Thinset used to adhere
Some thinsets heavily whipped up with drill based mixer can install micro-bubbles that will not come out of thinset when first applying. As thinset hardens the bubbles will appear under applied moisture barrier.

This item is NOT good proof!
I installed membrane using thinset and was extremely careful to remove all the bubbles. I was shocked to find out the next day that both large and small bubbles were everywhere! Frustrated, I looked up this problem on the net and found out that water was sucked out of the thinset by the Durarock and the membrane!
Do yourself a favor, spend the extra money and buy Schluter board
