Doesn't work to detect natural gas! As a test before installing it I held it over an unlit gas burner for enough time to smell it strongly (yes I have an exhaust). This detector NEVER went off! I even plugged it in to eliminate the battery. So I had the battery in it and the next day is started beeping. I pressed the reset button and it went off and said GAS GAS. I'd be dead before I heard that. Returning it and notifying Public Safety Commission. Can't call or email Kidde as no info or instructions were in the package.

This new one is to replace the current that died after 2 years in use. It was supposed to last until 2025 (I marked the date on product). Can I get a refund for the old one that just died?

The old one may be still under warranty and a replacement may be possible or we may be able to help you to get this old one working again. Call us with the old unit in hand and new battery so we can troubleshoot it and figure out what is going on. Please note that this is one of the few alarms we have that don't have a 10 year life. This alarm has a 7 year lifespan and will go to END after 7 years of use.

Unreliable
I used this in an apartment for 2 years without issue. I moved and stored it in sealed bin, without the battery installed, in sealed bubble wrap. I tried to use this in my new apt and now it beeps every 30 seconds with an L6 code even though it now has a new battery and has been "reset". 4 year old piece of junk. Mfg Dec 15, 2016 Issue Code 0009088

My first Kidde Plug-In Carbon Monoxide and Explosive Gas Detector with 9V Battery Backup and Digital Display lasted almost 8 years and comes with a 5 year warranty. This is my 2nd unit. I like it since it not only detects carbon monoxide but also propane and natural gas which many others do not. I also like that it can operate using AC power or 9v battery. It can also be mounted on a wall. I highly recommend and hope it will still be available when this one reaches end-of-life in 8 or 9 years. Well worth the money for peace of mind and safety features.

Product meets all expectations except color. All photos show detector in white. Store only offered in gray. Still appears to function well, just less visually appealing.

I only gave a five-star review despite the fact that there is no easy practical way to test this device for actual function using real gas or CO. Set-up was easy and it appears to be functioning correctly. It is installed in the home of an elderly couple who have just recently converted to an LGP kitchen range. Hopefully this detector will never be needed, but it does provide additional peace of mind protection should a problem arise with the range or they accidentally leave a vehicle running in the attached garage. Big plus is that the alarm siren is loud and at a pitch even people with considerable hearing damage as myself can hear easily.

    Great Product!`
This was bought to replace an ancient Nighthawk that we bought back in the late 90s early 2000s. The explosive gas detection helped with peace of mind when we bought and moved an old farm house and were not sure the old appliances were safe. Great device!

A good value and it works
I purchased this unit after my wife woke me up and told me she thought she smelled gas. After being up the rest of the night assuring her she didn’t I drove to Home Depot and picked up this combination Gas/Carbon Monoxide detector unit. I tested it with an open gas valve and it works well. The alarm emits a very loud piercing blast that is sure to wake up even the soundest sleeper. Having an alkaline 9 volt battery (included) backup; it can be unplugged and moved from room to room for testing. You can plug it right into a 110 volt outlet or slide out a built in stand and sit it on the counter. I have used a Nighthawk Carbon Monoxide detector for several years with no problems. In my opinion this combination unit is a very small price to pay for a good night of sleep.

    2 monitors in one
An easy, no brain er to protect your family. I read the instructions to know what to expect and plugged it in. That simple. Yes, there is a shelf life and I'll have to replace it in years to come, but I'm fine with that. I really like that it is outside my HVAC closet monitoring to two items that concern me at that location.

    Peace Of Mind
CO2 detectors are becoming more mainstream and unfortunately house explosions seemingly more frequent. Just 2 years ago not far from our residence an older couple lost their lives when their home exploded as they slept. Our century home is well over 100 and the hot water heat boiler (slated for replacement when finances permit) should be in a museum. The boiler and all mechanical systems are regularly maintained but never leave anything to chance. The CO2 / explosive gas detector makes perfect sense. After reading the reviews this detector was purchased and installed in a handy wall outlet at the top of the stairs right outside our bedroom. An unlit propane torch provided a gas "leak" source and the unit responded in a timely manner. I have no doubt the CO2 detection is as responsive. The unit has a pull-out tab on the backside to stabilize the unit against the wall. This tab needs a firmer lock as the unit is frequently bumped due to the location of the wall outlet right at the end of the stair handrail. The stabilizing tab consistently retracts with the slightest bump. Other than that minor annoyance the unit gives peace of mind. The recent price reduction was a nice plus.

This product is a must have.
The product has Night Hawk technology which our fire dept suggest a carbon monoxide alarm have. It is easy to read, has a battery back up and is reasonably priced. We have one in our lower level, main level and upstairs level of our home. The carbon monoxide/gas alarm combination is the best way to go.
