I don't know why there are any positive reviews of this product. Simply put, this product is very sticky and has lots of tar, but won't compress or set. No matter what you do, you can always push your finger through it or feel it move under your feet. When the sun comes out, it gets softer. I did a test on this product. I poured three different 1" thick areas. 1st area. I added sand on top and poured cold water on it to try to get it to harden. Failed. 2nd area. I added liquid tar to the mix. Failed 3rd area. I heated it with a torch to get it to set. Failed. On the bag it says it is DOT approved, but when I called the company, he said it is not. I finally got my repaired area to stiffen up by pouring pure cement in water on the finished area. That did help it to feel somewhat solid, like I could drive on it without leaving a tire mark. I filed a complaint with Home Depot requesting they not sell this product. I did get a full refund. I miss the old asphalt mixes that actually had some VOC's in them so they could cure hard. DEQ is focusing on this small market, why not focus on the main road repair industry instead?

PROBLEM: The installation of 12 bags of commercial grade blacktop repair 50lb bags was on July 23, 2015. I have pot holes ranging from 1 inch deep to 3 inches deep and 1 foot wide to 4 foot wide variations (I have included pictures and videos below). Even the small cracks less than 1 inch deep that I filled and tamped have not hardened. I put plywood down and drove over it with my truck as per the instructions on the back of the package for tamping. After a week of not hardening I had a Quickcrete representative John Landis come out and tell me that it’s unusually soft and it "should set up in 48 hours”. His manager John Meyer called and told me that “it takes 3 months to set up because it’s hot out”. I was not satisfied with that answer so I then asked to speak with his manager Eric Shultz. He proceeded to tell me that the material would not set up if the edges were not cut. He also told me that if the hole is 4 feet wide instead of 3 feet wide that it would not set up. Yet another excuse was that they changed their formula to a vegetable formula because of EPA standards and it takes longer to set up now. I asked Eric if there was a possibility that this product was defective and he told me “Absolutely not... Quickcrete has never had a defective product”. I find his statement hard to believe… After hearing one excuse and lie after another with no resolve to my problem I returned this item to home depot on 8/11/15 because Quickcrete would not return the material. The job was dirty and costly to clean up and took up a lot of my time. At this point 19 days later it was still soft enough to scoop with a spoon. The worst part of this is after speaking with 3 different representatives and managers (John Landis, John Meyer, and Eric Shultz) at Quickcrete they were completely rude unhelpful with any type of customer resolve. They did nothing but blame me for not installing it improperly, which I did not… RESOLVE: As I told the reps, my resolve was to have someone clean up the defective product, give me my money back and install a product that will set in a reasonable time frame (48 hours). Since the amount of time they took up arguing with them, I don’t think this was an unreasonable request. I have also constructed a 2 x 2 square box with one inch of the tamped material I am using as a control substance in order to test how long this product actually takes to set. I will be posting this complaint and findings on my social media as well as multiple online review search engines to document this horrible customer service from Quickcrete representatives. I have included pictures and video of this product below.

I used this two separate times over the last month. I used the blacktop repair to fill in sunken areas of my walkway and to patch up holes on my driveway. All of this is in preparation to put a sealcoat over the blacktop later this summer. I spoke with a manufacturer technical representative before I started the project. From their perspective this is only suited to be filled into a "hole" that is covered on all four sides. As you can see in my walkway picture that was not a possibility for me since there is no "fixed" side on the grass. I started anyway and had little issues with the exposed edge of the blacktop repair. I understand why they take this perspective because the exposed edges can fall apart if you are not careful. I found that if you pound it in place hard enough and avoid stepping on the edges you will be fine. After a number of days the edges are set and will not crumble if they are walked on.

I did a 10X2 foot section on my driveway entrance where it joins the street,the stuff came out of sack easy,poured where I wanted it. I smoothed it out with the back of my rake,tamped it with a 8 lb tamper,used my truck with a piece of 3/4 plywood rolled on top and compressed it, easy as pie. A few rocks stick to my to my tires but nothing major.Big improvement on my drive entrance.

I read the reviews before I bought this patch and almost didn't buy it but, the cost compared to the competitors was so much less I had to try it. And, I'm glad I did. So far so good. In the photo I used a total of 17 bags, two of which were leftover from a competitors purchase from last year. I didn't even think they would be any good but they were. Anyway, these Quikrete bags were very easy to empty out and hardly any mess at all. The other brand is messy messy. Quikrete actually dumps out in one clump. Of course it's stiff and takes work to move around but, all in all, a decent patch. I didn't quite follow the directions like I was supposed to do. As you can see (maybe) is that it tapers out onto the drive instead of filling a hole. All this was laid on top of existing clean asphalt, albeit very low. I did follow instructions about how much to lay on the first application. Lay, tamp, run over and lay some more. Worked like a charm. For those who were griping about it not setting up, well, it takes time. The competitors took time to set also and you can see the end result of that in the photo. The diagonal strip on the right above the new stuff is the old stuff I laid a few years ago. I never thought it would set up either but it's hard as a rock. I'm sure this will do the same. It's no problem driving on it and nothing is sticking to the tires. I can even walk on it with no problems. Just make sure you tamp it down good and drive on it. I really think this is the right stuff for the money. If it fails to set or it just doesn't last before breaking up, I'll be back to complain. Otherwise, check it out.............

I used two bags to fill in a dip in my driveway. I put a board over it so we could drive over it without tracking the sticky stuff around, and within two days it was solid. It looks nice too. I'm going to keep buying it a few bags at a time to repair a very long driveway with lots of cracks.

Used this to patch the space between garage and driveway. It spread perfectly. Wasn't a very hot day out side, and this stuff was very easy to work with. It also tamped down quite well. If you are looking to fill in some cracks in the asphalt, then this is the stuff to buy. Can be very sticky, so use gloves and treat tools with some sort of oil beforehand.

I filled several areas. Some smaller potholes and deep cracks and one very large pothole. The smaller potholes and cracks were also located in an area that gets full sun. The large pothole was located near the garage and is in full shade. I filled the holes during the fall. 78 degrees during the day around 55 at night. If you plan to fill smaller potholes located in the sun your holes should be fairly dry within 2 weeks. However, if you plan to fill a larger pothole or are in a mostly shaded area you will need more like a month-6 weeks for this product to cure. I also covered the pothole near our garage with plywood so it wouldn't track which may have delayed the process a bit but was absolutely necessary. This product if put down in an area where your family walks a lot or drives will destroy your flooring inside and garage. You have to be diligent about either covering it or making sure noone walks on it. To be honest I didn't expect it to take so long to cure but the size of the one pothole was larger than what this product is normally used for. I'm please with the results for now. We'll see after the winter. I have since sealed it with latexite sealer and it looks great. It has a rough appearance but next year I may trowel patch over it to smooth it out some.

Patched a dirt and weed filled 25 ft. stretch between my old asphalt driveway and my neighbor's concrete driveway. Followed the instructions, used an 8x8 hand tamper and had no problems. One of the reviews I read before buying talked about it sticking, so i sprayed the tamper with some Boeshield T-9 that I use in my woodworking shop and had no sticking problems> However, if you're doing a big job, hand tamping may leave your hands weak and shaky at the end. This is the second time I've use it this summer. First patch was tacky for a couple of weeks but is fine now. And HD quickly and easily accepted return of the three bags I didn't use.

Used it to repair broker concrete driveway going uphill to a summer cabin. Does a good job without a lot of work

When the town put sidewalks in they messed up my driveway. Many people just put a new driveway in but i could not afford that so i purchased a few bags of Quikrete put them down and everything looks good. Prep is fairly easy as i burned all the weeds, then yanked out the debris. Pressure washed everything to get rid of the dirt. I left some of the old broken tar in place. Tamped the new stuff down. I did not use a squeegee, I used a flat metal tool that i use to break up ice to move it around. I will use it again.
