Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting CFLs, lead acid batteries, rechargeable batteries, and plastic plant pots for recycling.
Home Depot stores sent approximately 5.3 million pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This helped the planet by preserving over 63,500 trees, keeping over 16,000 trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saving over 50 million gallons of water, and conserving 7.8 million kilowatt hours of electricity.
LED lights in your local store saved on energy consumption by 98 million kilowatt hours. Many stores also participate in renewable energy initiatives like solar and wind.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our customers and associates. This commitment extends beyond our stores to our communities and the environment. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Read more about our eco actions.

Do you offer Halloween skeletons or witches that move?
Yes, we carry several options of Halloween decor that move and make noise. Our Halloween animatronics bring frightening characters to life. Life-like moving creatures will be the talk of the neighborhood. This includes current favorites like Skelly and Dean the Deathologist, a dapper bartender. For extra drama, use a fog machine or two to veil the animatronics until they start to speak or sing.
Should I get an inverter generator or a portable generator?
We've got the variety you need when searching for a generator for sale. Inverter generators are quieter and cleaner than traditional portable generators. They adjust to whatever power load is requested. This means they'll make less noise in times of lesser demand. When considering different generators for sale, remember that portable generators are more affordable and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're louder and heavier. For safety purposes, always run your generators outdoors, away from windows and doors.
Why should I repair my roof before the cold sets in?
Make sure your home is ready for cold weather by replacing any broken parts of your hardscaping and home. If water freezes in the crevices, you could be in for a real headache. On the outside of your home, examine metal roof panels or shingles for rust or damage that could let water in. Gutters should be clear to prevent ice dams. Check brickwork and cinder blocks for cracks, and ensure indoor ceiling tiles are free from missing pieces and water damage. Lastly, replace chimney caps and vinyl siding if damaged.
Are garage cabinets or sheds better for storage?
As you prepare for the holidays, make extra space with storage solutions. Shield fragile items with moving blankets. Garage cabinets keep decorations, tools, and more out of the way. Take summer belongings out of the equation with shoe storage and other storage containers. If you need even more room, a new shed can give you the space you've been waiting for.
How do I check the balance of my Home Depot gift card?
Home Depot gift cards are an excellent choice for birthdays, housewarming parties, and the holidays. DIYers know they're fun to receive and to give. They can be purchased online at homedepot.com or in our brick-and-mortar stores. If you receive a gift card, you can check your gift card balance online or visit the Staten Island Home Depot and ask a cashier to check the balance for you. Use our gift cards to shop online or redeem them in-store. There are no additional fees to worry about.
