DO NOT BUY THIS. JUNK. I have taught wood shop for the past 30 years . I purchased 24 sanders for both of our high schools. I put out 6 sanders in each school for my students to use in late October and by early December all of them failed. The issue is that they will not hold sandpaper. The pad is poor quality, but the clamping bar encased in rubber wears out within days. WILL NOT HOLD SANDPAPER Stay away from this sander.

I put out 6 sanders for my students to use in October and by early December all of them failed. The issue is that they will not hold sandpaper. When you place the sandpaper into the sander and begin sanding the paper comes out of the sander within seconds. No matter what I do it will not hold the paper. I contacted Ridgid and explained the situation. They said that this was normal and that the pad needed to be replaced due to normal wear and tare. My last set of sanders were Porter-Cable. I used these for about 15 years and never had to replace the pad. Other than old age they were awesome. Rigid basically told me that I am stuck with these sanders. They are willing to repair them but this is going to happen again. Their solution is for me to bring the sanders in for repair every 2 months I purchased a lot of Ridgid tools over the years and I never had an issue. They are normally reliable and trustworthy. Not his product. Stay away from this sander.

Purchased a new Makita sheet sander but took it back as the sheet feeding was too exacting, you really had to align the paper but this Rigid allows you to slide it in and release and it is tight and ready to GO! Added bonus is that it is extra quiet for a sander. Warranty is problematic as you have to navigate a web site that is not secure/not well defined so I said F it, hopefully it will last.

Does not hold sandpaper securely, plastic clip get worn away by sandpaper. Need to get new parts.

It's a little loud but I love it . I wish I could have found a cordless one for the price i got this one but oh well it works great and does the job I needed it for.

Awful design. When your are holding it, you keep hitting the on/off button because of their location at the head of sander. I returned it.

This sander I bought on a whim. I don’t regret it. Only complaint would be the foam pads corners seem to wear out fairly quickly.

I returned it and bought the Dewalt Pros: 1) Attaches directly to the rigid shop vac using car accessory hose. 2) Nice quality carrying case. Cons: 1) On/Off switch is in a bad location. I kept accidentally turning the unit off when using it. 2) Front sand paper retaining clip has to be pulled out making it difficult to load sheets. 3) If you bump the dust collection back during use, dust blows out around the bags mounting collar. Needs to have a rubber "O" ring or gasket.

I used it and it worked perfect for my needs.

I've owned this sander for several years now. Used it COUNTLESS times. Just now replacing the pad. I've owned several pneumatic jitterbugs and another 1/3 sheet electric unit. This little guy works great. I like the 1/4 sheet size for my bad wrist. Keeps the unit light. I highly recommend it.

I have many Ridgid products and generally like them. This sander is the exception. The on/off buttons are in a poor position, it heats up very quickly, the pad wore out on me and I was told by Home Depot that replacements were not available? (ended up going with a third party supplier that works no better), and the front clip will not hold paper. Mine is in the garbage now after it stopped working completely.

Unfortunately this one gets hot quickly.

Overall this is a great sander and has a great dust collection system. The downside is that the sandpaper sticks to the pad when it gets hot (clogged sandpaper). This can be minimized by using talc powder btw pad & paper. Also wire paper holder bends easily allowing sandpaper to slip.

The unit performs above expectations, gets the job done to my satisfaction.

After very limited use (at seasonal cottage) the front clip will not hold the sandpaper in place. This failure renders the sander useless. If it were not for this weak link, it would be a very good sander. It's a shame such a simple component makes this otherwise good product useless and headed for the landfill. Ridgid needs to correct this design flaw.

not as powerful as i thought

Bought this a few years ago and worked great for a period of time. Now its sets on the shelf. Won't hold sand paper anymore. Not worth fighting it. May try replacing rubber strip but it will wear out again.

Works great as a 1/4 sheet sander and love the carrying case. The front clip is a little tough to release, but holds the paper tight.
