Very nice rod that was just as I expected. The diameter was correct and it cut easily to the length I needed for my DIY hand truck made from old wheelbarrow parts, lawnmower wheels, surplus lumber, and 1/2" diameter shaft collars. Would buy again.

What’s to rate about a plain steel rod? I cut it down to 3’ and pounded it into the ground, to hold up spiral Christmas tree decorations. It works and looks great. But, you can’t see the plain steel rod.

another quality product from the Home Depot
I bought this to make a towel bar for my treadmill, which had no storage. It was easy to cut and worked perfect for my purpose. So far everything of this store brand has been good quality, no complaints..

A bit overpriced, very oily (bring gloves to the store with you if you buy this), not especially round (might not work as a shaft material), but worked for my use (cut into small rollers to move a heavy lathe across a concrete floor).

This is a plain hot-rolled steel rod, most likely close to A36 spec. Measured diameter is .366, which is pretty far off from the spec'd .375 inch. It has a rough pitted surface. It is a basic piece of steel for general use. I would not use it in any project that had any mechanical load requirements. For example it would make a good axle for a small cart, and it's good in a pinch for making quick steel parts. I chucked this up in my lathe to make a small non-critical replacement pin for another machine, and it worked as a functional piece. If you just need a piece of steel rod for a quick project, this will do.

I got this for use in doing some work on Christmas wire frame decorations that I build myself. The size is appropriate for the wireframe light clips and it is easy to weld and stiff enough that whatever you build will not bend when it is moved around. Bending it is a challenge but it can be done. Obviously you want to paint something like this with multiple good coast of paint for use outside. And it needs cleaned well before painting. If you want to build something with no bends you can build something like a snowflake but that means more short pieces and more welding. I built a large tree out of rebar for the outer frame and I am considering putting a curved mouth on it with this with some smaller stuff maybe for the eyes.

Metal stock, such as this steel rod is useful for numerous projects. This rod can be easily cut with a hacksaw and any rough edges at the cut line can be removed with a file. With a metal cutting lathe the rod can be reduced to a smaller diameter or otherwise fashioned to make custom parts. For attaching a small pulley a flat can be filed on the rod so that the pulley is locked in place.

This is a really strong steel round rod. I have trepidation just about everything to bend and hold this tree up straight and nothing I have tried has had the strength to hold it up without bending or coming up out of the ground. This rod wend straight in the ground and stayed straight even after staking the tree. It didn’t budge. I’m very pleased with this rod. This tree was transplanted by a gardener and never stood straight. Now it has a chance.

The "3/8 in. x 72 in. Plain Round Rod" is an excellent steel product that can be used in many projects in construction and gardening. In my case I am using them to keep my young mango trees in a good growing position, flexible enough to allow the young tree to move with the wind and at the same time sturdy enough to provide an strong hold in the ground. They are also great with tomato plants, year after year. I like and recommend them.

This well finished steel rod can be easily cut to size with a hacksaw or metal working bandsaw. It can be worked with a file, for example to create a flat for use with a pulley. It can be bent by securing it in a sturdy vise an using a length of steel tubing as a lever to make a reasonably accurate radius bend. In its original form it has slight surface irregularities, but these can be removed with abrasive cloth, preferably by spinning the rod in a lathe or drill chuck. It then takes on a smooth and shiny finish. I keep a selection of metal stock for future projects and this is a good addition to my collection.

Conveniently packaged in a three foot length for those small projects requiring a pivot or support. Shipped with a protective coating to inhibit rust, the nominal 3/16 inch (0.1875in.) actually measured 0.1850 inches, which may be of concern if you are fitting the rod to the ID of another piece. As long as the diameter is adequate for ones needs, this will be of use to the hobbyist or DIYer.

1/8 inch by 48 in Plain Steel Cold Rolled Round Rod has a variety of uses for various craft items... excellent for making model steel fence posts for dioramas, also can be used for making clay pot figurines. Easy to cut with a hack saw, or a bolt cutter. Cut end can be smoothed and/or round tapered using either a grinder or a belt sander. I usually paint mine with black spray paint for making model posts or if it is being used outside.

Purchased new outdoor shade for patio and mounting hooks didn't line up. Instead of drilling three new holes into concrete lintel, used 1/4 in X 72 in steel rod to mount the new shade using the current mounting holes and hooks. The rod is strong enough to support the shade with no bending. Exactly what we needed.
