Q:Does this compact router work well for doing dovetails?

Answer This Question
A: I would have to say NO. It would be a whole lot easier to cut dovetail joints with a mounted table router instead of a handheld router, but it can be done by making and using a jig with your router and then using a band saw. See this video:

A: I have done five pullout drawers and it worked fine, let the router do the work, go slow. I got it to do aluminum milling on 80% AR lowers as it was the best one recommended by many jig makers.

A: The conventional PC style bushings DO FIT the lunge base, but NOT the fixed base- the hole is too large, so you would need to make an accurate sub-base to hold the guide bushing.

Answer This Question
A: If you have the DWP611PK, the plunge base is equipped with a sub base for this application. If you have the DWP611 with the fixed base, you will need accessory sub base, DNP613, in order to use template guides

A: The plunge base does accept the standard guide bushings. The straight side base plate does not. However, there is a round base plate available for the standard base which also accepts the guide bushings.

A: In the 'Use and Care Manual' there is a section called 'Using Template Guides' in which they state that the guides do not work in the 'D' shaped base and only works in the round base. I purchased the round base and I use the standard template guides with it. When you purchase the round base you need to purchase a 'centering cone' too so the router bit will be properly positioned regardless of which way you turn the router.
