It does what it promises. Comparable to the paint store's version. NOTE: A binding primer such as Peel Stop is not meant to cover like a solid base-coat primer. It is meant to prevent peeling, seal weathered wood, and fill small cracks. For solid coverage, use a regular base-coat primer on top of Peel Stop before painting.

Worst primer you could ever use. It is not thick and has no pigment what so ever. Waste of money paying extra for this. Just a waste of time and money.

That's not what we like to hear! Rust-Oleum Zinsser Peel Stop Triple Thick Primer is a water-based acrylic binding primer designed to penetrate and stop previous coatings from peeling. Peel Stop Triple Thick is three times thicker than regular primers when applied properly, so it fills and seals cracked, weathered, and peeling surfaces, creating a smoother, more uniform surface for finishing. It dries to a white finish to provide contrast for application of finish coats. Product may either be applied lightly for basic priming and sealing, or follow with several thick coats to bridge and fill cracked and uneven surfaces. For severely peeled surfaces, apply a first coat thinned with 10% water and work into the peeling paint. Apply the product up to 30 mils wet per application, not to exceed 30 mils, which may result in mud cracking or sagging. Rustoleum

Please keep in mind. Rust-Oleum Zinsser Peel Stop Triple Thick is three times thicker than regular primers when applied properly, so it fills and seals cracked, weathered, and peeling surfaces, creating a smoother, more uniform surface for finishing. It is intended for previously painted surfaces to prevent further peeling or weathering. Not for filling in cement block surfaces. Rustoleum

Zinsser has been an absolute lifesaver. The exterior of my house had not been painted in a long time. Removing peeling paint was a nightmare. Using Zinsser's White binding primer literally mended the cracks and peeling. It cut my work time in half.

This product works exactly as advertised “seals cracked, weathered, and peeling surfaces, creating a smoother, more uniform surface for finishing.“ I am very pleased with this product. This product is 50% transparent white. Its like a thin wood glue or a very thick primer. It doesn’t go over white, but transparent. After it drys, it hardens very well and glues the old paint, fills in cracks and I think it even strengthens or hardens the wood/siding. My situation is very worn and cracked plywood panel siding along with same condition cedar trim. Lots of cracks, old paint is peeling off etc… the siding even flexes a little between studs 16 inch apart. First I power washed the surface carefully. Only trying to remove loose paint, cleaning the surface and making sure I don’t damage the wood. I let it dry overnight, next day I caulked between trim and siding, day after I started painting with this primer. Few hours later I went over a second coat on very worn surfaces. Day later I pained with a high quality paint and even gave a second coat on areas that still showed weathered surfaces. The end product was amazing. Weathered surfaces reduced by 80%. Siding is stronger than before and doesn’t flex. Its been over 3 months and the paint is holding well (unlike the 1 star rating review). Will update after a year or two later.

        Does not perform as advertised
I bought this product to apply to wood porch floor boards which are weathered and have several coats of old paint, some of which is failing. I scraped the flaking and peeling old paint, leaving rough 'edges' where paint scared off. There were also weathered bare planks of wood which had ridges from the wood grain. I sanded with an electric sander with 60 grit paper to help smooth everything out but there were still imperfections. I bought this product to use as a primer to smooth everything out so the finished painted product would look like new. As others mentioned, this pours from the can thick like molasses but goes on thin. I applied two thick coats, usingg an entire gallon for about 75 square feet. It made little to no difference. The paint chipped areas are still visible, as is the wood grain. I did not end up with a smooth painted finish as hoped. Hopefully it will work adequately as a basic primer and hold the paint, seal the wood and keep old paint from peeling. I wouldn't bother with this product in place of old-fashioned prep work.

Something is amiss here. Zinsser Peel Stop Triple Thick Binding Primer is not recommended for floors or decking surface. This product is not designed to withstand foot traffic. Rustoleum

          The Best
We took a 100 year old house that was peeling, and had extreme weathered wood and made it look like new. Spray coated and back brushed in, then a light spray coat on top. Painted with a top coat of 100% exterior latex. Wow

          So easy! Looks super--see photos!
I used it on our kitchen ceiling where there had been severe peeling (and where no other product worked). It went on smoothly and evenly and dried quickly. I used a texture over it and "voila" a like-new ceiling!! FYI: I'm a female DIYer and did it myself without a problem.

          Missing something?
I have a house built in the 1940's. I took off old siding and revealed the original wood siding and wanted a primer to put over the wood. Of course there was peeling and other imperfections that needed to be smoothed out. This looked like the perfect product. I cleaned the wood, did a light scraping of all other loose paint and let it dry. I began painting this stuff on with a large paint brush. I immediately noticed that despite it's thickness, it did not cover at all. The original color paint kept seeping through. I painted across the entire lower part of the house. Luckily I have a very small house. I went back and did 2 more coats. The same thing happened. Despite it's thickness, it didn't cover. I had painted 2 small patches of regular paint as color samples. The primer didn't even hide them even after 3 coats. I had to go back and read the directions again to see if I was missing something. Nope. I followed the directions. I replaced the trim around a window and put a coat of this stuff on the new wood. It was if I was putting nothing on. No coverage at all. After using it all day, I remembered I had another exterior wood primer in my shed so I grabbed it and tried it out. Bam! It covered with one smooth brush stroke. So I do not know what is going on with this product. It covers nothing and is in no way high build. After wasting all day, I'll return what's left in the can I used and return the second unopened can. The conclusion is.. just because a paint seems thick, that does not mean it covers.

Loved this product. I had paint “alligatoring” on the exterior of the house. I scraped off what I could and then used the Peel Stop on it. It’s actually pretty thin and looks like you are painting with Elmer’s glue. Dries quickly and really holds up. Saved me days of work trying to scrape all the paint off. I would definitely buy and use it again.

Does not stop tanins from bleeding through. Its about like Elmer's glue and dries hazey.. so not a high hide primer. Though since it it a bit like glue.. I imagine it may do what its advertised to do. ..check back with me in 5/10 years.

Thank you for reaching out! Rust-Oleum Zinsser Peel Stop Triple Thick Binding Primer is not designed to be a stain blocking primer. We recommend applying an oil-based primer over this one prior to painting for added stain blocking as needed. For heavier stains and tannins, we recommend Rust-Oleum Zinsser Cover Stain Oil-Based Primer!

Seems to have bonded the peeling sections of the concrete porch but I thought the thickness would be better and more concealing.

Most don't know how to use this product
I have been painting houses for over 50 years, and this is one of the best products I have ever used for painting the T111 siding on my house was peeling and in need of some TLC. This product goes on light white to clear. THIS IS NOT A PRIMER. It's a bonding painting which after scraping the loose paint off seals the scraped paint from peeling anymore. To see how it is when it dries put a very light coat of it on the inside of a plastic bucket. The next day you will be able to peel it off the bucket like a sheet of vinyl. This is how it dries on the surface you put it on. After applying this I primed my house as I was going from a dark color to snow white, if you are going with the same color you could use it as a primer. My siding looks great like new and there is no peeling or signs of peeling.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience, Austin! For the best results with Rust-Oleum Zinsser Peel Stop Triple Thick Binding Primer, it is essential that anything loose on the surface is removed. This primer also does take 7 days to reach full cure and fully adhere. We recommend avoiding scratching the surface before that point.

Not as good as I expected. It is much thicker than regular primer, but I had read that this thicker version would minimize minor imperfections. I noticed no difference between this and regular primer. Probably would not buy it again.

            HD packing is lacking
This stuff is great. HD is a problem. Service at HD is becoming problem. Item showed on store inventory then it was not there. HD won't ship/transfer from local stores. So ordered with shipping taking four days. Arrives in box not damaged but it course it was placed in a box on its side without any packing materials so the lid was opened up and then top was separating from the container. HD number provided got me a dummy who requires me to deal with UPS. I have since reordered as stuff is great.

This one came with it spilled in the box, but the next one I ordered came in just fine and dried very nicely. Not sticky and in hopes it works for the trim I used it on.

Had some areas on the back of a carport, eaves around gutters and doors with a lot of exposure. I pressure washed and scraped the area to prep as good as I could but still had bad paint peel. I put on 2 coats of peel stop and painted with a good quality paint and I was very impressed how well the peel stop prepped the area for painting.

              Great Product
Bought several years ago at Home Depot to use on original 1890's siding on our son's house. It really does help to smooth the surface and give the paint a good surface to adhere to. I've been almost 3 years since application and it is holding up great.
