[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using Dremel rotary tools for a few years now, but I haven't done much in the way of carving until recently. I found this little wooden box and thought it would be a good inexpensive piece to practice on. I started carving my design using this Dremel 194HP carving bit and it has made the process surprisingly simple. Granted, my artistic skills could be a little better but as for the process of carving out even the smallest details, so far this bit has made easy work of it. The package says that it can be ran at up to 35,000 RPM, but I haven't found it necessary to run it any faster than around 15,000 and it has cut right through the wood. All in all I would say this is a great little bit.

I use the 194HP Carving Bits while carving a wood spirit. I used my Dremel Tool and Dremel Flex Shaft and other Dremel bits to carve the basic shape of the wood spirit face. Then used a 194HP bit to add the detailed beard hairs. I held the bit on a 45 degree angle and made many small sweeping cuts. This gave my carving realistic looking hairs. I received the 194HP Dremel carving bit yesterday, Thursday the 13th of May. Today, Friday the 14th in one and one half hours I took a bare cedar limb and carved a wood spirit. I cannot believe the speed this bit removed wood. I am left handed and all Dremels like my 4300 are for right handed people but this bit feels great in my handed. I LOVE THIS 194HP bit. I ran it at 32,000 runs taking it out for a spin. I turned it down to 18,000 rpms and it was just as fast at removing woods and shaping it was like nothing I have witnessed. The 194HP will shape wood and do things so fast I am still amazed. Thank you so much Dremel for letting me participate in such a great program.

The Dremel High Performance Speed Cutter works as advertised. My Dremel is one of the handiest tools I own and I have many different bits I se for various projects. I know many people use them for carving wood, but I’ve also used them for glass, plastics, and metals. I recently had a small project that had some very hard plastic parts. One of them was fitting properly, so having recently received this bit, I put it to work. Within minutes I was able to easily trim the piece I was working on with ease and precision. After using the Dremel High Performance High Speed cutter on two different woods and carving projects, it remained sharp as new and is ready to tackle more. However, like any similar bit, it leaves quite a bit of fuzz in basswood, but can be cleaned up easily by tilting the bit or using sand paper. These work really well for smaller projects, but I wouldn’t suggest trying to hog off a lot of wood on a larger carving. I was able to clean up and cut custom grooves in the back of a turkey plaque with ease and I feel these bits are a step up from Dremel’s others and are worth adding to your arsenal. I used the Dremel High Performance 194 High Speed Cutter with both the Dremel Rotary Tool and the Rotary Tool attached to Dremels Plunge Router to attempt a more intricate cut into wood. In both instances I wanted to see if 194 Cutter bit into the wood I used and in both soft and hard woods, it performed smoothly with both the Dremel Rotary Tool and used with the Dremel Plunge Router. I use the Dremel 4486 Keyless Chuck with my Rotary Tool unless using Dremel's Plunge Router and the majority of my 28 years using every type of Dremel Rotary Tool has involved working with wood. I needed a wood carving project to check out the new Max Life, titanium coated high speed 1/8 inch cutter. I needed project not too complex. My wife suggested that I duplicate a doll’s leg for her. One leg was missing from and old wooden carved doll she found at a flea market. I had the appropriate sized dowels on hand plus the Dremel 192 cutter heads, so I got on with the project! Used the cutter head to notch out and rough out the jointed legs. Also used the Max Life metal cutting wheel to rough out the shoe! The 192 handled the delicate cutting well. These high speed carving bits are great for carving detail as well as general use. I have found that dremel carving bits as well as many other dremel bit types work extremely well with there flex shaft attachment and with it it’s like being able to freehand draw detail in to what ever material your working with. I love these carving bits I use them often and they have many shapes styles and sizes. Dremel has provided me this product in exchange for an honest review.

I think the product worked great. Although I used it on acrylic glass. First one got dull quick and second I burned up and gummed it up. Both bits worked for what I needed and accomplished the task I bought them for. I may have abused them, but they worked great. Would buy again if I need them.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Much to my surprise, this bit tore through everything I had. Carbon fiber, micarta, epoxy resin, G-10, wood, hard wood, aluminum honeycomb sheets, and some nasty polyurethane my brother-in/law dumped off on me, yet made me feel obligated to use (and appreciate) them. So I did. And they where awesome.

I love the versatility of this small new addition to my work shop. There are still many things to learn, but it made parts of a larger project very easy to do. I recommend this product. And in addition to this recommendation, I suggest that unless you really need the cordless option, that you buy the corded one. Really read up on the cordless battery issues before buying. I bought the cordless before I read up, and ended up trading it out for a corded one before I broke into the package.

I bought two bits and ended up using only one. It stayed sharp throughout my project for several hours.

Nice little cutter for the money

These bits were exactly what I needed. With the heat and humidity my doors moved around and it was hard to lock them. I used this bit to file away some of the metal in the door jam plate and now all my door lock with ease.
