As if cursing and swearing wasn't enough
It's a nice tub to look at but underneath the polished shine and pretty looks is a temperamental, stubborn beast. The tub comes in 2 parts, the skirt and the basin. The skirt is simple enough, plop it down on the floor, align with the drain and that's it. The basin, oh my, that is a different story. You have to try to level the tub by dropping it down in the basin, if it's not level then you pull it out, screw or unscrew 4 carriage bolts that could be too short, plop it back in, repeat. Mind you, if you have a plumber, expect at least an extra hour of fiddling to get it in. The plumbing is another issue. We installed a roman faucet and wow! Trying to get it in with flexible hoses attached, nightmare! The hoses kinked when lowering it in and had to be redone. Before you say anything, this plumber has at least 15 years experience and knows what he's doing. Let's just say he went over the install manual quite a few times before things were in. You should either silicone the base down to the floor or bolt it carefully. When the tub is empty, it can move, that's the nature of this beast. Looking back, I would never buy ANY freestanding tub, waaaaay too much hassle.

    Serious design flaws
I bought this bath tub because it was cheap, and the backrest is comfortable. But, you get what you pay for. The Canadian version comes with tiny bolts instead of proper feet (US version has feet). Given how small and close together the four bolts are, it is very tippy if you install it following the instructions. Plus the feet bolts are borderline too short! What we did was go to another store and buy proper leveling feet (3" length) for it, and that was a huge improvement for $15 bucks. In the pic you can see the feet/bolts it comes with vs what I replaced it with from the other store. It is still a little wobbly, but so much better. The skirt/outside layer is very flimsy though. Foot got caught getting out of it during installation, and it got a small crack. One of the metal clips that is supposed to space the two pieces properly when they are assembled also fell off. The clips are not properly fastened to begin with so no surprise there. The F2 Drain needed is not sold by Home Depot, but I found it elsewhere.

My husband is very handy. He has redone our entire house and we only hired about 10% of the work done. He replaced an existing alcove tub in an afternoon with ease. I told him he was too busy at work to bother installing this tub and he thanked me, because it is simply not a strait forward install. It took our experienced plumber and his assistant about 4 hours to simply install the tub--he had prepped the concrete and lined up the drain at an earlier visit. That being said, I am very happy with this tub. We are doing a remodel and I was looking for an alternative to the typical alcove tub that was there. All in a 60" was hard to find, and the price was great. There was a chip in the finish, but working with Maxx I was able to get it fixed. I first spoke with Home Depot and they wanted me to return the tub to the store and reorder--that was honestly too much work, and did not fit well with our remodel schedule. Contacting Maxx directly was the way to go.

        terrible customer service
New house, our three year old put a hole in the bottom of a MAXX tub with a toy. The company would not help pay for the repair cost. Poor workmanship and now they get this negative review because of a $150 repair. Look elseware before buying MAXX or Aker.

          Beautiful Tub
This is a beautiful tub that makes a statement in a modern bathroom renovation. I didn't want a huge tub but it is still deep and roomy. Price is great and money is saved by using deck mounted faucets. Installation was a little tricky but not insurmountable. You can't beat this one for the money.

            Great Looking and Good Quality
The tub arrived with no damage and the quality and the look of the install is great. I installed this as a DYI project and there are three installation comments to keep in mind. One is the overflow to drain connection alignment is a bit of a challenge and the hole location and size through the floor is critical as there is not a lot of room for error. Also make sure the fixture connections are no longer than shown in the installation instructions. All in all a great looking tub.

            Great tub
Tub is great so far. It's perfect size that we needed for our space. I've had no problem with keeping water insulated. I don't think contractor had problems with installation at all. Recommend purchase as it was a great price.

              Everyone loves this tub
What a great looking tub. All our friends are jealous. We built a 12x12 bath with a ceramic tile shower but still wanted a soak-er tub. My wife loves sitting in it and soaking her day away. I love washing the grandkids after they have been playing in there for hours. The high back rest is so comfortable. The nice thing is that it is made of fiberglass so it was easy to carry up stairs. And it carries a 5 year warranty. We had a plumber/carpenter install it and he said it wasn't hard at all. We chose the white to match the sink and toilet. We even found beautiful Mediterranean Bronze fixtures to match everything else in our bathroom. Yes I would recommend this tub to anyone.

              perfect!
I love this tub. The only draw back is if you want to do the plumbing on the out side of the tub (as pictured) you have to buy the kit at another store. I finally found it at another retail store.

These tubs are designed for single person use. You can review the dimensions of the product to see how much interior space there will be inside the tub. For 2 average-sized fully grown adults, it would be a very tight squeeze. If you have any other questions, we invite you to contact our team of MAAX product experts at 1-877-GET-MAAX (1-877-438-6229). Our hours of operation are Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm Eastern time. If I could give it a negative rating I would
From a plumbers point of view, stay away from this cheap, poorly designed tub. Takes way too much time to get those bolts just right to keep the tub 1/8" off the apron. Very difficult to level with no access to those bolts because of the tub sitting inside the apron. That tub was in an out of the apron at least 10 times before we finally "settled". Then you have to try to run silicone between the two pieces Impossible to do the backside of the tub if it's not far enough away from the wall. Although we screwed the apron to the floor I would not say it is secured at all. I warned the customer not to sit on the edge of this tub I can see why others have complained that their tub cracking so soon after installation. Please do not buy this tub. Nothing but a headache Save your money

This is a poorly designed tub. It was so flimsy it cracked during the install process. This tub is made of two thin shells. Each shell is very weak on its on but together provide a somewhat rigid tub. Unfortunately the tub cracked before I could even get it installed. Don’t waste your money.

This tub is easy to install and the finish is very nice. The only problem was the front leveling bolts were not long enough. We replaced with a block of wood which was an easy fix and more stable. The tub is beautiful and very comfortable to relax in.

this is a very cheap tub. DON'T buy. freestanding is exactly what it is. I am taking it back due to the inability to attach it to the floor so it won't tip. please save yourself the headache. My plumber and contractor is having me to take it back due to no way to make this thing stable to the floor.

Beutiful Tub - but where's the drain kit?
I'm now in the process of installing this tub in my ensuite. It looks great, very attractive. My problem has been finding the appropriate drain kit for it. Reviewers state that unless you use Maax's F2 drain kit, the installation will be brutal. Great! So Home Depot - help me understand why you would sell the tub but not the right drain kit for it? No problem getting it from your competitors, though! Go figure!

I am sorry to have to write a negative review but trying to get this tub has been a real chore. I ordered and returned two of them through Home Depot online. Both tubs arrived with damage to the rim. You could not tell from the crates that there was any damage. Thankfully Home Depot is generous and prompt with a refund, but I think the manufacturer is at fault with either a weak fiberglass construction or poor packing. I then ordered a tub from the same manufacturer through a local plumbing supply house to see if cast acrylic was better. I had spoken to the MAAX reps over the phone and was willing to pay $500 more for the other type of tub but it is also rather cheap looking and only the base arrived instead of the whole tub. This has been now going on three months and is holding up me moving into my master bedroom/bathroom. So, no, I would not recommend this tub. If you manage to get one to arrive undamaged, you might not like the rough edge of the rim, which is unfinished. The photo shows what looks like a rolled detail, but the tub comes in two pieces and the transition from the liner to the base is rough and the edges are unevenly manufactured. So how the photo presents the tub is not exactly how it looks when you are about to get in. Buyer beware and if you order this tub, I hope your experience is better than mine.

O.K., this review is from a mechanical engineer with 30 years of design experience: Yeah, it's a cute, stylish looking tub. It will take an experienced plumber a good hour or more just to rough it in, and he will hate you for picking it out. And the easy drain MAAX ballyhoos will likely not meet anyone's plumbing code. A competitor of Home Depot does carry a MAAX drain kit for it, but that doesn't make it easy; it just makes it meet code. I would describe the installation process, but it would take many pages. The tub comes complete with 4 each 3/8" bolts for leveling it. No metal disc at the end of the bolt to spread out the weight (as you would find at the bottom of say, a stove); just 4 plain old steel bolt heads. Now picture those spindly steel ordinary bolt heads resting on your brittle porcelain tile. How long before the 300 or more pounds of people plus tub resting on 4 bolt heads crack that tile...and that assumes that the bolt heads are all flush with the tile surface (not a chance). Imagine the pounds/sq. inch force that the bolt edge exerts! O.K., if that weren't bad enough get this: the 2 inch bolts they give you are NOT long enough to clear the edge of the skirt by 1/8" (see the really horrible installation instructions). They will fall out of the wood threaded inserts before they ever reach that point. This means the inside of the tub will rest on the walls of the skirts, something the "instructions" warn against. I didn't want to go through a trial and error selection of another tub, so I bought $36.00 worth of pivoting 3/8" stud levelers with rubber padded discs to protect the tile. The levelers had 4" studs so they actually provided real support for the tub since they threaded fully into the threaded inserts (as opposed to falling out of them). Did I mention that one of the four wood blocks that holds those threaded inserts was so far off center that I had to remove the threaded insert, relocate and redrill the hole and reinstall the insert? Otherwise the disc of the new leveler would not clear the edge of the tub skirt. Unless you're really good at redesigning tub support structures (as I am) DO NOT BUY THIS TUB! Really. Don't buy it.

Horrible tub. Seemed like a good idea for a second floor bath since it was two parts. Was trying to make it easy for the plumber. My mistake. Under the edges of the rim where you would put your fingers has very, very sharp edges from exposed fiberglass. It is very cheap looking and poorly made. It did not help that it was installed crooked, not manufacture fault but makes it even more painful to look at. New construction but will now need it torn out and replaced.

                        Some instructions would be nice
This was a great price compared to other free standing tubs. But you would think that for the price it would include drain hardware and maybe instructions that weren't general for 4 different models. Spent far too much time trying to figure out what they wanted from bad diagrams of a totally different model. Drain kit had to be custom cut while the tub was upside down. You will need lots of clearance around the tub to caulk the edge after installation. Wooden blocks used for shipping were more securely attached than the legs making them difficult to pry off. The list goes on an on of things you need to figure out by trial and error. Not impressed and it's still not installed because the legs won't level easily.
