel plate (not hardended/cold rolled/stainless). I even punched it like BUTTER with a titanium coated Ryobi 3/8th bit. This guy does nothing but tries to kill my drill. 40v Ryobi battery dead after trying to punch one hole, and IT NEVER MADE IT THROUGH THE SECOND PLATE. Giant piece of trash. I even tried to flip it over and seeing if it could punch through coming from the other side, yeah nope.

Worked great, on the expensive side though. Needed to drill out a handful of 5/8" diameter holes to install a 2" receiver onto the car. If possible use a large drill with a handle because this bit can torque up quite a bit drilling through metal. Wear your safety glasses because you never know.

One star for false/misleading advertising. To be clear, the product shown in the picture is not what is shown on the specifications and it is not available in the store. Look closely at the picture (zoom in) and the packaging says it is a 3/4" bit with a 3/8" shank. That's false. The only product available under this SKU is a 3/4" bit with a 1/2" shank. That's incredibly misleading because this product regularly comes up in Google searches for 3/4" bit with a 3/8" shank. I made a trip to Home Depot (and others) to learn this the hard way. However, if your drill or drill press can take a 1/2" shank, then this bit does a fair job of cutting through soft steel. It drifts without firm pressure, but will bind and/or break with too much pressure at two fast a drilling speed. Cutting lubricant is a big help. I'd give it three or four stars in this regard, but buyer beware.

I made a donut wall for my daughter's upcoming wedding. I had to have perfect holes for nearly 100 dowels, which would be used to hold the donuts. No wedding cake? Millennial thinking! The final result is really great.

Smooth, sharp action
I used this bit to drill through the metal ash plan in my fireplace. The pan is probably 1/8" thick and the drill carved through it in seconds without sliding around and causing scratch damage.

It’s a drill bit. It was sharp and so far has performed well. But I rarely use bits this large.

We're sorry to hear the bit was larger than the drills chuck. Please be advised this model has a Shank Diameter 1/2 in- compatible with a 1/2 in chuck or larger.
