Smartcode 955 periodically locks itself where the key or code do not work. You have to remove the battery to reboot it after you break in . Undependable.

I don’t regret the switch the kwikset lock uses 1 battery, allows me to have manny access codes and basically keeps me locked in!

Commercial Grade touchpad electronic deadbolt lever is a 1-touch locking motorized deadbolt. It will only allow someone in with a personal code. The backlight makes it easy to see, even at night. Hubby said it was easy to install and set up.

However no other issues Took me about 25 minutes. That’s with installing several different codes. It’s perfect for my mudroom entrance door. It has an automatic locking system after entry which is perfect for my kids who forget to lock the door behind them. Also there’s no need for them to carry a key anymore. You can program up to 30 different codes and make it personal for each one of them so they don’t forget it. I definitely would recommend this product

Not only does it make our old door look newer (we have in satin nickel finish), but it provides an extra level of security. This is recommended for one hole doors. Installation was very easy and luckily it fit my door well so did not need to make many adjustments. The keypad is nice and it lights up well for access. You can set up customizable codes. It has made it easy for family to go in and out, especially with the lever. We just feel safer having this. It’s also convenient for my household.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After replacing my old lock with the Kwikset Smart Code Lock I'm extremely impressed. Not only does it come with everything you need the directions explain thoroughly on how to install it. My husband had it installed in under twenty minutes and he didn't have any issues or need extra parts to complete the job. This fit perfectly into our previous door frame and looked seamless with no gaps when completed. After installing from the inside you do need to set the code before it will work by removing the back where the battery goes. You can even turn the lock to the right from the inside which allows you to come in without needing to punch the code in. Extremely handy when having a handful of groceries or having family to guests over to visit. If you forget or need to enter your new code remove backing where battery goes and set your code. I don't know if there is a limit to how many times you can get your code wrong but I've done it three times in a row and it worked after that. It's been over a month of having this system and I haven't had any issues or batteries not functioning properly. I really like the sleek updated look and that the handle is curved making it quick and fast just by using my finger tip to get in. No more worrying about lost keys to making duplicates or forgetting about my key and getting locked out. I absolutely love and recommend giving this a try as it's made to last while coming in different colors to your preference and won't tarnish!

Setting up the Pin took Me a Few Times Probably User Error but We Finally Got it! We chose to Rekey it to Match Our Other Locks and that Process was very Easy! I Love the Idea of just punching in a Number to be able to Open the Door instead of Looking for Keys when your Hands are Full. Great Product!

This one we received to review went on our external garage. The smart app is easy to operate. We've had our garage broken into once, so we are really happy with this product. It actually comes with the battery and easy to follow instructions. There are always adjustments to be made when adding a new lock, but my husband is a master electrician and carpenter. We like the ability to add codes and users to our lock. We like how reliable the app has been for us. Overall, it's a brand we can rely on. We have no complaints.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] 955 SmartCode™ Electronic Pembroke Lever featuring SmartKey Security™ took 45 minutes to in stall with help from my husband. It could have been install by one person but two makes it much easier. We had to remove the old door lock that we were changing. The directions that came in the box were a little unclear. We had to get a different size Allen key because they were two different size screws. Only one Allen key fitted . The code was easy to put in with two people. I was happy with the 955 SmartCode™ Electronic Pembroke Lever when we got it finished. The up date Satin Chrome finish gives my door a modern look. The gold set I had was out dated. For doors that needs the dead bolt they need to be purchased extra.

I love that you can use a code or a key to open the door. We used this on bedroom door, so kids can not get in and get into anything dangerous. This lock works great on doors with predrilled hole already or you can make your own. I like the size of the handle and the shape of it. You can use this on a exterior or interior door. Very heavy duty lock. We love it so much we plan on upgrading other locks in the house and garage.

It fit the door perfectly one hole door.We have had 5- 10 degree weather the last week and I have had no problems with the unit freezing. It is visually appealing very nice finish. The keypad lights up when using so easy to use in the dark. The smart-key technology is bump proof, pick resistant and drill resistant, so very secure.It has a very sturdy commercial grade lever. This is an excellent door system, I like that even when the door is locked you can open the door on the inside, without unlocking the door, this auto lock feature is great. I highly recommend this product.

I've never messed with door knobs before and I was able to install it in just a few minutes by myself. The instructions are very clear on how to install and how to set and delete codes. It holds up to 30 different codes, so you will have plenty for everyone in your house and any others you may want to have access. It opens and shuts super smooth, and having the backlight at night is great. I absolutely love not having to worry about keys when I want to get in, especially when my hands are full, or when the kids just need to run in and grab something. Zero worries about getting locked out for any reason! I love it.

First thing if you have not used a electronic lock set yet get on the bandwagon.   These are a welcome addition to my home.  When we go away we program a code for users to check on the house.  When we return we change the code again.  You really have to try to lock yourself out of the house.  My significant other is the Michael Jordan of locking themselves out of EVERYTHING!  This helps alleviate a lot of these issues.  This set is much higher quality than the previous one.  The previous set ate battery's and I was a touch concerned about being locked out due to this.  This set says 3 years for the battery. We will see its on the front door and will see moderate usage. The actuator struggles less than the old set to lock and unlock the mechanisms.  Kwikset is known for easy installation and quality control.  Both of these are evident in the weight of the handles and mechanisms.  The previous set took me over a half hour to install.  I installed the kwikset in less than 20 minutes.  Infact it was so simple I read the instructions twice looking for the quirks.  This set installs like a traditional set with the addition of plugging in a 9volt battery and plugging in a 4 wire connector. Thank you for a quality product kwikset I will purchase again. 

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the Kwikset 955 Commercial Grade Electronic Lever in Satin Nickel finish for many reasons. First and most importantly, I LOVE the security that it provides! I put it on auto lock so that it stays locked after EVERY entry and exit and requires a code to get in each time. It does have passage mode to where you can leave it unlocked if you don't want it locked and requiring a code all the time. Disable passage mode requires the key or code every time. I love how easy it is to install. All you need is a screwdriver! You can program up to 30 different codes. It is really easy to program and reprogram codes. This would be a great for any office building, so everyone can have their own code to enter. The keypad stays lit for 5 seconds, so that comes in handy in dark spaces. You can enter the code with one finger in the event that your hands are full. I love that it runs on a 9 volt battery that too. It does come with two keys in the event that you need them. The lever is very durable and it fits right or left handed doors. I highly suggest the Kwikset 955 Commercial Grade Electronic Lever for any door that needs extra security. You can use it on any door. The garage, office, shed, storage room, front door just to name a few places it would work GREAT on. The decision is yours where you decide to put it. You will NOT be disappointed! I give it a 5/5 stars!

I now feel more secure, knowing that I have the 955 SMARTCODE SATIN NICKEL ELECTRONIC PEMBROKE DOOR LEVER FEATURING SMARTKEY SECURITY BY KWIKSET. This commercial grade lock is extremely well made with your protection in mind! It is fairly easy to install, as well as program. I had a problem with a missing screw, but that was quickly resolved, and the installation completed! I would definitely recommend this lock if you're looking for peace of mind in your home or business!

The Kwikset Smartcode 955 digital lockset is high quality, easy to install, easy to use. This lock set is a commercial grade device that works well for standard single hole doors. Essentially, the device enables or disables the exterior lever. This is not a deadbolt lock - this device operates a normal entry/exit lever. One could install this on a two hole door, but a deadbolt lock would be installed in addition to this lockset. Installation was very easy. I have installed many similar devices, but the Kwikset directions make installation easy for everybody. The directions are clearly written with useful diagrams, and walk you through the process step by step. You are asked yes or no questions to guide you to your appropriate directions based on your door hardware situation. A nice feature is the interior lock/unlock turnpiece. In the unlock mode, a code is not required to open the door. You do have to remember to physically change the turnpiece to lock the door when required. There are options to put the lock in an administrator mode, in which a passcode is required to program the lock. If the device is on a residential door, you probably don’t need the extra layer of security. The Kwikset Smartcode 955 is easy to recommend. It is heavy-duty commercial grade, easy to install, and has several features that allow multiple security options, depending on your situation.

I haven't installed this yet because the door i want to put it in has a mortise lockset so I have to patch the hole in the edge first. But I have examined it and installed a bunch of kwikset locks and this looks similar. This works for me because the door is not currently drilled for a dead bolt but if yours is, realize this has no deadbolt. But if that works for you, this is a high quality lockset that can be operated without a key, as long as the 9V battery is OK. It also has the system where you can rekey it easily to an existing key.

Kwikset brand locks are a trusted name in home security. This 955 Smartcode Commerical Grade touchpad electronic deadbolt lever is a lock that features an outdoor keypad that can be programmed for multiuser access. This is listed as a commercial grade product, it has heavy duty hardware, handles, and can be programmed as if it were a Tennent occupied unit. Installation is easy if replacing an existing lock. Unit operates on a nine-volt battery. Programming is easy to follow and takes only a few steps and has many options, including the ability to enter a special code to enter program mode from outside the door. Auto lock feature uses a inside lever to set auto lock – where the door is locked when exiting, or unlocked. Auto lock can be programmed with a 1-99 second delay. A disappointment with this unit is there is no outside locking button. You cannot lock the door without having first turned the auto lock lever up from the inside. Other Kwikset locks have a “lock” button. Hitting the Kwikset key turns on the digit illumination, making for easy read in the night. Code range from 4-8 digits, and many codes can be saved, as either permeant or limited/special use. This lock features Smart key - where you can reprogram the lock to accept any Kwikset key – allowing for multiple locks to utilize the same key. Lock is attractive and functional.

Kwikset is my preferred brand for locks. I'm a big fan of the Smartkey technology. You can easily rekey all the locks to open with one key. If you need to have work done by a contractor, no need to buy a lockbox, just rekey the lock to a different key and then change it back when the work is done. Adding the electronic feature to a lock is a great deal. I also like the lever design for easy opening when your arms are full. As with all Kwikset locks, installation was smooth.

Since we're having a serious do nothing day courtesy of Hurricane Dorian I figured my downtime would be well spent checking off some of my indoor to-do list items. I just finished installing The Kwikset 955 Smartcode Pembroke Door Lever on our back door. This thing is way cool! It has a 10 digit lighted keypad that can be easily custom programmed with your own four to eight number pass code. A 3 year (hopefully it will last that long) battery is included to power the electronics as well as the motorized deadbolt. The Smartkey feature is a nice bonus - this allow you to program the lock cylinder to yourself without hiring a locksmith. Nice if you wish to have this lock keyed to match another existing one or if you want to change keys at down the road for security reasons. The entire assembly appears to be very stout and well made. The start to finish installation process including getting a handle on the instructions and programming the lock cylinder in my existing door took about a half hour with just a medium sized phillips head screwdriver. The instructions were clear and easy to wrap my head around. This deadbolt door latch unit provides many options for allowing entry without a key (and it is very easy to add or delete a new code for weekend visitors or, say a package delivery).

It took me about the same to program it. I love the auto lock feature and the ability to use different codes. This is the 4th Kwikset lock we have used. We have been very satisfied.

Not to be too overly-dramatic, but this product was a bit life-changing for me! No, seriously. I'm constantly in and out of my shop throughout the day, and randomly. Locking it behind me, being prudent, it's a total hassle to have to dig out the keys when I realize I've forgotten to grab something - which is often. Then, if I leave it unlocked, anticipating that I'll need something more, I find myself forgetting it's been left unlocked. With this, no longer an issue. Installation couldn't have been simpler, requiring only a Phillips screwdriver and maybe 15 mins of my time, including programming. Everything you need is included, including the 9v battery. Have it set to lock after the 10-sec or so factory-set delay. No more needing to have the key on me to gain entrance, and no more accidentally locking the key inside!

This unit is industrial grade and very heavy duty. Comes with very good directions and so well packed. It came in a shipping box, open to the product box, open to a cardboard box and then individually boxed items. Don't let all the items scare you most locks including this one made by Kwik Set are very straight forward. Follow the directions on programming the keypad and looks like this one is made to last for years. Comes with a 9 volt battery.

Kwikset 955 SmartCode Satin Nickel Keypad Security Lock, nice quality, stylish and convenience all in one lock! This Kwikset 955 Smartcode deadbolt is a very nice commercial grade electronic keypad lock and lever that looks great and works perfectly! I have two homes and have purchased several Kwikset Smartcode locks to replace standard deadbolts and door levers and they all still work perfectly years later . I ordered this deadbolt lock to replace a garage to kitchen entry and although I wouldn't recommend this as your only lock on an outside door it is perfect for a garage to inside door. These locks are sturdy and secure but the outside lock can be opened electronically or with a key and so someone could pic the lock if this is used to secure a main door without an additional deadbolt . About the lock/installation: This Kwikset Pembroke lever lock has a very nice fingerprint resistant satin nickel finish and I think this design is perfect for most décor styles. The package includes the lock and hardware along with a small Allen wrench, you will also need a Phillips screwdriver, possibly a regular screwdriver and a hammer to remove the old strike plates on the door and door frame. I am female and have installed many of these locks without a problem; as long as you follow the directions they are quite easy to install. The tricky part can be when you install the inside latch or cylinder you have to make sure it is the correct length and the holes for the spindle and door lever have to be centered. You can extend or shorten the latch by pressing the pins and sliding it to the correct length. The other step that is very important to any lock installation is you have to make sure the hole in the door frame is chiseled deep enough so the latch cannot be pried open with a credit card or screwdriver. A locksmith once showed me how easy it was to pry open the lever from the door frame so I always make sure the hole is chiseled and I test the latch to make sure it is secure in the door frame and can't be pried open. The thing I like best about these Kwikset locks with the Smartcode feature is you can code all of your Kwikset locks with one key and you can also program up to 30 keypad codes so if you have several people in the house, you have guests or even if you have a contractor doing work in your house there is no need to give everyone a key. The codes are reprogrammable so you can erase a code once your guests leave or contractor is done. The 9 V battery is included in the box and should last 2-3 years depending on use. I have been very happy with all of the Kwikset electronic locks I have purchased over the years. They are very durable and reasonably priced, this one is less than $125. As with most products you purchase you get what you pay for. This lever deadbolt lock is nice and sturdy and has many features. As with anything, you get what you pay for. This lock does not have Z wave capabilities to connect to your security system and it is not the most secure lock, but it is a very dependable, nice quality lock for in a price range under $125. I have purchased many Kwikset Smartcode locks over the years and would highly recommend this Pembroke style lock if you are looking to replace your standard door locks with a good quality electronic lock for a reasonable price.

This is a very stylish lock that makes my life easier by allowing me access to my house without having to carry a key with me every time I leave the house. I can go out for a walk or bike ride and no need to worry about how I'm going to get back into my house because I can open the door with my access code or you can use a key if you want. When I leave I only have to hit one button to lock the door and when I get back I just enter my user code. You can program your own code using 4-8 digits and add multiple codes if desired. If it is dark outside, touching the Kwikset button will illuminate the keypad so you can see to enter your code. Installation was pretty easy and the instructions were good.

Practically perfect for Air BnB, this lock set is also great for going on vacation, having house guests, receiving deliveries, and even for people who have cleaning services in. You can have multiple lock codes, reset any code, reset them all, or have no code and only use the keys. You can also turn it off when you are inside. With all of these features, the instruction sheet is large and would have been better as a booklet in which you could mark frequently used pages.

If you just want to keep your kids out of your home office or power tool area, then this type of lock may make sense to purchase. The major problem is that it has a key option, which can easily be opened with a pick tool and pliers in seconds, with no signs of tampering. There are other smart key lock brands without the key option that I would recommend instead. Also, you need to keep the key accessible in case the battery dies. There are other models that let you use an external 9 volt to power the lock if the battery dies, but this is not one of them. This is actually my second QuickSet lock, and they are very easy to use and install. If you have door knob installation experience, you can have this installed and coded in less than 10 minutes. One nice feature is that if you have several of these, they can all be configured to use the same key with the supplied tool. I have another one that I use for the garage door, so I can leave the garage door open, but secure the inside of the house. This one I put on my home office door. Very nice, but not as secure as other models, so I only use for interior doors to restrict access to the adults to certain rooms. If you have the luxury of many children with their own rooms, you could give them each a sense of privacy by giving each room a lock, but mommy and daddy get the override code of course. The included step by step picture instructions with text is also the best I have ever seen.

I have never been disappointed with a Kwikset product, and this one is no different. It was very easy to replace my standard Kwikset door knob with this lever type. My wife tells me how much easier it is to operate, especially with arthritic hands. Swapping it out is fairly intuitive, but I definitely needed the instructions when it came time for programming. Even that was easy, there are just steps you need to take in order to be successful. Re-keying to match other Kwikset KW-1 keys can easily be done, too.
