Q:can you go directly into the barrel from the down spout?

Answer This Question
A: Hi RR,
It may go directly into the rain barrel, however, you may need an elbow attachment that angles the water from the downspout into the opening at the top of the barrel. Otherwise, you can use a diverter kit and the water would go from the downspout to the overflow at the back of the barrel.
Thank you,

Answer This Question
A: Yes, it is. If you attach a hose, just be aware that the pressure will not be like coming directly from your house. In my case, I attach a soaker hose to the to the tube that comes out from the bottom and hangs from the side. I use the spigot for filling watering cans. The whole system works on gravity feed so be sure to raise the water barrel when installing it.

A: Yes, I found a schematic diagram of the barrel on another site.

A: Yes, KP44, you can completely remove the top. It sits nicely within the rim at the top of the barrel, and over the plastic "screen". We recommend using a flower pot set into the cavity for potted plants in the lid. When the barrel fills up, it overflows into the lid cavity. Will add a photo later, if possible.
