Doesn’t help with hard water.
I bought this product over 3 months ago. I bought some strips to test the water in the house for hardness. Even with this filter in the refrigerator the water from the refrigerator still says it’s just as hard as the water coming directly out of the sink. So it’s not a good product for me. I need a water filter that helps with the chemicals in the water plus how hard my water is.

Filters make water taste awful.
These filters never top tasting bad. I bought a box of 3 and threw the other 2 out. We have followed the instructions and we have run countless gallons of water through the filter and it still tastes horrible. Don't waste your money. Nice thing is our model refrigerator can operate without the filter. I purchased an 'in-line' filter to filter the water before it gets to the refrigerator.

New Design Doesn't Work on Older Refrigerators
I have a model RFG298HDRS Samsung refrigerator built in 2012. The fridge has been great and still works except for one small issue: new HAF-CIN water filters do not work. In fact, Samsung doesn't even list this model on the filter finder page, almost as if they didn't expect their product to last more than 10 years.
I've been purchasing genuine Samsung water filters for the life of the fridge, and the last ones I bought won't work at all. The water can barely make it through the filter due to a design change. When I remove the filter, the dispenser works fine. Samsung seems to have value engineered themselves right out of a repeat customer when the time comes when I really need to replace this refrigerator.

What is this!?
Received and opened my package 20 minutes ago to find the Samsung water filter box inside was already opened on one end and poorly taped on the other end. One of the filters inside was plastic wrapped, the other wasn’t wrapped at all. For the money I spent, I foolishly expected something new. Now I’m looking at one opened filter I can’t trust and one wrapped in plastic that makes me question its contents. I received what looks like a re-packaged returned item.

The worst filter. Over priced terrible product
This product is essentially a lie. The packaging provides no information on what exactly is being filtered by the over priced bloated manufacturer. On this day of 8 September 2023, I’ve had a water test performed by professionals from the water filtration industry. The quality scale is 0 to 10, 10 being the worst. The water from my tap returns a 10 horrid. The water from my brand new Samsung refrigerator using the same tap water WITH this filter ranks a 9.
I think Samsung and the manufacturer of this filter need to explain what this filter is doing and why it must exist. The price does not reflect the expected quality. For what it does do, SAMSUNG needs to refund the customers money.

A little challenging to install/terrible packaging
It takes a few tries to both align the filter and apply enough pressure to insert the filter properly. You can make a mess from leaking water if you don’t get it right. My biggest complaint is the “theft protected” packaging which is extremely difficult to remove without a box cutter. Clearly Samsung is more interested in pleasing the retailer than pleasing the consumer.

The filter is an okay product. My major issue is with the packaging and how hard it is to replace the filter in the fridge. First, the package. It is very difficult to open this plastic package. While trying to open it, the plastic burst apart and actually cut me in several locations (hand and face). Luckily, no major damage, just some minor cuts. A cardboard box would be a major upgrade. Second, it is very difficult to remove the old filter to replace it. It took me and my husband wrestling it and there is limited space to grip.
