Has been tolerable, until recently.
I have owned the lyric for a few months and it has been working ok until recently. I patiently struggled through geofencing bugs, multiple resets, and a whole host of other issues with this product and it seems to be getting worse. The most recent problem is that the lyric has started deciding that 56° is a comfortable temperature when I am home in the evenings, meanwhile it is in the low 30's and snowing outside! Nowhere in my settings do I have it where it is supposed to go below 60° unless I manually change it. I really wish I could return this piece of garbage and buy a nest...

    Terrible thermostat
This is by far the worst product that Honeywell engineered. The whole software is buggy, definitively released prematurely. First of all the much touted Geo fencing it work only when it want to. and second of all, it does not have a permanent hold, so if you wish to do that you will need to create manual shortcuts, and here is where the problem begins. The shortcut simply do not work. or they work whenever they want to. Ex I set a manual away shortcut to keep my summer home heat at a steady 55 degrees, since I'm not using the house, Next day when I look at the temperature of the house I see that the thermostat decided to change my hold temperature to 70, the next day it automatically changed to 65, all on its own Honeywell has not been able to solve and fix this problem, so the recommended for me to delete all shortcuts so the system wont get confused. If I wanted to purchase a non programmable thermostat, I would have done it and believe me I would have paid a lot less than what I paid for this piece of junk. I would recommend to purchase the Nest Thermostat. Much better customer support, and a better and nicer overall product. My father has it at home and he loves it.

      Wouldn't buy this product again
The hardware, software and setup experience feel really cheap. For a consumer friendly product, it's difficult to get through the setup process. $20 more will get you the nest - it's a better out of box experience, setup process, & piece of hardware (the screen can be viewed from all angles unlike the lyric) Compared to the nest, the physical hardware is really difficult to use. It's hard to get the thermostat wiring into the tiny little holes. Nest provides you with wiring contacts you can push with your finger, not contacts that require a tiny screw driver. In addition, Honeywell will spam you with emails even if you choose not to be contacted. I've received 4 since installing and marking myself private.

Thank you for your feedback - it only helps us improve. This certainly isn't the experience we'd expect from the Lyric thermostat. If you'd like to give us another chance, we'd like to talk to you. Please email us at honeywellhome@honeywell.com.Honeywell

Alert Feature on package not included in product
This product advertises a feature in which you can get alerts if the temperature of your dwelling drops to an extreme. After installation, and not being able to find the feature in the App, I called the help line and they told me the alert feature is not currently available, and will be included in a future update. They could give no timeline as to when this feature would be avaiable

A great product for controlling home environment remotely.
The installation of the Lyric thermostat was really seamless - I used the provided Android step-by-step installation guide that was really slick. The video led me through the entire process, even prompting to snap an image of the wiring as the old unit was removed so that the proper connections would be a snap! The Lyric unit is really simple to operate from a smartphone and links nicely with Android or iPhone devices. There is currently no app available to control it from a PC or Mac if desired, although that suggestion has been passed on. Firmware updates are automatically pushed from Honeywell's servers, along with email notifications that updates have been released. My only criticism is that the unit comes with no instructions or detailed explanations for the many features it provides. This leaves users to flounder a bit to discover some operational basics. For instance: There are no markings or arrows indicating how to physically adjust the temperature at the thermostat. All of the operations appeared to be touch controls (again, no instructions provided). After contacting customer support and doing an on-line chat with a REALLY helpful technician, I learned that the outer ring of the dial had to be physically rotated to adjust the temperature. (The resistance to rotate it made it initially appear to be fixed.) An arrow or other indicator would be helpful, since the outer ring simply has the appearance of a nice designer accent rather than a rotating control. (Not complaining about the sleek design - only that intuitive operation is important. Technicians on two separate chats concurred that a user manual and indicator arrows on the face had been requested by a number of other users.) I would highly recommend this unit for someone looking for a great way to manage their home environment remotely. When away from home, temperatures can easily be monitored and adjusted for maximum efficiency, yet it can be set to be perfectly comfortable upon arriving at home. Again, it would really be helpful to users if there were some detailed explanations and instructions for setting up and using the various features that the Lyric provides. Note: My only hesitation on an Excellent Overall and Quality rating was due to the lack of information that came with the unit.

        Near Perfect Thermostat
This is definitely a solid competitor for the current craze in the thermostat market. I've got my phone and wife's phone connected to it and we definitely have already saved money with the home/away monitoring. I no longer worry about turning the temp up on our AC when we leave. The Geofencing is excellent and actually knows when we are home and when we aren't instead of going by a recorded schedule. My only complaints are the wifi doesn't connect to our 5Ghz router, had to use the 2.4Ghz frequency. The wiring instructions aren't as clear as I had hoped. I had to contact honeywell twice to get it working right, but the customer service was fast the first time, then slow to pick up the 2nd time but friendly and helpful none the less.

        2 strikes and you're out.
Bought the lyric to upgrade my thermostat in my home. Installed the unit as directed. Would no sync up to my phone or the app. My heater would go through a cycle shut off and the cut right back on. Thought I set it up wrong. Contacted Honeywell support, which was helpful, and they told me the unit seemed to be defective. So I took it down and hooked up my old thermostat which worked just fine. Exchanged the unit and got another one to give the lyric another shot. No go. Same issues. Ended up returning the lyric and purchased the nest which was way easier to hook up, actually came with printed directions, and actually works.

        Great thermostat
This thermostat has better compatibility than Nest, and was very easy to install. It connected easily to my WiFi network and setup was a breeze. It did however develop connectivity issues and would refuse to reconnect to my network when the connection dropped. Honeywell recently released an update to fix this issue, but my Lyric never picked up the update. I contacted support via email, and they were very helpful. We did some troubleshooting, and they even tried to push the update to my device from their end. In the end, they found a "software discrepancy" and are sending me a replacement Lyric. Nice thermostat, great feature to save you money, and helpful tech support. Even with the issues I ran into, since support did not give me a hassle and are fixing the problem, I recommend the Lyric and would buy another. I ended up giving this 4 stars since there are some issues, and there is no way to manage the thermostat outside of the iOS or Android app (e.g. through a web browser), but Honeywell is working on adding features and fixing issues based on user feedback in their community forums.

        Great product bad app/ wesite
I like the Lyric thermostat it works well and is easy to use for the most part. with that being said I have couple issues with everything else around it. There is no manual in the box for installation. You will NEED ! a smartphone to use this thermostat. To start off you will need download install the app Lyric by honeywell. It will have the instructions and step by step animations to help you. Here is where I have the problem. The wiring part of the app is not well made. I had a standard forced air wiring but with a Y1 and a W1 code of of my old thermostat (only 2 yrs old). The lyric app told me I had an uncommon wiring and to contact the website. The website is useless in terms of help with any further instructions. I had to contact Honeywell directly to verify the wiring (took 15 minutes). Once wall wired up I started the actual setup of the app with the thermostat. You will need to register an account with honeywell. This was the worst part, they send you an activation email before you can setup your thermostat. It took 15 minutes for the email to be sent and once I got the email the activation link did not work. I was getting a website error to please try again later.... ???? Finally after getting everything to work I was able to setup the app and my thermostat to my house. The thermostat works well and functions far better than a standard unit. It knows when to turn on and off when either my wife or me are around. The proximity sensor is a nice touch and turns on the display of the thermostat once you walk by. I would recommend the Lyric if you are never on a set schedule and you are looking to have more control over your house temperature.

Very cool item. Easy to set-up.
Saves energy, and convenient to be able to change heat/cool in my house before I actually arrive there. No more waiting for house to heat/cool upon return.

        21st Century Upgrade
A nice upgrade from our old thermostat. It can be controlled from our smart phones; it knows when we are both away due to the GPS function and it changes to energy savings mode; it can be programmed with several different on and off times and it was a snap to install. The only downside is no user manual. You learn from the app you must install on your phone. A bit frustrating at times but once you set it up, it's great.

        Great product from Honeywell
I have been using a Nest for my first floor unit before I got this thermostat from Honeywell. It has been more than two months since I installed it on the second floor unit and I love it ever since. Installation was done in fifteen minutes. It allows you to remotely monitor your house via smartphone so the house is always at comfortable temperature when you come home. This works very well for me because I don't want to waste energy when I am not at home but it takes hours for my memory-foam mattress to cool down in the summer. In terms of temperature control, I find Lyric a bit easier than the Nest. Nest keeps changing the temperatures and sometimes falls out of my comfort range. Lyric also monitors the humidity level so the temperature is closer to the real-feel temperature.

Did not work for my boiler
While this appears to be a fantastic idea, it does not work for all applications. I have a new gold series boiler in my 1911 house equipped with radiant baseboard heat. It says it should work but there may be limitations and luck of my life is that mine has them. I have a simple 2-wire (white/red) setup for power and signal...that's it...and it did not power on when the system was put back on line. Not sure how it couldn't work since it is just that simple. The install guide within the app even said I had a unknown wiring configuration and it's currently working with an automated touchscreen thermostat for 8-day programming. Once I started to unhook the wire I did notice an unpleasant design to hold the wire. Instead of a switch catch to hold the wire, you stuff it in the hole and barbs must catch hold, you try and bend the little tabs which appear to bend to release and they break and the wires do not come out. I had to wiggle/pull the wires out with fear that it would break. They need to change that design and use the good ole trusty switch that is on every other thermostat out there for a more simple installation, or in my case, un-installation. I do not recommend it to those out there with a 2-wire (white/red) radiant heat system...may work for others and I guess I will just have to try it in another system to see what happens.

Looks great, advanced, but not needed if you can use a 7 day programmable thermostat
I replaced a 7 day programmable thermostat with the new Lyric. The Lyric looks great and was very easy to install. They have some innovative installation features. The online tutorial stops at one point so you can take a picture of the old wiring. This is a great way to eliminate any errors. There is a built in level and an optional ring to cover any old holes from the lest thermostat. Connecting to the wireless is easy. There are a few options to configure like furnace type and if you have AC or just a heater. Once set up, the Lyric is very easy to set the temperature, just turn the dial. There is a nice looking glow that turns on when you turn the heating dial. The unit also has a motion sensor and lights up when you walk close. So the unit looks great and is easy to set, but I don't yet understand how the control features are better than a regular 7 day programmable thermostat. It appears like I must add rules for each time I want the temperature to change, just like the old one. To learn it needs you to change the setting each time, but this doesn't work in the middle of the night. There are shortcuts on the app to change settings, but I don't want to have to click a button each time I go to sleep, the time should just be programmed. It can be set up just like a 7 day thermostat, but then what was the point of the more advanced features. It's a good product, but more advanced than it needs to be.

        Amazing convenience
This thermostat has a very elegant look too it and after having the original nest for a while I actually prefer the way the Lyric performs and looks. The installation was very easy, and the instructions were very clear. My only request is that the app that links my smartphone to the thermostat be improved. It's a hard to use interface and I think it could use some major improvements, but I do understand that apps are constantly being updated.

        Lyric is worth the upgrade
We replaced a basic Honeywell WiFi thermostat in our home with the Lyric. The basic WiFi one worked well so I thought it would take a lot to impress us. And the Lyric delivered with flying colors. Installation: The installation process was on par with changing any thermostat in your home, the app walks you through a VERY detailed set of instructions on changing it so you really shouldn't get lost (remember to take a picture of your old thermostat wiring just in case). On the day we installed the thermostat, Honeywell's email servers happened to be down so we had some trouble with the "account activation" step. However, I chatted online with tech support from Honeywell and within 1 minute everything was working, they were very friendly and helpful! Look and feel: For such a simple looking, relatively small device, the Lyric really spruces up a room. When you walk in front of it, it lights up just waiting for you to play with it! The device itself is a touch screen, with a nice bright graphic display. When you change settings on the Lyric, it lights up and shines a colored light on the wall which adds to the aesthetics. One of my favorite features of the Lyric is the weather button, if you are curious what the weather is going to be over the next 15 hours you can just press a button on the Lyric to see the weather report. Energy Savings: There are two main ways you can easily save energy with the Lyric. One, you can manually tell Lyric you will be gone for a number of hours and it will go into "away mode". Two, you can use the smart phone app (both iPhone and Android) to setup rules including time of day and even "geolocation" settings. This geolocation means when you leave the house the Lyric identifies you are gone and automatically goes into "away mode".

Beautiful design, potential not fully realized by APP
I would recommend this product after careful consideration of the household and ability to use smartphone technology and APPS. The product is very intelligent looking and simple. It has a pleasing illumination when you walk up to it and extremely simple adjustment controls on the thermostat. I also like the quick access to weather on the weather forecast on the thermostat. Installation was very simple as well but did require the APP to be downloaded to proceed. From there the app walks you through the specific step-by-step instructions based on your current wiring. All you need is a smartphone and screwdrivers. Once installed, you can control the temperature in your home from anywhere on your phone. It also allows geofencing (adjustable as I understand for denser populations) which senses your proximity once you are within 7 miles of your thermostat. This is is the beauty of the device. It can sense you leave and then run the furnace/AC at a miserly level and then returns to set comfort levels before you walk in the door. The drawback is that if you have multiple family members at home, they all need to have a smartphone connected so they are also comfortable. During the summer, I had a sitter watch the kids during the day but I didn't want to install the app on her phone (nor give her control of our temperature at any given moment regardless of where she was). Same for setting my kids up. Some are too young and some I don't want to give that control to. I also had a problem during the first week with the system disconnecting and no weather available so I replaced the battery - which is specified as a LITHIUM AAA and then chatted via the website with the Lyric Help desk. Since then all has been working great. I have also not yet figured out if you can just set schedules like typical thermostats. I feel that is something that lower cost thermostats do but it would be a helpful option.

Nice upgrade for the Geek Home
Smart thermostats are very neat, but realistically, I'm not seeing a whole lot of difference between my old non-programmable thermostat. The bells-and whistles are very cool, and I have yet to see savings from the advanced features of this thermostat since our weather here has been fantastic this summer. Installation was incredibly easy following the instructions in the Android app (iOS also supported). Programming is done through the app, with only a few functions available on the unit itself. I would definitely recommend this thermostat. I'm excited to try out the geofencing and other features this winter to save on heating costs. The included lithium battery was mostly discharged, but my installation has a C wire, so no big deal. I do not know how long this thermostat will run on just the lithium battery if you don't have a C wire.

        COOL THERMOSTAT!
Out of the box and onto the wall in less than one hour. The hardest thing about setting this up was painting the wall behind the old thermostat so that the old paint didn't show through. The set up was effortless and everything seems to be working as it should be. The instructions on the app (which is needed to get full smartphone functionality) were easy to follow. The part that kept me from giving it five stars is that there is no user manual, not even online. You must get all of your information from the how-to videos or by calling Honeywell. A user manual would allow the purchaser to get the most out of the unit. I still don't know if the GPS function (which pairs the Lyric and my smart phone) is actually working or if I need to do something else. And that GPS function, Geofencing as Honeywell calls it, is one of the coolest enhancements to this new thermostat. Some of the settings and adjustments are also unknown. A user manual would definitely help. Besides that, I am very happy with the performance of the unit. Lyric works well, our smartphones can change temps and settings and we're looking forward to energy savings as Lyric learns our daily habits and adjusts our temps accordingly.
