Cleaner Shop
Glad I bought this. It was more expensive than homebuilt designs, but considering parts and labor involved in those, this is a good value. It works VERY WELL and is compact. I built an overhead placement similar to many others. The Dustopper folks were very helpful when I ordered a 90 degree elbow and it got delayed in the mail. I like that it is made in the USA. Highly recommend this product.

Great dust separator for the small workshop
I have two of these that I have been using for quite a while. One on a fixed system piped to various machines and a floor sweeper where I can sweep a large area of my shop easily. I also have a portable one on a cart since I do woodworking outside and need mobility, plus I work at other people's houses and it's nice and compact. Works great even with the small vacuum I'm using with it. I really like the low profile of it. I ordered extra 90 degree fittings from Dustopper since they seem to be the only available that work for what I needed.

Works as intended. Depending on your set up you may want an additional elbow

The Dustopper is the quickest route to collecting dust before it hits your vacuum. I only need it for the occasional sandblasting or table sawing. I built the PVC pipe rack shown on the box (there is also a You Tube Video showing how its done). Makes a good combination and it comes with a short vacuum hose.

Useless, Over Priced, Poor Design DO NOT BUY
Stopped virtually none of the dust from getting to the shop vac. Other attachments costs half this much use water by place the inlet hose under water. The vacuum hose is on top. The vacuum in the bucket draws the inlet air through the water, water traps the dust with no loss of suction power. Thought this did the same. It does not. By contrast this is terrible. It has some weird baffle inside the dome cap which does nothing. It cuts the suction power of the vacuum substantially. The little dust it does collect ends up stuck at the inlet. You must remove the inlet hose while it running so the trapped dust is sucked into the bucket. If you shut the vac off, the dust falls on the floor. Total sham, waste of money. Bought this Sunday 11/29/2020, returning it 11/30/2020. Product claims it stops 99% of the dust from getting to the shop vac. Does the attached PIC look like only 1% of the dust got through to the shop vac?

Just add a small shopvac and 5 gallon bucket and you have a dedicated dust collection for your miter saw!
I got tired of having to drag around and hook up a shopvac to my miter saw which I use frequently for my woodworking hobby. After I built a new cart for my miter saw I invested in this Dustopper and a small 4 gallon Ridgid shop vac with 5HP, along with a power switch that turns the vacuum on when the saw is running and off after 10 seconds after the saw stops. This Dustopper is easy to install, simply snap it onto the top of a 5 gallon bucket, unlike the other product option where you have to cut holes into the bucket lid and mount it, this one also includes a short hose which worked great for hooking directly to the vacuum so I could use the longer vacuum hose to run from the Dustopper to the miter saw. After some cutting I checked the bucket and the shop vac and all the saw dust was in the bucket, none made it to the vacuum.

            Works, but it is fragile.
I've had this item in my shop for more than a year. It has worked wonderfully with my shop vac for dust collection. It's a little bit fussy to use as the hoses make the bucket fall over when you move it around due to the bucket and topper being so light. Overall I would definitely recommend this for garage/weekend woodworkers. BE CAREFUL with it as I was moving it today and it fell from a height of about two feet, landed on its top and broke. The plastic is MUCH more brittle than plastic used to make a typical 5 gallon bucket. At $45 each this is a fairly spendy lesson in dustopper durability.

This is a super handy device. I had to cut some Styrofoam, and I hate it if your knife is not really sharp, you end up with a lot of those little Styrofoam balls all over your shop. I was wondering if they would end up in the bucket, or end up clogging my vacuum's filter. GUESS WHAT! They ended up in the bucket with all the other sawdust and debris. I've read complaints that, because it's so lightweight, it's easy for the bucket to tip over, so I put my vacuum and my bucket with the Dustopper on the bottom shelf of a rolling stainless steel rack on wheels. I cut the hose (between the suction of the vacuum and the outlet of the Dustopper) shorter so they would sit better on the shelf together. I haven't ventured into multiple hose connections, blast gates and all that - right now, I just plug my radial arm saw's dust hose in, or plug my shop hose into the Dustopper's suction port, and things are working out just fine. I'll add multiple connections later. I actually used this combo to vacuum all the sawdust out of the tub under my table saw - quite a bit of sawdust, along with some of that very fine sawdust from cutting cheap paneling. It ALL ended up in the bucket, and my vacuum's tank was empty! The only reason I didn't give it more stars for value and quality is because it seems a bit cheap on plastic for the price. Otherwise - I think this is going to be a great asset.

                One piece Dustopper
Tom Huntley created this shop vac unit 4years ago and I just had to make it. It works great and is used daily for picking up dust from planer to fine MDF. I have used it for 2yrs.

                  Awesome dust collector!
Bought a few weeks ago after replacing my shop vac filter yet again. My 5 gallon bucket is 4 inches from completely full of sawdust. As you see from the photo, my vac has barely anything in it and my filter is spotless. Wish I had gotten one of these years ago!

Came with the items I needed to create a mobile dust management system at a very reasonable price. Plus it's lower profile provides a more stable platform than the conical shaped competitors. Works perfectly in separating the dust from going into the shopvac and is saving me so much on the filters for my vacuum. Definitely exceeds my expectations! From an idea I found online, I used 1.5" PVC (Sched40, I think) pipe to create a frame to hold the 5 gallon bucket which would fit the legs on my Rigid 6 gallon shopvac. From there I cut a hole to fit the 5 gallon bucket into a 1/4" piece of plywood (and then added notches to hold accessories and the power cord) so that the whole unit moves as one seamlessly. Of course, the PVC pipe was only about $5 but the 4 3-Way connectors probably cost about $4 each and the plywood was a scrap piece I had lying around plus a couple of screws to hold the board to the PVC pipe. It is great to be able to move the unit as one!

                    Don't waste your $
I used this "Dustopper" to cut a sheet of 3/4 plywood with my table saw and band saw. I then cut a log with a chain saw and sucked that up. I waited to the end of these projects to give the item a fair review. My shop vac had 3" of saw dust in it and my filter is so full it's shot. Yes, the 5 gallon pale is full. Overall, I say don't waste your $. I suppose I should have checked it more often in case that's just what happens when the pale gets a couple inches from full, but somehow, I doubt it. It could definitely use a longer hose as well. It keeps tipping over and I don't have the space to build it into a rolling unit. If you're like me and it's your first one, it'll do as long as you check it after each use. If you've got the money, get something of better quality.

                      Works Great
The reason I bought a shop vac is a bit strange. My yard was over run with a weed called Burr medic. I decided the best way to get rid of them was to suck up all the burrs that contain seeds. I bought this attachment to save the shop vac filter as I was sucking up dirt along with the burrs. I am very happy with the results. Most everything ended up in the bucket and not the shop vac. Definitely saves you money on needing to buy filters.

Works very well, but my gosh, is it overpriced!
My gosh, this is expensive! $50 for a few bits of plastic - and not even enough of those. All the images showing this located on top of a shop vac are great, but you need extra tubing and right-angles at even more cost. There's no way to avoid the cost if you want one, but there is another issue that can be avoided. It's always falling over. You NEED to attach it to the the shopvac somehow, otherwise you're trailing destruction all around the shop. My solution (given that I wasn't going to pay extra), was to use a sheet of plywood with small sides, and 1" castors at each corner. The shopvac sits on the plywood. I then fix a second 5 gallon bucket to the plywood securely, and place the dustopper in that bucket. Mobile, very stable, and you can disassemble it in minutes for emptying or using elsewhere. Does the device work? Mainly, yes. It's great with dust, and I'd say it lives up to it's 99% efficiency claim. It can get clogged by larger items (screws, pens, paper towels). When that happens, a strong vacuum can collapse the bucket (but not with my two-bucket solution above). It's easy to clean out, and you soon learn what it's not good at picking up.

Works great. No dust in my shop vac. After a few projects I have a convenient bucket full of dust. Looks great. I like the low profile so it fits easily in my tiny shop. With the right angle connector, you can put it on a bucket right next to your shop vac.

                          Couldn't ask for more!
I have been using this produce for about a year and I’m totally satisfied. Does exactly what it’s supposed to do which to me means keeps dust out of the vacuum and the vacuum filter. Almost all the dust is captured in the Homer Bucket and very little gets through to the vacuum. I have not noticed any loss of suction from my vacuum. The lid seals well to the bucket. I ordered two extra fittings directly from the manufacture and the customer service and shipping was outstanding

Mannnnn I cannot day enough great things about the “Dustopper”. If you’ve ever ground down the tile leftovers before, you know what it’s like to sell your soul for the results you want. I used a universal shroud on the grinder and the “Dustopper” between that and the 5 or 6 hp wet dry vac. Before using, the filter would clog constantly, now I finished the job and I didn’t even have to clean my glasses on this one! I’ve been redeemed in more ways than one!!

I have the dustopper connected between my DeWalt table saw and my Rigid vacuum. The combination really keeps the dust and debris under control in my shop. It is easy to disconnect from the saw and connect to my planer or router table. I was impressed how well this dustopper works. Really saves the filter on the vacuum and easy to empty the wood shavings to add to compost pile.

Does the job! Not pleased with quality inspection.
The dust stopper does the job well. My only complaint is that it is evident that the part in the box was a quality boundary sample. A visual aid to judge the level of a defect to determine shipping quality. Being a engineering manager for a luxury car manufacturer I understand shipping standards but would never allowed this product reach the customer marked up as mine is. It’s obvious there was a problem with the injection or blow Molding process leaving a thin wall which may fail early in its life expectancy. This may be the reason some reviews stated theirs broke rather quickly.

This simple product works wonderful. I vacuumed a very dirty shop with my new Rigid 16 gallon 6.5 hp connected to the Dustopper. I was surprised how much debris and dust were trapped in the 5 gallon bucket and not in my shop vac, which only had a very small amount of dust in it. I also use this combination as a duct collector for my table saw, router table, jointer and planer. Works great.

I admit I was skeptical about buying this Dustopper. I really wasn't expecting much, however I figured that since they had it in stock at my store and I was getting tired of spending almost $20 a piece for filters for my shop vac that it was worth a shot! I have to say I was not only impressed, but highly amazed at how well this worked! As I am an amateur wood worker, I have not gotten around to hooking my dust collector up to my table saw, so there was a large and extremely various assortment of sawdust piled up underneath it. I figured that this would be a great test to see whether or not I had wasted my money on this. I cleaned out my shop vac, put on the new filter and hooked up the Dustopper. After vacuuming up the entire pile under the saw, I removed the lid on the Dustopper to see the bucket almost 3/4 full. Then I figured I would open the Shop vac and see quite a bit of material in it as well. To my surprise the Shop Vac and the new filter were completely clean! I have attached pics to show you what I saw! I would absolutely recommend purchasing this, it will quickly pay for itself in not buying replacement filters!

I've been looking for a dust collection set up for my shop for a while and was choosing between the Dustopper and the taller cone type of separator (Dust Deputy). Mostly due to the lower profile for my personal shop set up, I decided to try the Dustopper. So far, I'm glad I did. I also upgraded my shop vac to the Rigid 12 gal 5 HP also from HD. These two were meant for each other. Set up was a breeze for the Dustopper, you literally just pop the top onto a 5 gal bucket and slide on the hoses and you're done. For me, when I ran it the 1st time it separated all the saw dust and kept it out of the shop vac tank. I removed the shop vac lid and looked inside the only thing in it was the super duper fine dust along with inside wall and no debris on the bottom. Good enough for me!!

This separator work better than I could ever imagined. I'm using it in small woodshop I got it hooked up to a rigid wall mount Shop Vac. Fun for awhile
I was happy with my Dustopper at first. The convenience of emptying a five gallon bucket rather than opening up my shop vac after each cleaning seemed to outweigh the clumsiness of having two items to drag around. After less than a year of use mine bit the dust — a short fall onto a concrete garage floor was all it took to break the cheap plastic and render the Dustopper useless. Duct tape, perhaps? No — it goes in the trash. Lesson learned. Money wasted. The cost of one of these will almost get you a new shop vac. It’s supposed to save you from replacing filters — buy two or three filters instead. Buy hoses. Buy a broom. All of those things will last longer!

Short story: Love it. Works great. Long story: My end-of-winter project is to clean the basement, and to point the interior of our home’s fieldstone foundation. This results in loads of old mortar pieces and lots of dirt and dust. I purchased the Dustopper to avoid purchasing multiple Shop Vac collection bags. The Dustopper easily attached to my 6.5 HP, 2.5 in. Shop Vac, without needing any special adapters. Using a Homer Depot 5-gallon bucket to collect the debris, the Dustopper snaps on and off easily. I have used the Dustopper for a couple of weeks, and it works great. I vacuumed the basement floor and removed some old mortar. The bucket was half-full, with a mix of coal dust, sand, dust, mortar, old nails and screws, etc. The Shop Vac had minimal debris in the collection bag. Compared to other brands: It is less expensive No need to purchase any special adapters It has a low profile, so there is less chance of the collection bucket tipping over. Suggestions for the user: I use a collection bag that is rated for drywall dust in my Shop Vac. Some very fine dust may pass through the Dustopper. If you look in the photo, the collection bucket sits in a white bucket. The white bucket has a 15 lb. weight in the bottom, to help stabilize the collection bucket.
