I am not Mr Outdoorsman. I’m more of a Prius kinda guy. We took down some trees and this splits even two foot wide logs. I use a wimpy 6lb sledge (aka a Prius sledge hammer) and it works really well. Very happy

Not good for hardwoods. Very difficult to get started into the wood then pops out often. I wouldn't waste time on this one, at least for hardwoods. Maybe it would work better in softwoods.

Came sharp and splits well with reasonable force from my 8lb maul.

OK. Needed to sharpen mine, thinning the tip, out of the box, in order to get them to “start”. Competitive brand of 4 lb. Twisted Wedge by GroundWorks were superior and relegated the Estwings to secondary duty.

Splits very nicely. Separate evenly and don’t get stuck easily. I’ve tried a “four way” splitter with a pointer end and this blows that it off the water. I’m just not sure why they painted the striking end since the paint chips off upon first hit.

Sweet … actually saves on maul swings!

Pros: -functions great splitting those stubborn wood rounds (have split up to 25-27" rounds so far) -Durable -neat flail end helps with extra push to separate the pieces Cons: -while blue paint looks neat - it comes off onto the wood rather quickly -feels a bit light (e.g. does not appear to have the density where it matters the most) -Does not feel sharp initially (likely will need sharpening early in its life) Overall functions as intended to help split those stubborn log rounds; I utilize a combination of an axe (split smaller portions) and wedge/sledge hammer combo (stubborn splits or bigger rounds). Wish it had a bit heavier/more efficiency with sharpness. Clearly a durable wedge that takes a beating however may need sharpening earlier (as expecting with most wood splitting tools which need TLC/sharpening often and sometimes even after purchasing).

My son and I have split most of a tree using this to get through 24-30" diameter pieces. We try a few times with the maul and if it doesn't do it, he says, "let's do the wedge". Much better success rate.
