High Hopes
Initially this stuff looked fantastic on my products. After sanding the first coat and applying the 2nd is where I noticed yeah not so much. It clumped up, left air bubbles, really sticky when dried, after sanding shows lots of scratches. I have to completely sand down my products and go back to minwax!

Thank you for reaching out. When applying a second coat of Rust-Oleum Watco Tung Oil Finish, it is not recommended to sand between coats. Instead, after 24 hours of drying time, apply the second coat and allow to penetrate for 5–10 minutes before buffing with a lint free cloth.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Since Rust-Oleum Watco Tung Oil is intended for use on interior surfaces only, this product will not offer lasting results on exterior surfaces and can quickly fade away depending on the exposure. If wanting to use an exterior-grade finish, you may need to remove the existing tung oil on the surface to ensure full penetration or adhesion of the new product.

The tung oil was easy to apply but definitely follow the directions in regards to how long to leave it on. I left it on too long and it became thicker and I was not able to wipe off the excess. So I had to go over the table twice with mineral spirits to remove the excess. But it's all good now and the table looks great and stands up to the weather.

Tung oil is known for being a good exterior finish for wood. I was vey disappointed to notice that the Watco brand states for "indoor use only", of course this was after having applied two coats on the wood, which I am now sanding off to use some Teak oil.

We appreciate you sharing your experinece, Robert. Rust-Oleum Watco Tung Oil is intended for use on interior surfaces only and will not offer the same protection on exterior wood surfaces as an exterior-grade wood finish.

This Watco Tung Oil has done wonders bringing my kitchen cabinets back to life. Wash clean with Dawn 4x Platinum, dry, apply the tung oil with a clean cloth & presto; scratches disappear, blend or standout then that's touch up.

The oil was very easy to apply. The finish is sticky. I tried using mineral spirits, but it is still sticky, but not as bad. I will need to sand it.

Let's talk about this! When applying Rust-Oleum Watco Tung Oil, it is essential that all excess oil is wiped away from the surface shortly after application. If the excess oil has sat on the surface for some time, the area may need to be buffed with the mineral spirits and a clean cloth to help with removal.

The name of this product is a misleading lie. This is not Tung Oil. Rather, it is a thinned varnish, unclear if there’s any natural oil in the product at all.

Let's see what we can figure out. The resin in Watco Tung Oil is tung oil, the solvent is mineral spirits. Once the mineral spirits flashes off (evaporates), the tung oil remains.

I bought this for an indoor piece of furniture which was a mistake. This stuff stinks to high heaven. I ended up coating it in a layer of shellac which hides the smell completely, but I wish I had never bothered with this finish. This stuff smells toxic and is.

Our Watco Tung Oil is a solvent based finish, and there is a strong solvent odor associated with this product. Per the product label, this product should be used only with adequate ventilation. As the finish dries, the solvents quickly evaporate, and the associated solvent odors will dissipate. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2 Rustoleum

Watco Tung Oil Finish - NOT pure tung oil
This is NOT pure Tung oil. As the label clearly states, this is a finish oil. That means that it contains other oils or distillates that allow for fast drying. Fine for applying to table finishes. Brings out the color of the wood, and it dries much more quickly than pure Tung Oil
