This a very good little inexpensive lamp timer. The people that rate it poorly don't know anything about wiring and have no business installing one in the first place. The timer needs power to run - so it has to be wired to your circuit line - then the black lead to your load. The people having problems don't even know what their wires do. If you need an electrician then hire one. Or ask your DIY neighbor. :)

      JUNK! Timer turns on every time but never turns off. If it is turned manually, it will turn on and off based on the adjustment of the on-off pins. When relying upon the timer to turn it off automatically, it does not do so. The switch plate cover also interferes with timer switch. I had to cut back the switch plate to clear it. It also does not have a manual "on" switch. There's an "off" and "auto" but the center position does nothing. Home Depot needs to discontinue this item based upon the experiences of consumers. It is of extremely poor quality.

        The design works for me and the programming intuitive but small font. The first one I purchased had a problem with the clock. If I rotated the clock dial into the raised “on” section I set, the electrical device I had connected came on. The duration was exactly the time I had programmed but as soon it the switched to “off” the clock stopped. This renders the unit useless. Sadly, I thought my setup/wiring caused the problem so I convinced myself it was me and bought another timer. Ugghhh; same exact issue. Either I’m doing something wrong or these timers are faulty out of the box. Help.

          nice idea bad unit
          Ok i went aginst other reviews and bought one i purchust around 10am and by 8pm it broke it turned on at the time i set it to and 45 min later shut off

Adjusting the time of day setting is also easy, but requires some good lighting to see the time pointer position and direction of rotation arrow. NOTE: the OFF - TIMER slider switch does not have a center override position to force the circuit on; you can only do that by rotating the time dial. I took of one star for this and another for the lightweight (but adequate) construction.

              Switch stopped working after 2 days of use. Wall plate will not fit behind dial. i used with and with out wall plate. Timer does not move. I used for simple holiday lights. Its a shame the quality of depot products has declined so rapidly. Do not buy its a waste of your time and money. Go to a local electrical supply store you will spend $3-7 more but have a quality product

                Dont buy this product. We lost our whole home in Hurricane Irma. Had this timer installed to replace another one that was there before. It only worked correctly ONE TIME. Am tired of trying all the "help" suggestions from the company, none of them work. Tightening the middle screw, untightening the middle screw, checking the wires, blah, blah, blah. Now I am going to have to pay someone to un install it and I am trying to rebuild my home and dont need extra expenses.

                  I tried three of this switch and all three had the same problem, There is a small rocker arm that turns the light on/or off at the preset time that you set. The problem I had with all three was when the timer pushed the switch back to turn the lights on it would hang up so when the timer was telling it to turn the lights off it would stick and not turn them off. I even tried moving the rocker arm with the dial removed and found that the same thing happened. There is a design problem with the switch. I finally installed a digital timer and it works great.                   I bought a pair of these at least 3 years ago to turn our front and back porch lights on at night. Some of the reviews made me skeptical, but the switches have worked fine this whole time. It would be nice if there was a manual on switch as others said...but in the rare case it is needed I just turn the dial to a time when they are set to "on," and then turn it back when done. I first used these with cfl bulbs, but have since switched to led. The improved efficiency of the led means I don't bother trying to make the times precise for on and off. I have gotten my value out of them, nice to know the lights will turn on even if we are not home. Much easier to deal with than digital ones etc.
