Don't put your life at risk!
Installed 13 months ago. Started chirping.. Battery date is 6-2025 still 12 months out. Battery is dead. Why does a ac wired smoke alarm use a battery in 13 months? Because it's a bad design. This is a defective life saving device and should be recalled!

    Cheap excuse for a battery
Bought this smoke detector on 6-21 -23. Installed it on the 6-26-23. After 6hours it began chirping low battery ,when I inspected it the battery expiration date stamped on is 07-23 less than 30 days . Cost me over $ 11.00 to replace both batteries. Expect to add the price of new batteries to the purchase price

Mostly giving this a good rating for the price, which with these being on sale made it super worth the cost. The instructions aren’t super clear on how to replace them and they aren’t compatible with the ceiling docks from the previous model, so you have to remove the old docks and install the ones they provide in the packaging. Overall very easy and if you get confused just watch YouTube.

Bought to replace my original hardwired battery-back up alarms, these were the same in terms of the power connector style (and also came with an adapter), but wouldn't work with the original ceiling brackets, which was no big deal since they include new brackets, which were very easy to switch out. Once the new brackets were on, I did have to push on each unit pretty hard to get them to catch on the bracket, but it was doable. All in all, probably took about an 60-75 minutes to replace 5 of them (and that includes having to cut open some of the plastic packaging, which as we all know is ridiculously hard, leading one to wonder if the scissors are really that dull, if one's already beginning to lose strength with age, or why there are still so many non-recyclable, non-compostible materials being used when there are better alternatives)? Definitely recommend these smoke alarms. Hope they last at least the 9 years that the original alarms did before all deciding to start screaming at once for no reason until we disconnected them. I have a good neighbor, though, who immediately texted to ask if everything was okay. There are still good neighbors in the world who live in peace and look out for each other, regardless of political, ethnic and other differences. Oh, and the smoke alarms really are excellent for new or replacement installations. I would absolutely buy them again. I also appreciate that the little green light is less bright than on the original smoke alarms, because I had to stick blue tape on the original alarm light to prevent it from keeping me awake, but the glow on the new ones is more gentle, so doesn't keep me up). Great design and function!

      Junk product?
1 yr old, battery at 1.4, chirps at night even after battery change; same problem described in previous reviews.

Don't buy this faulty smoke alarm.
After only 5 years on a 10-year warranty all of my smoke alarms went off in the middle of the night and wouldn't stop, even after numerous attempts to shut them down. I had to call the fire department to disable them. I will NEVER buy a Kidde product again.

          Easy
Easy to install. It has an adapter so you do NOT have to rewire if you are replacing an old alarm. Front loading battery.

            Faulty interconnecting
I got 7 of these back in November last year and they worked fine until January when one beeped on me for about a second. I got up on a stepladder to see what was going on and I noticed the alarm was getting hot. Then I pressed the test button and noticed the alarm wasn’t interconnecting with the others. Then I went to test the rest of them and then and then I found another one in a different room that wouldn’t interconnect. Then one day I had the exact problem that apparently several other people have which is false alarms except mine happened in the middle of the day. I cleaned them and that fixed the false alarms. But what I’m most disappointed about is the faulty interconnecting and the poor quality of the alarms. I’ve had this problem with a few other Kidde ionization alarms too which disappoints me even more. So I am currently in the process of replacing them again with BRK/First alert alarms. I’ve already replaced four of them. I plan on replacing the rest at some point.

              Worst smoke alarm
I bought this about a month ago. This alarm goes off if you light a candle in the house. I absolutely hate this alarm. Every time we make dinner we need to take unhook it, and take the battery out. I’ll never buy Kidde again. Way too expensive for all the hassle. This should be sold at the dollar store not big box stores

Easy replacement. Life span for smoke detectors is 10 years. The ones I replaced were 31.

                Not impressed.
The existing detectors in house were 30 years old. Tried to replace with this model. When plugging detectors in the alarm goes off. Have followed all the directions, removed battery, disconnected power, held the reset to no avail. Plug back in and alarm goes off. Not impressed.

                  Great product
I bought my house 12 years ago and installed 7 of the i12060 units. I haven't had any issues. They will go off when something gets burnt in the kitchen but have not had any issues with over sensitivity. I did see a lot of complaints about chirping and people saying they just put new batteries in. I did figure out once that generic dollar store batteries will not work in these units for more than a day or two. I replaced a battery with a generic dollar store battery once cause its what I had. 3 days later used a Duracell battery and havent had an issue since. Only reason I'm replacing a unit is because I broke the battery door. Just want to make sure I get the correct hardwired unit and maybe upgrade.

                    Nighttime Nightmare
I replaced all our our hardwired smoke detects around 2 years ago with i12060A. We now get multiple spurious whole house alarms going off several nights per week. Always at night. Why?? Certainly don't recommend.

Hello. It sounds like some dust or debris or an insect got into the smoke chamber of one of the alarms and the alarm mistook the debris for smoke. False alarms are most commonly caused by something interfering with the sensor. To clean, hold the unit by its edge and thoroughly blow through the gap on the side of the unit with compressed air (like keyboard cleaner). We recommend cleaning out all of your smoke alarms at least every 6 months to a year and at this point we would recommend cleaning out all of your other alarms as well as a preventative. If you have interconnected alarms, the first step is finding the initiating unit, as that is the key. Once you know where the issue is happening, it is usually easy to figure out what is causing the alarms to go off. To find the initiating unit, look for one that is flashing RED or GREEN at least once every second while in alarm mode, then follow the reset procedure on that unit. If the alarm stopped on its own before you could find that flashing light, the initiating unit will flash for 1.5 seconds every 10 seconds. If there are no obvious signs of a fire, the alarm should be cleaned before being reinstalled. Some of your alarms may be in one the locations to avoid listed in the owner's manual. This would especially include alarms being installed within 3 ft (.9m) of a forced air supply ducts used for heating or cooling, ceiling or whole house ventilating fans, or other high air flow areas. We recommend that alarms not be installed near vents, flues, chimneys, or fans. We recommend that alarms not be installed near doors or windows near areas directly exposed to the weather. We strongly recommend not to install these alarms in garages, attics, and crawl spaces as you will get temperatures, dust, insects, and chemicals that can cause nuisance alarms. Try cleaning out the alarms. If you have the issue again, find the alarm setting off all of the others and call us with that alarm in hand at 1-800-880-6788 so we can get this resolved for you.
If You Hate Taking Alarms off this is for you!
This one has to be the most advanced design yet. There is no need to take the detector off to replace the battery. No, you don’t need to take the harness of Either! It also has Smart Hush™️ to prevent nuisances even More! This is also a good Suitable Replacement for the 1276!

                        Disappointing Experience
We had a series of these units installed in an addition last Fall, and before we even received our final occupancy permit, one of the units had failed. We've now been back in the house for about 4 months (it's a weekend/vacation house) and we've experienced over-sensitivity in the unit in a bedroom off of the kitchen, just like others have described. Unless we close the bedroom door, anything we cook (even popcorn) with just a tiny bit of smoke sets the unit off unless we close the bedroom door. Last night we left the door open by accident and, sure enough, the alarm went off, scaring the little grandkids to death. Then overnight last night, that same alarm started chirping as if the battery was low. Again, the unit was installed maybe 5 months ago. I currently have it disconnected and I don't know whether changing the battery will help or the unit is just bad...

Hello. Please call us at 1-800-880-6788 with the alarm in hand. We do stand behind our products and we are happy to troubleshoot and figure out what is going on and get an issue resolved. However, you may be happier with a photoelectric model in this location. A photoelectric sensor will be less affected by steam and heat and humidity.
Starting to fail after 5 years
Purchased a dozen, installed 5 years ago. Over the past few weeks 2 have failed. I opened up both units and they were whistle clean (I replace my HVAC filter regularly, keep my windows closed, and house clean) so dust/lint is not the issue. I can't have my family woken up at night to a dozen smoke detectors going off when they have good batteries and operate in a clean, temperature controlled environment. My only choice to to replace them one-by-one, waking up the family every time, or replace them all. I loath the cost of doing so since they are only 1/2 through their warranty period.

                            Negative Reviews and Positive Reviews?
The reason for the negative reviews is the battery must by DURACELL and Energizer REGULAR version. All the ENERGIZER 9volt batteries now are the ENERGIZER MAX 9 volt. The reason as a backup battery must be installed and it must be REGULAR duracell and REGULAR energizer. and MUST BE ALKALINE. The reason is the alarm has a circuit called a comparator circuit that is used to determine the strength of the battery. Now it's a small software in the chip board and MUST be exact match or you get ERRORS or alarm telling you you are not using the correct battery and there is an ERROR meaning the VOLTAGE of the battery does NOT MATCH. The errors will corrupt the software in memory and needs to be RESET. 1. wear plastic gloves and use plastic screw flat head to remove the AC connector. or you can shut off main electric if you are not confortable with do it for safety, The thing is all plastic wire 2. remove battery 3. press 15 seconds on alarm to reset battery 4. put in ac connector back on. 5 .turn on electricity house 6. put battery back on. your unit is reset An error was the WRONG battery. I cannot believe some drug stores don't even sell DURACELL Regular batteries. DO NOT USE the ENERGIZER MAX 9 volt, they were only introduced in 2020 and is NEW TECHNOLOGY to make batteries last longer in STORAGE. Well to do that, it has less voltage and voltage does NOT match the software embedded in the smoke alarm, This is very sophisticated piece of equipment with very high technology. Just follow the instructions. The WRONG BATTERY. The energizer MAX may have same MODEL BUT it's different from the REGULAR energizer batteries. REPEAT DO NOT use the NEW energizer MAX batteries. In many drug stores, this is the only 9 volt battery and no DURACELL or the old regular ENERGIZER volt. And don't throw the smoke alarm away. The culprit was the wrong battery, If you read in the back it says to specifically use only duracell and energizer and has to be ALKALINE. but the MAX version is new 'technolog' and not the same as the regular battery. it took almost entire day to figure out the culprit. The problem only occur after putting in the energize max battery. and after resetting the smoke alarm and putting in a duracell there is no intermittent chirps. intermittent chirps is an softwar ERROR message. and this model you cannot leave the battery not in the smoke alarm, you have to put a backup battery in it. or you get an ERROR which is what the intermittent loud beep is.

DON'T BUY THIS MODEL!!!! Let me start with we've never had any problems with Kidde products in the past until now. Purchased a new built home and this model was installed throughout the entire house. a few months after moving in, we noticed Intermittent chirping, that the manual says is from low battery.with one of the units. Replaced battery in the unit multiple times and it still chirps. You'd think with all of the similar complaints they'd stop manufactuing this model!!! If my other units start the same problem, I'm swaping all of them out with another manufacturer.

Expected life span not given? Why?
Just installed 2 of these i12060A’s to replace 15 year old similar wired units with backup. NOWHERE in the ‘user guide’ is a life limit specified. There is a 10 year ‘warranty’ but I need to know WHEN they will loose their sensitivity and need to be replaced.

Would rather have no smoke alarm
What is the difference between an alarm that spuriously goes off all the time and not having any alarm at all? Obviously, there is no difference. What I really want from Kidde is a list of all names used to market their hardware so I can be certain I never purchase anything manufactured by these people again.

When our 13-year-old Kidde's were done, we examined other vendors. The inexpensive First Alert ones from Costco went in easily but consistently false-alarmed. We went back to Home Depot and Kidde, bought one two-pack for a several month trial, which had no false alarms. We now have six Kidde's installed, operating quietly and without false alarms. Very happy.

                                    Always late at night
We bought our house a little over a year ago. These alarms came with it. Of course the previous owners left us no manuals or documentation for anything. After living here about 6 months or so, the chirping started. We would walk all around the house at 3 am, pushing buttons until we pushed the right button and it would stop. And then the next night it would start up again. It is always at night. Late at night. Finally able to figure out what brand/type of alarms these were and learned about the yearly battery replacement. So we changed the batteries in all 10+ alarms. Even though the batteries still work, which is kind of annoying because they aren't cheap but whatever. Chirping stopped. Last night, around 4 AM, we were awoken by the fire alarm going off. Beeping and screaming "Fire! Fire!" My husband and I bolt out of bed. It did not wake our 7 year old somehow. There is even one in his room! So the 2nd floor we are on seems fine. We run downstairs and it seems fine too...So the panic wears off a bit and we nervously head to our basement and garage. Nothing. Thankfully. The alarms stopped on their own. Now we don't know what to do. We think maybe the heater kicking on did it somehow? It was the first night it got to 30 degrees outside but not the first night we had the heater on this fall. The alarm went off again, this time for just a minute or so and stopped. We continued to check the house and finally tried to go back to bed. I am dreading sleeping this evening now. Since the battery alarm went off every night around the same time, and since we have no idea why our fire alarms went off last night, it's a possibility I will be awoken again in fear with a false alarm. I have read the reviews. I have read the blanket statements from Kidde. It is not in a location it shouldn't be. None of them are dirty. And if it was "dust" why would a fire alarm be set off by dust?!? And why all of the sudden? How did it get magically covered in dust at 4 am and then magically uncovered on it's own? (When it turned itself off). We will clean them all anyway just in case, but it seems ridiculous to me. Finally, there is one that is in the hallway leading to our kitchen. There have been a couple times where a decent amount of smoke was coming out of the oven from dried food on the bottom or something. That alarm never went off. Which kind of worries me that it won't detect a real fire. I gave the unit two stars because I like the idea of them. I like that they sense both fire and carbon monoxide. I like that they are all interconnected, so if one goes off - they all do. I like that they are hardwired and have backup batteries. In theory anyway. I like that it says "fire" or "carbon monoxide".

Be prepared to replace the batteries immediately
I have this particular model throughout my house two of them failed hard so I was pleased that HD had these in a two pack at a reasonable price and they arrived fast. However the 9v batteries in both detectors were DOA. As it would cost me more in gas/time to return than it would be to just replace the batteries I just popped in two new 9v and they are working fine now but it makes me wonder how long this product was sitting in the warehouse or shipping container.

Hello. The date of manufacturing of the alarms should be on the back of the alarms themselves. It could be that the alarms were sitting on the shelf long enough for the batteries to have gotten weak. The alarms themselves are warrantied for 10 years from the date of receipt. Staple the receipt to the owner's manual or keep a digital copy of the receipt or both. If there is ever a warranty issue, we can have you email us a copy of the receipt.

Horrible - unless you enjoy the alarm chirps
Installed 9 detectors November 2020. Detector is AC hardwired, but still get low battery chirps and replacing battery every year. Why do the low battery chirps always seem to happen around 3:00am when trying to sleep. Also have issues with random chirps & false alarms. I have very tall ceilings... so it's a pain to clean the detectors every month hoping that it prevents false alarms. Will eventually replace with another brand.

Hello. Yes, the alarms with replaceable batteries have to have their batteries replaced every 6 months to a year and all of our alarms need to be cleaned out at least every 6 months to a year and sometimes more often. The I12010S smoke alarm will have a 10 year sealed battery so you don't have to change the battery every year.
