The only way I could be more pleased with my step lights would be if the covers matched the rest of the cover plates in the theater room. I was able to make them kinda match by popping the glass off of the back with a flat head screwdriver, spraying them with oil rubbed bronze spray paint and sticking the glass back to the double sided tape. I had to use an extra deep box for these as the back side is pretty big and if you have two wires coming into the box everything wont fit into a standard size box. The light is the perfect amount to light up the steps on my risers and not distract from the TV screen.

NICOR STP LED Step Light, 1.2 Watts is a simple way of accenting deck steps for front and rear entrances. By installing a gang box for each light and wiring them in a series the soft white light highlights the entrances. The unit is provided with two face plates to install either vertically or horizontally and they can be painted to compliment your step color.

Ordered on line for in store pickup. Light has photo cell but no hole through cover plate. Tested before installation. DOA. Does not work.Returning to store.

I rarely give a really bad review but this light definitely has its challenges. First, this unit fits incredibly snug in the jbox taking up all the space available. Because I was installing this in a new jbox for existing construction (little blue tabs that swing out and tighten down on the sheetrock) that sticks out a hair from the wall already, by the time I screwed the plate down over this snug unit, there was a 1/8 inch gap between it and the wall. Trying to push it further back into box only managed to break the sheetrock. I finally pulled the jbox, Dremeled down the tabs in the jbox to allow the unit to go back further into the box and remounted it after reinforcing the sheetrock around it. The ears on the unit, that you screw to the jbox, are flimsy and bend easily Add to that the face plate does not use a standard faceplate screw but instead uses one about half the size in diameter, and getting those tiny holes and tiny screws lined up after the ears have bent turns out to be a tougher job than it has to be. Whichever engineer thought it would be a good idea to make a tiny, custom, nonstandard screw for the faceplate obviously has never installed one before. You also need to be sure not to sit this tiny screw down on carpet because it will disappear with little hopes of finding it. Lastly, despite the fact that this is the newer replacement for the older version, the light color does not match and of course the smaller screws don't match the others either. Overall, the last version was much better. Maybe this would work well with new construction and buying all of them at the same time but what should have been a 5 minute project consumed almost an hour of time to get it installed and it doesn't match the others.
