Questions & Answers

Can I use this to cut down a tree rather than just cutting up wood that's already down? Tree is probably 20ft tall, 2ftwide

Asked by: Benjennett
It would be possible and could certainly handle the 2' diameter but you would need to remove the anti-kickback safety tip. That is why it is not recommended by Homelite. I had a 20 year old Poulan 16" with a smaller motor and cut down a 30" locust tree. Electrics are very powerful. Use a large power cord 12 AWG so you don't burn up the motor.

what oil do I use for a Homelight electric model UT43120-A saw?

Lost the oil bottle
Asked by: Mike
After cutting wood to heat my houses for over 20 years, and using a chain saw in my woodworking hobby, I can safely say that bar and chain oil has a "tack" to it that other oils do not have. Years ago, I used to use recycled automotive oil, in an effort to save money. After a couple of bars prematurely wearing out, I quit doing that. That doesn't mean you have to buy the most expensive bar and chain oil out there. I have a gallon of an off-brand, and it seems just as tacky as most. I have used it in my Stihl for over 10 years, and I am still on the original bar. The trick is to just make sure there is oil in the reservoir. An empty oil chamber will kill off a chain and bar quicker than you think - just a couple of minutes cutting, in some cases.

The box says it includes a storage bag but it was missing. Called the 800 number and they told me the box is misprinted.

Was hoping to have at least the bag if not a case to keep bar oil from making a big mess in the garage. Is the answer I received on the customer support line correct? The listed accessories printed on the box is inaccurate and no storage bag ships with the saw?
Asked by: BigBuffalo
Hmmm. I just put the cover over the blade and put the saw right back in the box that it came in I have never had a problem with oil.
