Deep woods grass possible?
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Well I have this section of lawn or rather dirt that borders the neighbors woods that is always bare of living things. The trees are fairly dense in their forest and thus shade the area most of the day. Trying out Scott’s dense shade mix grass seed to see if this can survive. It only requires 3 hours of sunlight which I think I have, we'll see. I ruffed up the soil and spread the seed using a Scott’s hand held spreader, then put down some Scott’s starter fertilizer. It took while for the sprouts to appear ~ 2/3 weeks and it’s a bit spotty, I’ll put some more down in the spring. So right now it’s a wait and see how it does in the spring as I have plenty of sun now that the leaves are down. I’ll update accordingly.

    it works
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The yard had some bare spots that really needed some help and was not surprised that Scotts has a good product like this seed. I did aerate and put down starter fertilizer and already have a whole bunch of new grass coming thru. It is filling in really nice. The dark green blades are blending in with the rest of the grass. You wont be disappointed. Don't forget to water every day until germinated.

Grew fast and the yard is great looking again
Fantastic seeds. Excellent growth. Needed to apply after a fast growing brown spot, possible caused by insects. After treating for insects I applied the seed. Saw amazing results in just over a week and by 3 weeks look really good. I did reseed after the first week filling in where it was not as full. I also use Scotts topsoil and starter fertilizer.

      given up buying scotts products
3 months ago I bought this Scotts® Turf Builder® Grass Seed Tall Fescue Mix from Lowes, spread it according to instructions, watered properly for 3 weeks. Nothing grew. I had soil tested ph was fine. Added Turf Builder 1.5 cu. ft. Lawn Soil when nothing germinated. That didn't help only added to my dislike of Scott products. Now I still have a bald spot on my lawn plus weeds I never had before.

        seed weed
I put the grass seed down about 10 days ago. I’m getting very little growth of grass, but i’m seeing lots if weeds. It appears as if the seed or possibly the Scotts ground soil was contaminated with weeds.

Best grass seed mix I've tried
Scotts Tall Fescue mix gave me the best results after trying several different types of grass seed. I seeded in the spring, overseeded and fed Scotts Weed & Feed fertilizer in the fall and following spring. The end result was a lush, deep green lawn where there used to be dirt and weeds. Hardy in both direct sun and shade.

Followed all instructions and still have bare spots
On September 29, 2020 we purchased two 20 pound bags of Scott's Turf-builder Tall Fescue seed. We prepped our lawn according to the instructions, laid the seed down according to the instructions and watered daily according to the instructions. Most of the seed never germinated and we still have bare spots all over our lawn. One of the reasons we purchased Scotts is because of the "no quibble" money back guarantee printed on the bag. We thought for sure the seed would work if we followed the instructions but it did not. Would not recommend this product to anyone!

We are sorry to hear that Scotts Turf Builder Tall Fescue Mix did not germinate as expected. This seed will germinate best when temperatures are consistently between 65-85 15-29 degrees for about 3 weeks. We want you to be aware that we do back our product with a product guarantee. Lush and thick grass in 30 days
During quarantine I decided to give some TLC to the back yard to stay busy. This worked great, however there are a few steps I took that I think are crucial to having success with it. 1) You MUST buy the Scotts Top Soil to go with the seed. Everywhere I applied the soil the grass grew amazingly in 30 days. I’m talking areas that before were completely dirt to nothing but grass. Other areas honestly didn’t take the seed too well and I’ll have to reapply with the soil. 2) Don’t be afraid to load up areas with seed. As long as its properly soiled, it’ll take all of it for better results. 3) Give it time. You won’t see anything growing for about 2 weeks but it’s working, trust me. I gave my yard 30 days and am extremely happy with the results. 4) Water at least every other day. 5) Stay off the seed! I have dogs and completely closed off my area of the yard I had seeded from them for the full 30 days. The only time it should have anyone walking on it is to water. The only reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars is because my experience is you have to buy the soil for the seed to work properly. However I promise if you follow these steps you’ll be just as happy as I am!

                Tall Fescue Grass
I had brought your Bermuda Grass seeds and did not have a problem. I just decided to take it up because of it's aggressive growing. I decided I wanted Tall Fescue Grass so after taking up the Bermuda grass I put down The Fescue Grass I had know problem with the seeds growing . But the grass is thin I don't like the thin blades of grasss and when walked on it lays flat.

Weed seed mixed in with the Tall Fescue Mix. I used the Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Tall Fescus mix as the primary seed for my yard reseeding last month. The seed grows well, but now there is unwanted weeds in my yard that were not there before. This has occurred in my front and back yards. I believe there is a mix of weed seed in the tall fescue mix because the weeds that are now present are not a species of weed that was present in my yard prior to using the Tall Fescue Mix.

We apologize that you were not thoroughly satisfied with Scotts Turf Builder Tall Fescue Mix Grass Seed. All of our Scotts seeds are thoroughly cleaned and is 98.9% to 99.9% weed seed free. Natural soil contains thousands of seeds and when soil is disturbed, such as by rototilling, seeds that were deep in the soil may be brought to top of soil where growing conditions are better allowing them to germinate. You can contact us if you would like to continue discussing this or if you want to know about our product guarantee. You can reach us at 877-220-3089. Scotts

Great product if you take the time and do as directed
I had great success after spraying roundup and waiting a week and spraying again to make sure i got everything. I then added compost/topsoil a week later for leveling and adding a thin layer. I also used my scarifier before putting seed down and raking in before smoothing. The picture is thirteen days after putting down the first seed and about two days from germinating the second batch of seed i put down seven days after the first seeding. I highly recommend

Planting so late in Autumn, I didn't think there was a chance I would have grass growing, wow am I surprised! Germination was very rapid, A week ago broke the soil with a shovel, sowed the seeds with no other material introduced. Watered the first two days, skipped a day, watered the next. The following day went to work in the dark, came home in the dark, next morning I have new grass popping up everywhere. If I can grow this stuff, any one can grow it, I'm more of a concrete kind of gardener.

It's dead Jim... I seeded. It rained. I watered. No thick rich lawn after two weeks. I do notice a few blades cropping up here and there. Where is my miracle darn it! With that said, I am sure this product is great and I did something wrong or got a bad bag (or perhaps older stock). I will try another bag and perhaps potting soil and I am sure the results will change. Pros for grass farming: I am in humid-subtropical N.Virginia where we have had good rain and sunshine. Cons for grass farmer: I have a brown thumb and a pathetic backyard, not helped by my two 65lbs dogs who provide their digging services and fertilizer (but we pick up). If Bob Ross were to have ever painted my lawn he would have needed only brown and a frown.

I had virtually NO weeds in my yard. I put this down and yes now I have lots of new growth but along with it came WEEDS. So now I will have spend more money on special weed killer in order to get my yard back. BEWARE! I would have given this a negative star but that wasn't an option.

I over seeded my lawn last fall, and this summer I have a yard infested with crabgrass and other weeds. I reached out to Scotts for questions about the product. No answers to my email. However during a chat session, I was able to get in touch with their rep who promptly initiated a refund, without once defending the product.

I love this seed. I continue to use it in my front and back yard with awesome results. My neighbors are jealous of my yard. I have been told I have one of the best looking on the block. I cannot say enough about this seed. It grows thick and green, I use it to spot treat and to over seed. I plowed up my yard one year and reseeded with this fescue and another type of seed. This seed came up so fast, I couldn’t believe it. My neighbors came over to see what I had done to cause the grass to come up so quickly. Just Scott’s seed and Scotts Starter Fertilizer.

I put down more grass seed than recommended then put a light coating of scotts turf builder top soil. With proper watering of once a day grass started to show up in 7 days. If you are covering a bare spot I think a generous amount of grass seed should be put down not whats recommended on the bag. Greater chance of a thicker amount of grass to come up.
