    Absolute Joke
This unit will break after a month of use. The low price is a ploy to get you to buy the batteries which are twice as expensive. Customer service is abysmal and will not repair or replace this, despite their legally binding 3-year warrantee. Do not buy this or any RYOBI products.

      Just what I needed
This Ryobi soldering iron (PCL946) is great for the crafting table. I love that it has a variable heat setting. Glad it comes with a bit of solder, but It's not labeled. No clue what type or if needs flux or what temp to use. After a bit of experimenting it melted at the 550 degree mark. Luckily I also had some other solder to use. It melts at 400 and that's the lowest setting on this tool. I needed this tool to solder some jump rings, got a handful done in a short period of time. Very happy with the ease of use for this tool.

Very impressive soldering iron with adjustable temperature control
After using a 110v corded soldering iron for so many years I was wanting to find one that was less tethered. In the past I have tried using a butane one and another using AA batteries and found both ultra portable but difficult to control the temperature. First, I am invested in the Ryobi 18V One+ system and own several of the tools and batteries. In the box along with the soldering iron is an instruction manual and a sample section of solder. I snapped in a 4ah battery, which creates a very solid and stable base. The variable temperature control on this to be excellent, ranging from 400 up to 900 degrees F and the power output of 120w. There is an LED light beneath the temperature know that flashes while warming up and turns to solid when the temperature is reached. I found the soldering iron reached temp very quickly, getting to 450 degrees F in under a minute and melted the .062 inch solder quickly with the fine tip. I could see where having an adjustable temperature control comes in handy depending on the diameter of the solder. Though the iron has a fairly thin 3 foot long power cord it is very flexible and didn't get in the way. The built-in coiled holder is great for keeping the iron tip safely protected to prevent burns and off the work surface. Upon turning the iron off the LED will continue to pulse letting you know the iron is still hot and will stop when the cooled down. Overall, this is a very impressive soldering iron with the adjustable temp and look forward using for a myriad of projects. It comes with a 3-year manufacture's warranty.

      Perfect for automotive use
This is a fantastic soldering iron made by Ryobi. I love the temperature control and how securely the stand holds the soldering iron. The tip performs well. I received using a larger capacity battery such as 4 AH if you are going to be soldering for awhile as this is a 120w soldering iron. One thing that could use improvement is the flexibility of the wire connecting the iron to the base. It is pretty stiff however I was easily able to work around it.

      Perfect for what I need
I'll be honest here, I use a soldering iron like 2 or 3 times a year, for a really quick repair job. I don't need anything more than a basic tool, and this one works great. It's self contained. I don't need to hunt around for parts. It's battery operated so I don't need to find a spot to plug it in, and it has a holder for the hot iron so I don't need to rest it on a granite tile until it cools. I can control the temp (to an extent) and change the tips. It heats up quickly - in a bout a minute in my experience, and cools down quickly as well. It's fairly small and doesn't take up a lot of space on the shelf.

      Beats other options
The RYOBI ONE+ 18V Cordless 120-Watt Soldering Iron Topper (Tool Only) is precisely what I need for portable convenience. Much of the work I do must be done on-site so getting a corded soldering iron where it's needed can be a challenge. I usually end up using a butane soldering iron but they can be undependable and the gas makes me a little nervous in confined spaces. The Ryobi eliminates the problems and does a great job. I appreciate that I can adjust the temperature to match the job; a feature typically found on better quality soldering irons. I already have several other Ryobi cordless tools so I like that I can save a few dollars by getting the "tool only" version and avoid having yet another charger that will get stored away never to be used. I have no complaints about this tool, it does what it is designed to do and does it well. The only thing I would change is I wish it included a battery. Not getting an unneeded charger is great but you can never have too many batteries.

      Powerful soldering iron
This portable RYOBI battery-powered soldering item came in handy when I had to fix an electric wire on my car engine. It uses the standard RYOBI ONE+ battery system and can easily heat up with the smallest 2.0 Ah battery. However, if you need to have it last longer, put in the 6.0 Ah battery. A dial lets you choose the amount of heat you need and a switch shuts off the heat entirely. A blinking red light comes on when heating AND stays on solid until the iron cools down.

      Great tool
I have had many a solder iron. Most you set down to line up the next spot to solder and the wand burns the worktable or rolls off the worktable to try to burn you. This one has a place to put the wand so that it does neither of those things. It has a nice point to be able to make solder welds on a small object. On top of all that it is one plus battery powered, no cords.

      Ridiculously high powered, efficient
Ok, so I thought there was no possible way an 18v soldering iron could ever compete with my 120 V soldering irons that I’ve been using for decades. Holy cow was I glad to be wrong. This thing does exactly as advertised and hits 800+ degrees in under 60 seconds. For a test, I attempted to solder together two 12 AWG wires extensions for my XT 60 connector. I build/convert electric utility vehicles as a hobby so I’m constantly using 12 and 10 gauge wire, and thicker. I’m not even exaggerating when I say this thing beat the pants off of my 120 V 900° soldering iron. It heated up the copper so fast that I was able to soak up a ton of solder into the connections for a super strong joint, much faster than my 120 V iron could. I was absolutely taken aback at this thing’s heating capability off a one+ 4aH battery. I estimated I could do probably 14 to 16 connectors with that level of consistent heat, and still have enough juice left for a couple more. This soldering iron has no right to be so effective, but it absolutely is. Do not hesitate to grab this when in stock, it will quickly replace(or supplement)your 120v iron for portability and power.

      Heats up quickly
This RYOBI PCL946B 120W soldering iron comes with the tool, a small amount of solder and a soldering tip. It does not include a battery or charger. It is compatible with RYOBI ONE+ 18v batteries. It features an adjustable temperature dial that ranges from 400 to 900 degrees Fahrenheit. There is an LED light below the dial that indicates when the unit is cooling down, when it is heating up and when it has reached the selected temperature. RYOBI claims it will come up to temperature in 90 seconds. For my testing, I set it to 500 degrees and it came up to temp in less than 90 seconds. I also like the tool-less tip change system. While I like the taller design compared to other RYOBI models, I should note there is no place for a wiping sponge with this base. It only has the coil for holding the hot iron. The wire between the base and the iron is only 3 feet which I think might be limiting in some situations. However, the portability of this unit is where it shines. Not being tethered to a power cord is very beneficial in a number of scenarios. During testing, it worked similarly to 120v soldering irons.

      Cordless Soldering Iron
This Ryobi cordless soldering iron is such a pleasure to use. It is so far above the old school corded soldering irons of the past. It has an led light that indicates when the tip is ready for use based on the temperature setting anywhere from 400 to 900 degrees. It also lets you know when the tip is cool enough to touch and has a coil holder so that you do not have to worry about anything getting accidentally burned by laying the iron down. I love that you can carry it anywhere, so that you can solder things in place, and not be constrained by needing an outlet nearby. It also comes with a small coil of solder to get you started. The battery and charger are extra, but since we have many Ryobi tools we always have a fresh supply of charged batteries ready to use. Love it! A great little tool!!

      Great Tool!
The RYOBI ONE+ 18V Cordless 120-Watt Soldering Iron is an excellent portable tool. Many times I am need to solder a connection on my vehicle or in the yard and previously would have to run extension cords and carry a plug-in solder iron to do the job. Now this portable battery powered unit does the job and simplifies my life! It heats up very quickly and solders gerat. The temperature control is great. I usually set it for 700° F or 750° F and it works perfectly. The LED will blink rapidly while heating up, and glow steadily once it reaches temperature. When you shut it off, the LED will blink slowly for 10 minutes until the tip is cool. It even includes some solder to get you started. The only negative is there is no sponge or provision for holding a sponge for tip cleaning. Overall, a great tool!

      Convenient + Control
The Ryobi One+ 18v "Cordless" soldering iron give you the portability of a cordless soldering iron with the temperature control of a benchtop unit. I call this "cordless" in quotes because, while you don't have to plug it in the wall, the wand is most certainly corded. I own a butane-fueled cordless soldering iron, and while it is certainly more compact than this unit, it's hit-or-miss in getting the temperature correct. This Ryobi gives you all the temperature control of a benchtop unit while still being portable enough to use anywhere. Bonus, replacement tips are widely available as they are the same size as a T18-series soldering iron.

      Will not last
I have owned this piece of junk for about a year. Maybe used it three times. It will not heat up. The battery works in other Ryobi tools I have. Now I am wondering when the rest of the Ryobi products I own will stop working.

Battery failed 2nd time I used it
I've previously used butane soldering irons when away from a work bench, but figured I'd try this. First use, seemed to work pretty well (if a little awkward compared to a butane iron) but second use, it quit after a minute or two and wouldn't turn back on. I had purchased a spare battery when I purchased this, so I was able to finish my job but when I tried to charge the first battery, the charger flashed an error rather than charging.
