AMAZING PRODUCT
I used two clear coat for my two car garage and it’s amazing how shiny and thicker the layer. Make sure to prep and take your time when applying. I had to used two coats because my flakes ate most of the first coat. After waiting for few hours and reapplied the second, the epoxy and flakes popped. It looked wet but it was just shiny. Highly recommend this product

If you used Rustoleum Expoxy Shield to paint/coat your garage floor, this extra step is well worth the $100, especially since you've already done the all the prep work. It dries clear and hard and adds an extra layer of protection. Three recommendations: (1) the 90-ounce kit was just enough to cover my 400 square feet, so plan ahead; (2) you only need to use about half the gripper sand; (3) have a helper (or use a flashlight) to survey your work as you go since it's sometimes hard to see where you've spread or if you missed any spots. Great product!

Does not cover as much as advertised. Looks great!
I applied this clear coat over a fresh coat of gray EpoxyShield in my 3-stall (standard dimension) garage. The box and instructions say one kit will cover 500SF. I would disagree with this. I feel like I put it on pretty thin and I ended up needing one kit per stall. Its super easy to apply and looks amazing. Its crazy expensive though. Just make sure you buy enough to get the job done.

Great Product, You Can Do It!!!
NOTE: Review below includes info about the epoxy kit as well. So there's a lot of negative reviews for this product. But I believe if you follow the EXACT instructions provided, namely application temperature and cure times you will be OK. Purchased one of these kits for my garage, it's a standard two car garage about 400-450 sq ft and i had about a little less than half a bag left over. Here were my steps and at the bottom of the steps, I put in some lessons learned where I screwed up. My Steps: 1. Clear out your garage. Like many have said, the prep work is the most time consumed. I removed everything off the floor. Including a GE water softener which wasn't too bad, although it was a little tricky figuring out where to disconnect the water softener (see LL#1). 2. Once the garage cleared, I swept it out. Then checked to see if it was sealed. Since rustoleam warns the epoxy may not adhere properly to a sealed floor. My garage is about <4 years old and had no existing coating. However the builder did "seal" it. There's youtube videos on how to check if your garage floor is sealed, you basically put a drop of water on the concrete and if it beads up and doesn't get sucked into the concrete after 1-2 min, then you know it's sealed. Didn't seem like my floor was that sealed when I did this test but i decided to power wash it anyways. 3. Borrowed a Subaru 3100 psi powerwasher from a friend. And using the GREEN nozzle (25 degrees) powerwashed out the floor (see LL#2). Then I applied the Rustoleam Concrete Etch and Cleaner (sold seperately in one gallon containers) to 10'x10' sections at a time (see LL#3) and scrubbed HARD with a good stiff bristled deck scrubber (see LL #4). Then I hose rinsed each 10'x10' section at a time (you don't want the etcher to dry on the concrete). Then I powerwashed the garage floor again. Then I squeegeed the garage. Highly recommended you get a squeegee so you get the most water out and it doesn't extend your dry time. They are sold at HD too. So to summarize this process was: powerwash>scrub>rinse>powerwash>squeegee 4. Prep the garage. One user had a tip to make sure you crack open your garage slightly open before applying epoxy to be able to apply epoxy to the part of the garage floor under the garage door seal. AND to prevent the garage door from pulling off the epoxy afterward. I put two golf balls in the tracks on either side of the garage door to give me about a 1” clearance. Then on the outside of the garage I duct taped some plastic sheets (trash bags) over the gaps to prevent debris and bugs from getting into the garage while it dried out. 5. Waited 24 hours for the garage to dry (per instructions). The garage floor should feel like low grit sandpaper after you powerwash and it dries. 6. Applied the epoxy kit. The kit comes with two bags (see LL #5). Do one bag at a time. Reason is the epoxy cure time. Make sure you have a good roller, at 3/8" nap. A good synthetic poly one. Don't go cheap on the roller, get a good one. After combining the first bag I waited a few minutes for the mixture to activate per the instructions. Then I cut the corner of the bag and added to a Solo cup (see LL #6). Take the bag and put it in a bucket or back in the box (see LL #7). From there I did the trim of the first half of garage with a brush. You may want to consider using a friend for this part of it. Doing the trim by yourself takes up time you could be using to roll. After finishing the trim, pour the contents of the bag in a paint roller and started rolling. Try your best to do 4'x4' sections at a time using a W and M methods to ensure the epoxy goes on evenly and you maintain a wet edge. If you go longer the edge will start to dry and pull up the epoxy and not give you an even finish. After each 4’x’4’ section apply the chips (see LL #8). Yes it is OK, if your chips fall on unpainted floor sections as your roller will get them on the floor elsewhere. I did buy an extra bag of chips since I wanted a heavy chip look. Glad I did. I got through the first half of the garage in a about an hour. Then I repeated everything above for the second half of the garage. Was able to get a good coat down with some left over. 7. Waited 24 hours for the epoxy to dry and cure. 8. Applied the EpoxyShield Clear Finish Floor coating kit (sold separately). Glad I did. Left a nice wet-look finish. Also added some of the anti skid stuff too. Follow the same precautions like Step #6. Make sure your pouches are in good shape. There’s been a lot of negative reviews on that product for sq ft. coverage. But I truly believe if you make sure to apply properly, not too much, can see what you are doing (see LL #9) and get some help from a friend with the trim, you can knock out a two car garage in an hour (my cure time) with just a single kit under the right ambient temperature conditions. Personally, because I knew I was going to be moving slower by myself, I bought two kits and did one garage half at a time. Also important you get a good 3/8” nap roller. For mixing I used a gallon container to mix in the anti skid stuff. Did that each time I had to refill the paint tray. 9. Waited at least 72 hours and voila, you are done and your wife can stop asking you when she can park in the garage!! Lessons Learned: 1. If you are disconnecting a water softner that's in your garage, make sure you run it to discharge all of the water from it before trying to move it. Will make it much lighter to move. Also it is MUCH easier to move a water softener with a dolly then by hand, even with two people. 2. Make when washing our your garage, you ducttape/tiewrap a ziplock bag around your garage door sensors near the floor to keep them from getting wet. 3. I don't think you need to buy the Concrete Etch and Cleaner. The epoxy kit comes with two little bags of etcher that you can mix with water. It's the same thing. 4. Buy a good stiff bristled deck scrubber when washing/cleaning your garage floor. Recommend the Quickie Heavy Duty Jobsite Deck Scrub Brush from HD. 5. When you open the box, double check to make sure the bags are still seperated in their respective A and B pouches. They should be stored in the box in an upside down "V" to ensure they didn't combine during shipping/stocking. Also gently squeeze/push both A and B ends so you know they haven't hardened at all. You want to make sure that everything mixes properly before you apply the epoxy. 6. The moment you cut open the bag, your clock starts. I took an Ipad, propped it up in the garage and ran a stop watch on the screen so I could keep track of my time without having to pull my phone out constantly. Application time will vary depending on ambient temps. Basically, you have MUCH less time to apply if it is warmer. 7. I made the mistake of letting the bag "sit" on the floor without putting it in a bucket or box. And when I say put in a bucket or box, I don't mean pour I just mean set. Reason is with the bag sitting on the floor it fell over on mean and spilled a good amount of epoxy everywhere so that was fun to work around. Putting the bag in a bucket or box will keep the bag and epoxy inside from tipping over! 8. Saw one user recommended using an old empty parmesan cheese container to apply the chips evenly. I did this. Worked pretty well, recommend it! 9. Found it very challenging to see where I was applying the clear coat. You may want to consider adding additional lighting to garage to help you with them. A small headlamp might do just fine. Or apply the clear coat with the garage door open. Either way, it’s important to see what you are doing so that you don’t miss any spots or use too much and run out. I actually missed several spots. The cool thing is I called RustOleam about it, and they are sending me a free clear touch up kit to fix my spots!! 10. This is more of a pro-tip, but I took some time while waiting for the clear coat to fully cure to drive ready to touch up my garage walls and baseboards. And also re-caulk some areas along the baseboards to seal up any cracks that had opened up. Glad I did this, gave the garage a nice fresh look!

        Mostly great
I did our garage floor 6 years ago with this product and it has stood up to almost everything. I had a bottle of bleach that was leaking and ignored it for 2-3 days since it says it stands up to chemicals. I was wrong. It ate the epoxy right off the garage floor. To be fair, most everything else has been fine. Oil leaks, Meguiar's tire shine, etc has just wiped right off. Given what I know now I would still buy this product again and use it on another garage floor.

Use this after you put your color choice down it gives you project a finished look plus I think it adds durability and locks in all of the chips (if you used them) and seals everything together.

First facts! I have 2.5 car garage. Put down In heated garage during low/mid 60s weather. Floor was 65 measured with temp gun. Experience with epoxy is extensive. I make surfboards on the side for love and little extra income. I first started out with reading reviews! Very helpful! that’s why I’m leaving a review to help others! Obvious observations..... how the heck is one two part bag going to cover my 2.5 car garage (450sq/ft) when my TWO bag two-part gloss grey kit covered it with just a little to spare? Sorry to say It’s true......GO BUY ANOTHER KIT! One kit will get you just over half way done! Exactly how the original grey kit did as I expected just slightly further. Am I surprised? NOPE! It’s Common sense. This is the reason why I put one square for value. How can a two bag grey kit with 2 etch and 2 paint chips cost 117$ and a single bag with anti skid cost 105$? Makes no sense! And is wrong! Almost like they know you’re not going to be happy with the uniformity of the original product and need to buy two of these to cover up your mistakes or willingness to not settle with imperfections. ITS BY DESIGN! They know they got you where they want you. Tips. YOU NEED TWO PEOPLE! knowing I needed to stretch the material to cover whole floor I had my wife constantly stir and poor slowly (out of supplied two part bag) in front of me as I rolled and blended as even as possible. If you ever used a paint tray to paint you see how much paint gets wasted if you wash and re-use tray. It’s the same thing. Only With epoxy, Main importance is work fast! Epoxy creates exotherm. The thicker\deeper product is, the hotter it will get.......making it kick “cook” and set quicker. IF WORKING SOLO USE PAINT TRAY to help dissipate heat and give you longer work time. The quicker you get it down the better it will blend together. (by quick, I don’t mean get sloppy) The reason why I bought this was because I spent HOURS up to this point and money already invested. Having my socks catching ever colored flaked sprinkled down I wanted to make sure they stayed down..... at least as long as possible. Also I wanted to cover up differences is sheen and some roller marks from original product because I have slight ocd. This product did still have differences in sheen with the way the light reflected off of it, but was ten times more uniform than the original grey epoxy & chips application. Also now paint chips are encapsulated in a clear coat and no longer snag on my socks. Anti skid seems to work well since it’s been raining this week. Garage Now has a more of a wet look than a matte/slight shiny look. Looks way more polished now! Very happy I finally have my dream garage. Time will tell on durability! It will be tested! Final summary......I Hate being lied to about coverage.... although I can’t stop starring at my garage floor either.

This is 100% solids epoxy. Observations... I mixed a small amount to test on my garage floor using a paintbrush (5:3 ratio as recommended by the support team- hope was correct! It dried, bonded very well, self leveled, and gave me the thickness I was looking for. However, when I applied to the entire floor with a roller it seemed to dry a little thinner- maybe 2 mils. Just thought that was odd but overall I was still happy with result. Also noticed that the entire content will cover only about 250 sq feet so recommend buying two for a 2 car garage. Lastly, I don’t see how anyone could use the entire anti skid bag, I only used about 40% and that was fine.

The coverage is not what they are saying in the package. I am very disappointed with that. Overall the garage floor looks good, but I have few inches without Epoxyshield. It does not make sense to buy another box to complete a few inches as shown in the pic attached. What option do I have now? Spend another $100 to complete that little?

I recommend this product but you must know this is a lot of work and more costly than expected. I used one base coat and three applications of clear coat for this to turn out satisfactorily for me. I used 1 coat of Epoxy Shield gray to start. I went heavy on the paint chips because I like it better and it covers mistakes. This is what the paid guys do here too. If you go heavy on paint chips must buy extra packs. HD does not have the matching color in extra paint chip bags so had to go to the other big box store to get them. A problem with this clear coat is that it is so sticky, even in the usable time frame, that on the first coat it was pulling up some of the applied paint in spots. So on your first coat, do not keep going over the same spot. Paint chips helped to cover/camouflage these spots when it happened. Also, the clear coat is not evenly shiny with just one coat, but I also added chips. Second coat without any further addition of chips also had areas that were not evenly shiny (no paint pull up). I got the best most even result with a roller after the 3rd coat. DO NOT use a foam squeege to spread. If you are willing to buy gallons of this so it comes out like glass as shown on the packaging it might work but I found it puddled unevenly and I had to correct with a roller. Also follow all time constraints on working with the product for best results. The paint will be dull if take too long to apply (but can cover with shiny clear coat) and the clear coat will become too tacky to apply after ~1 1/2 hr. All in all, I am happy with it but a lot more work and cost than expected. I did a 3 car (2+1) garage plus cement riser surrounding the floor and it cost me about $850 for all the product. However, I still saved about $1,000 from what the builder was charging to do it and other homeowners have had flaking problems with this builder installed epoxy garage floor. Hopefully I won't.

Recently decided to paint my garage floor. The ancient original paint had peeled, faded and pretty much disappeared in many areas. I prepared the floors, getting all the old peeling paint tight and all loose material removed. I removed all dust and dirt and let floor dry. I then painted the floor with a 1-part epoxy concrete and garage floor paint and added color chips as instructed. The paint job came out nice after two coats, but the chips were coming up fairly easily and I wasn't confident about their future when traffic was applied. So after enough research to satisfy my DIY curiosity on the various products, I purchased the Rust-Oleum Epoxy Shield Clear Garage Floor Kit. Whether Rust-Oleum or other brands of Epoxy Coverings, square foot coverage results seemed to be a doubtful aspect of the product in most reviews. Most other considerations seemed to be less of a concern. I have had some experience with epoxy coatings over the years and knew it to be basically a glue product. As such I was not surprised at the short pot life and the need to move quickly once application was begun. If the surface was painted properly and given time to "cure", I suspected the clear epoxy coat could be rolled on with a 3/8" nap roller without much problem. I mixed in the "sand" additive as directed in a bucket (why do so many folks complain about no bucket? The directions on the box indicate it will be needed). Once this was done, I used a rolling pan to keep the amount I'd be working with as minimum as I could since I knew drying could be an issue. It was a relatively dry day in Melbourne, Fl, where I live and temperatures in the mid 80's, so fairly ideal. I rolled out the coating in 4-6 foot squares as instructed, and moved quickly, rolling out a relatively thin coat and then going back over each section a second time quickly. In this manner I was able to complete the entire 430' garage in about 45 minutes. I didn't have any trouble with roller marks (a 3/8" nap is important to prevent problems here), or with the product drying too quickly. It rolled on easily enough, although it is definitely not like paints in this regard, so a constant. fairly fast application process is best. By doing this I was able to complete my garage, although no product left at the end of the project. If I did another garage, I would be more conservative in the first few "squares" to make sure I could get the maximum use of the product. Overall, the job turned out as I expected and a nice finish. I'm waiting now for it to dry, so unless it starts peeling up or does something else extreme, I believe I will have the floor I wanted. I am happy with the results. The reason for this rather long evaluation is that I believe most of the folks who have reviewed and had less than a happy experience may not be applying the product properly. As I mentioned, this is NOT a paint product like a latex paint or even an oil based paint. Epoxy has the consistency and character of epoxy GLUE, so it is well to be aware that this is how it must be applied. It will be sticky. It will "tack" quickly and must be put down with a determined pace. If allowed to sit in a "puddle" for more than a few minutes (or even less, depending upon conditions) it will tack and create a hardened streak or spot or become problematic in other ways. The instructions also warn about this problem. If you are not confident that you can use this product successfully realizing its characteristics, you may wish to have a professional do the job, or at least research the heck out of it on-line to be sure you are up to speed. The product performed as advertised and expected and I got a nice garage floor as a result. Best wishes to all.

I had the same experience as Ronnie. I used the EpoxyShield grey paint to my 400 sf garage floor, then tried to apply the clear coat and ran out 1/2 way through. I also ended up with leftover grey paint and thought the clear would perform similarly. Not so. The mixture was very viscous even without adding the anti skid powder. The good thing is that I called the 800 number in Rustoleum's response to Ronnie's post (thanks Ronnie!) and they will be refunding me for my $104 purchase. I'm heading back to HD to purchase another can so I can finish the job. I only gave two stars due to all the hassle involved with using this product, even though the finish looks quite good on the portion of the garage floor I was able to cover.

Shine is worth the extra $
I followed instructions for bottom coat see my review. I applied in 70 degree weather and it covered my 465 sq ft with a little left over. It is mirror like where I applied very thick. I used anti skid but the paint chips have some texture. The anti skid looks like salt spread throughout the clear. I think without it it would be a smoother, more reflective clear coat.

Well folks, take heed in what you read about the coverage area of this product. It does not cover the 450-500 SQ.FT as advertised on the product box, But I thought I am super good at spreading paint thin to get max coverage, but this proved me super wrong. I have a 400 SQ.FT garage and I just applied the EpoxyShield Gray Gloss 2 days ago and it covered really well and I actually had a little left over. But that's another review!! Temperature and humidity was not the issue I applied this product when the temp outside was 66 degrees with 41% humidity an oddity here in North Texas. This product when mixed is thick like syrup and spreads the same way. As I stated I was spreading for max coverage but ran out on my last section near the door opening (see pic). I rolled out what I could but you can tell I was out of product. I personally think that if they made this product in a 120oz package it would be enough on a freshly epoxied area, I mean for the price come on man!! The reason for 3 stars is because the areas that are covered look awesome!

ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I spent $1,000 on Rust-o-leum products only to have it screwed up at the very end? What a waste of time and money! I bought 4 boxes, enough to cover 2000 sqft according to Rust-o-leum, so you would think a 24x32=768 sqft garage with Rust-o-leum professional epoxy coated floor would be fine and not run out. WRONG!!!! My brand new man cave floor is totally ruined!!!! I watched countless videos on how to clean, etch and apply epoxy floor coating. Even though the concrete slab is only 5 months old and was stain free, I still cleaned and scrubbed and etched and cleaned and sanded and cleaned and etched and scrubbed and then cleaned some more. I worked my butt off for 3 weeks to get the floor as perfect and well prepared as I possibly could and let it dry completely because I wanted it done right. I read all the reviews and even bought twice as much because so many people seem to have trouble with the amount!!!! Unfortunately, I was stupid enough to think they were just crazy or didn't do it right. Well, my mistake!!! They were being generous claiming you'll get 200 sqft of coverage per box, because I was lucky if I got 150 sqft per box. I read the instructions and knew this had a pot life of only an hour, but didn't think it would really be way under 30 minutes?!?!? My wife helped me do the trim and rolling and we're 45/42 in shape and athletic quick moving people. I mixed up 2 boxes worth with a drill stirrer and anti slip and we immediately and quickly did the trim using brushes and then a squeegee and roller to apply the coating on the floor. Can't blame it on the Sun or the wind or weather, this was done 24 hours after the epoxy was laid down and around 8 pm in Tulsa, OK with late Sept. temps in the 70-80's, with garage doors closed to prevent bugs and no fans for drying. Still thinking 2 boxes was supposed to be plenty and 4 boxes should've been way more than enough I only wanted to try the 2 boxes first thinking I might be able to return the other 2...... :( After I mixed the 2nd batch of 2 kits worth and after we started apply it, we both knew and could see we were going to run out. Then trying to get the last little bit out of the bucket, it literally dried seconds after it hit the floor and I mean seconds. When I went to put the squeegee to spread it, it wouldn't move and was already hard. Mind blowing!!! When you see in the pictures what looks to be wet, isn't..... it's already stuck to the floor and was way too sticky and hard to spread. So not only did I run out, but we now have big huge very noticeable and permanent globs. Very disappointed!!!

That is not what we like to hear! Our EpoxyShield Clear Finish Floor Coating Kit must be mixed one pouch at a time. If multiple kits are mixed together at one time, the coating will generate too much heat, which causes the coating to cure very rapidly. Please give us a call at 866-765-4474, we need more information about the application, and we will do our best to help make things right. Rustoleum

I ordered 2 of these to finish my 960 sq. ft. garage and ran out half way thru. I was so glad home depot had 2 cans in stock so I could finish. And I barely had enough. I Use the Rust-Oleum epoxy kit prior to using the clear gloss. My garage looks wonderful. But plan on this only doing half the sq. footage. And 100 dollars a box that was an extra 200 dollars on what I figured in. Also you might want to use this on a sunny day. I have cats and dogs and had to keep the garage doors down and not real great lighting. I notice later I missed a couple of spots.

good product !!.. i did a 14 x 30 ( 420) sq ft garage and also the baseboards around with this one bag.. and yes .. do not be wasteful it will just cover enough ...and afterwards looks great and very durable..added in the sandy grit included ( a little unsure if i should? ) but it proved to be a must!!!..the floor has a high gloss shine and a gritty non slide grip to it... once you mix the git into the product roll floor our fast..its kind of like rolling out maple syrup real sticky feeling like a mess ...hoping that it would dry even ??...but it will ..and make floor is CLEAN or you will get pieces of whatever underneath when it hardens..(i got a few dirt and small chunk things here and there ..but.. IT LOOKS GREAT !!

                                Not that much product
Barely did 260 Sqft. Should come with a pail for mixing also. Didn't have a issue with the antiskid additive settling. Looks good for now but just laid it down.

This is not what we expect to hear! To ensure the most working time with Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Clear Garage Floor Coating, and the best coverage, it is essential that the product is applied within the pot life and that the pouch/mixture is kept out of direct sunlight. If needing further assistance, please give us a call at 800-481-4785 to talk with us.

Rustoleum Garage Floor clear coat coverage
I read the reviews about the product not covering the square footage as advertised. As a result I applied it as thin as possible. And yes the reviews are correct. It WILL NOT cover 200 sq ft. If you have a 2 car garage plan on buying 2 kits. And at that cost it's not worth it. And I was painting over their 2 part epoxy paint finish so there was not any absorption into bare concrete. So for the cost it isn't worth it . They need to put about 25% more product into their packaging.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experinece, Bob. While the condition of the floor does affect the coverage of Rust-Oleum EpoxyShield Garage Floor Clear Coating, so does how thick the coating is applied and your temperatures. Applying the product when temperatures are too high or if the pouch/mixture is left in direct sunlight can cause the coating to set up much faster and reduce the time you have to work with the product. We do want to hear more about your application and try to make things right with you. Please give us a call at (888) 683-5667 for further assistance.
