Works well, just like the original
It is my understanding that Southwire acquired the OEM of this tool, and it seems to be pretty much the same as the original, with the exception of the handle being black instead of blue. One thing that was a little disappointing was it is now Made in China, whereas the original was Made in USA for a long time. Performance wise and quality wise, it seems to be fine. It is a simple but powerful tool for pulling and winding wires using any drill whose chuck can fit the bit on the end. There are plenty of videos on YouTube showing how to use it, but pretty much any pro will be familiar with it. It is a useful tool to have and, fortunately, changing the handle color and COO does nothing to diminish its utility. Buy with confidence.

SPEEDS UP THE TASK-SOME MUSCLE STILL REQUIRED
This tool, intended to ease the task of wire pulls which do not justify setting up a fixed pulling rig, is generally well made and functionally performs its intended use. Requiring a drill motor with a really low controlled speed range as well as a precision “trigger finger” use of the tool should speed up the pulling of conductors but will still require some “muscle” to provide the reactive force to overcome the drag of the conductors being pulled. The instructions indicate to not use trigger locks on drill motors, to permit rapid release is the pull snags in the conduit, as it will quickly tend to reduce the distance between the tool and the point of egress of the tag line. No maintenance recommendations are included for bearing cleaning/lubrication, though it appears that access is possible with the removal of a C-clip at the handle end of the tool. The handle is quite comfortable to grip (with or without gloves) and encloses the above-mentioned bearing. Quickly moving the tool to wind the tag line over the full length of the winding sleeve will require some practice, to avoid “bunching up” of the tag line (see photo). The thumb screw (use to secure the drive cap to the shaft) is not of a “retained” construction. As this tool will probably spend time subject to vibration in transit, the use of a retained screw would alleviate that concern. Overall, this tool will not eliminate the need for some “muscle” on the part of the user but will certainly speed up the pulling of conductors.

Great Idea
Am I missing something, in the product detail, the last sentence says it “includes a spare line sleeve and pouch”. Also, the box says the same thing. According to the instructions the ‘line sleeve’ is the gray plastic piece the pull string winds around. I received the pouch and one line sleeve, not two. I took a piece of ¾” PVC schedule 40 water line and made a second one. The ID is a little bigger but it works fine, see pic. Other then that it seems pretty simple to use. Just make sure the pull string is attached to the drive cap as described in the instructions. Seems simple enough to use to me. I have an upcoming job that I’ll need to pull wire throw about 250’ of conduit. I should be able to do it by myself. The tool pouch is nice but I would rather have a hard case, I’m going to look for something. Not for average home owner.

Useful
The southwire power pull it tool is a very useful tool for pulling wire. I found it especially useful when pulling wire from my basement all the way up to the attic. You attach the tool to your power drill on a high torch, low speed setting and start pulling. The only downside is that this tool does have a bit if weight to it and snags can give you a big jerk .

Simple and effective drill-powered wire pulling tool
I requested this Southwire Power Pull-It Wire Pulling Tool from the Home Depot October Seeds campaign so that I would have a more effective and faster way to run new electrical wire through our home when we are ready to renovate our three upstairs bedrooms. Even though an electrical contractor supposedly replaced all the 2nd floor wiring before we bought our home, we discovered that they were definitely not following the electrical code. From interconnected fire alarms being on different circuits to neutral wires being coiled inside boxes, creating strong magnetic interference, the problems have required immediate replacement of wiring and circuit runs, so this tool will get a lot of use. I rated the tool 3 stars because the plastic sleeve is the kind of plastic that deteriorates quickly when exposed to UV and the hand grip should have been rubberized, not just plastic.

Power pull
I know a task is always easier having the proper tools. The older I get, the more I appreciate anything that makes my job easier. This tool saved you a lot of physical energy when you need to pull wire. Whether it be a small or large job this power pull really comes in handy and I was surprised at the simplicity of use. If you have a wiring job for new or redo job I recommend you check out this handy gadget. The storage bag is always nice for me because I can keep everything I need for a wiring job in one place. I dislike getting to a job and forgot a tool necessary to complete the job. The bag does help with organization.

A helpful, innovative tool
This is a great tool that will make pulling wire through conduit when using pull-string much faster and easier. The concept is very straight-forward. After blowing a pull string through the conduit and tying it to your wire, you tie a small loop in the pulling end of the sting. It wraps around the arbor of the tool with the knot going in a slot. Using a drill, you wind the pull-string on the arbor, quickly and easily pulling the wire through. When you get done the arbor detaches and you can remove the pull-string without having to unwind it. It even comes with a zippered carrying case with shoulder strap. This thing really works great.

interesting way to pull wire
This is a difficult tool to use unless you are a electrician or have had previous experience with this tool. Even with included instructions this takes some figuring out on how to use it. I would recommend that this tool be used by a professional and not the average home owner. This tools does come with a handy carrying case for it and the tool attaches to a 18v drill.

Madison Electric Power Pull-It – This item is chucked in a cordless drill or electric drill to quickly and easily pull jet line through conduit, it can also be used to pull small gauge wire in conduit rather than pulling by hand…This item is well machined from aluminum and steel, the fit and finish is excellent, no sharp points or edges…I tested this item pulling jet line in ½” PVC conduit, ¾” PVC conduit and 1” PVC conduit…I also pulled #14 THHN solid, #12 THHN solid and #10 THHN stranded, my conduit runs were less than 100’, this item performed as indicated, intended and expected without any problems…Pulling jet line only the rate if pull was speed selector #2 and full speed on an Milwaukee M18 hammer drill / driver drill…Pulling jet line with #14 THHN, #12 THHN and #10 THHN was speed selector 1, using the variable speed trigger to slow the drill as more wire was entering the conduit…Overall the use of this tool is faster and easier than pulling jet line or jet line with conductors attached than by hand…Every tool has limitations, therefore I would not attempt to pull any wire size lager than #10 THHN stranded…The OEM package indicates a carry bag and spare jet line plastic spool are included, my package included the carry bag, however no spare jet line plastic spool was included…The OEM package and instructions does not indicate a warranty period, however I would believe the warranty is at least 1 year…

Southwire's Power Pull-It tool meets a special need very well. Pulling wire is work, at least after your first pull! It is a balance of pulling evenly and storing the line that is pulled so you don't create a rat's nest during the effort. This clever tool addresses both of these tasks, and can reduce hand injuries and fatigue at the same time. The tool is very heavy and the roller bearings can be felt when you manually turn the shaft. The heaviness of the metal together with bearings will have this tool around for a long time. You do not need to anchor this tool, in that one end goes into your drill and you hold the other end at the handle. This gives you plenty of options in tight spots. After hooking the string onto one end of the sleeve, you use the power of your drill (in manual mode) to pull the string onto the sleeve where it nicely coils itself. Once done, you can remove the sleeve and store the string on it or slide the string off of it. The 1-page directions with photos are helpful and very clear. There is a tool pouch with strap that is included, which is super as most tools these days no longer come with any type of storage. Oddly, the box says an extra plastic sleeve is included (only one is provided on the tool); neither the website nor the instructions say 2 sleeves are included. This is a well-made product that can help speed up a tedious manual task.

The Southwire pulling tool is very well made. I am using it to pull wire through conduit underground from my house to my barn and it is working well. I also plan to use it to wind and unwind string in the building of fences on my property. It is easier if two people use it together as it tends to pull out of your hands on with just one person. This product has a one year warranty.

The southwire tool's power pull, (cable puller) is a great tool and deserves a spot in all electrician tool arsenal. The tool is pretty simple in design and use. You simply tie a knot and loop in the holder then simply attach it to any drill and start pulling your cable. The tool is very well design and crafted to take the abuse it will go through. The tool is all aluminum construction with comfortably hand hold to help support and give some resistance to the puller power.

Works very well
This is meant to help pull wire through horizontal conduit. I was skeptical at first, I mean its not hard to pull a string. However, after using it for several runs while finishing my basement I am hooked. Connect it to w wireless drill and it pulls wires through quickly and easily. On bigger jobs it really does save fatigue. And its kinda fun, if I am being perfectly honest.

Could this be anymore of a useless tool? A 2' section of pipe accomplishes the same result for $1.

Have pulled a few thousand feet of wire (14/2 solid and stranded, 18/2 solid and some specialty wire) through rigid and EMT. The tool performs as advertised, use beyond the ratings ar your own risk as it can damage the tool. Wire pulling lube helps greatly and you just pull the trigger and wait for your wire to show up.
