Disappointed in lack of instructions.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wish I had read the reviews before buying this product because like the others said it is likening in the instructions department. My wife needed up finding the QR code on the set itself that said go here for instructions and video and guess what it doesn’t take you there at all. I like your products, but this is very disappointing and frustrating. I still can’t find a video or instructions. You think with all these bad reviews the company would have addressed these issues instead of leaving the consumer frustrated and looking at other companies.

Hello, Hawaiian paradise - We're sorry to hear that you've had a frustrating experience with this wood door lock installation kit! Poorly made
Unfortunately this product is junk. The hole saw burnt/ate the black plastic pieces on the guide. Home depot should be giving refunds.

Makes drilling door knob holes easy accurate
The hole jig makes it very easy and accurate to drill the 2 holes for the main large door knob/deadbolt unit as well as the plunger bolt. Once you have determined the location on the door for each unit fasten the Ryobi jig with 2 small screws. Carefully drill the main center hole until you can no longer penetrate. Then move to the other side of the door to finish drilling out the hole. The hole is drilled from both sides to avoid splinting wood from the door. If you don't have a hollow hole saw to drill the 1" bolt assembly use a small bit to penetrate 1/4 inch into the door. Use the spade bit guide to prevent drilling to deep. Then use the 1" flat drill to drill out the hole for the plunger assemblies. I could not figure out how to use the auto strike locator. Before installing the door knob or dead bolt assemblies I closed the door against the frame work. Then with the door closed I used a major marker inside the plunger bolt hole to draw a circle on the door frame. Drilled a 1" hole, 1' deep in the, where the frame was marked for the striker plate. Installed the striker plates and the door knobs and dead bolts worked perfectly......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Couldn’t handle a hollow core door
I ordered a Milwaukee and it was out. Begrudgingly I was forced to purchase ryobi… I know better but I was backed into a corner. I needed to get the door handles in. Set up=fine. Put the drill bit in and it spun. We tried tightening the bolt and it didn’t matter. The cheap proprietary drill bit had stripped where the bolt tights the hole saw so there is no way to actually tighten it. It made it this far into the door before it got stuck. So much swearing and no door handles in. Garbage

The bit broke before I could even finish drilling the first hole. Do not recommend.

My neighbor lady wanted to learn how to install a door lock on a new door she purchased. I saw this as a perfect opportunity to teach her and this tool made it so much easier than the old method of measure, cut and chisel. So we got started today and it went very well, it cut the lock into the door with ease. She absolutely fell in love with the product. She did it all herself with minimal instruction from me...

I had several doors in my basement that I replaced because of flooding. The door lock installation kit came well after I started the work, but I decided to replace a pull handle with a locking knob because that's where I keep some expensive tools. The kit would have benefited from metal construction because the plastic seems flimsy. But my main complaint is with the printed instructions - there were too few pics to demonstrate the written instruction. In my opinion, there should be one pic per instruction so I wouldn't potentially drill a mistake into the wooden door. It took forever to realize that with this kit you need to put the strike in first - I've always done that last!. However, on the plus side, they included everything you need.

I have a large number of Ryobi tools and accessories so I thought I would try this kit. I must admit that the hardest thing using it was getting it our of that packaging! After I fought with the plastic for 30 minutes, the kit was intuitive to set up and easy to use. The jig is easy to align and drilling the hole is easy and fast. I tried it on a variety of door types and it performed as advertised. Just be careful when using it with doors that have glass as the vibrations can a little excessive, although that could have been my drilling style rather than the tool itself. Overall, it is good value for money.

Overall I liked this product, but the biggest issue for me was that it was made of mostly lightweight plastic. Normally this wouldn't bother me as much but this plastic is pretty flexible and flimsy feeling. For something as important as installing a door lock I wanted something much beefier and sturdy. It will do the job, but for the money I will look for something more sturdy next time.

It is a good idea, but there is room for improvements. First I would make the door lock bracket a little larger so there would be an area or two to clamp it to the door. Second thing I would change is the hole saw and arbor. The hole saw and arbor are not threaded like the better ones and may be difficult to find a replacement hole saw. Also the better grade hole saws are deeper and some manufacturers even make a deep single tooth carbide hole saw that will go all the way through the door. I know this would significantly raise the cost so if you are going to install a door lock on very rare occasions this is better than nothing, but if you are going to do it often, I would consider see what other kits are available.

The Ryobi door lock installation kit comes with everything you need to install a lockset in any door, it is adjustable to thick and thin doors and guides you through the door straight. you get a hole saw for the handle hole and a paddle bit for the striker which is centered and guided to the handle hole. The guide assembly can be screwed to the door so you can work on a hanging door and it will align the striker plate for you. my complete assembly took no more than 15 minutes so it really speeds things up.

Good quality door lock drilling guide! I selected the Ryobi door lock installation kit for an upcoming project I have where I will be making a solid wood entry door. Never having done any kind of work on doors, I am not sure what to expect, or what I will need. The door lock kit arrived well packaged. This kit has a bunch of parts, drill bits, hole saws, and adjustable shims built right into the template tool. Everything fits together nicely and has a quality feel to it. The instruction sheet is clear and easy to read. The only part that gave me a bit of hassle was the guide for the spade bit. It FEELS almost like there should be another piece there. I found that the guide wanted to wander and chatter a bit. I believe that prior generations of this tool used a hole saw; which seems like a safer option, even if more expensive to produce. If you are like me and new to building or hanging doors, I would recommend before taking on a door project that you do a little research, watch some videos on how to use these tools properly, and find a good solid piece of wood to practice on. Better to learn how to use the tool on scrap wood than on a few hundred bucks of door.

This is a very nice door handle set to own, when you need it, it will perform like it states. There is some measuring and set up needed but everything you need is in this kit. From the saw blade to the adjustable template you'll need to cut your door handle hole. I find this jig easy to set up and very ease to use with a little time to understand how it works.

This kit by Ryobi is for wood doors only. The plastic parts seem sturdy and the directions are fairly in-depth. I tend to think that this is not a beginner type project. You will need some woodworking experience or some experience installing door locks. I would want to practice on some lumber of the appropriate size before using it on a door since the cost of failure is high. Check out some videos of door lock installations on Youtube to understand the process. Make sure that your door width is one of the two sizes mentioned on the package ( 1 3/8 or 1 3/4) Also, make sure the lock set that you choose has either a 2 3/8 or 2 3/4 backset. You will need the Ryobi Door Latch Installation Router Guide to make the indentation on the door edge for the latch plate. It's interesting that neither kit talks about how to install the strike plate (part on the door frame that receives the door latch). In my experience, this is the most frustrating part of the door lock installation process. I gave this 4 stars because this is a quality product, but might be too technical for the average homeowner.

Overall this is a pretty handy tool. It makes boring for a latch set on a wooden door easy, fast, and accurate. As far as boring for the latch set .assembly, this is pretty straightforward. The included adapter makes it very easy to adapt to both common backset sizes simply by reversing the position of the included adapter. Boring for the latch, however, is a little more tricky and the reason I give this product key four star rating rather than a five. It comes only with a 1 inch spade bit and a guide to make it work in the tool. The problem with this setup is that if the door is not laying on edge with you drilling down, the guide will walk out of the tool making it useless. I would rather see a 1-inch hole saw included with this that would use the same mandrel as the 2 1/8” in latch set hole saw.

            Absolutely horrible
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Absolutely horrible product. As others have indicated, the instructions are terrible and make no sense. I scanned the QR code that Ryobi provided below but it was for a different product with parts my kit didn’t have. I would’ve returned it but I’d bought it in March for a project I just now got to. I thought I could make it work but it messed up my brand new door so I now have to patch it. In hindsight I should’ve went out and bought a competitor’s product. It would’ve been better to lose the money rather than be left with a butchered-up door. I would stay away from Ryobi for this type of product.

A solid gig for drilling into a variety of doors. The only criticism is that there is a spade bit for drilling the smaller hole, and I prefer a circular, rotary bit. But the spade does the job.

The installation kit worked very well, and was definitely work the cost. For less than $20 it is a terrific value. Since it is plastic, I’m not sure how long it will last. I was able to cut holes for 4 locks and it is still working well.
