A:  I bought mine more than a year ago, and only one came in a box.

Q:Can it vent into the attic

              Answer This Question

A:  Yes but recognize that if you’re venting humid air, particularly from a bathroom, into a cold attic then you will get condensation in the attic.

              by|Dec 3, 2019

A:  No. you need to run a duct to the exterior. you can tie into an existing roof attic vent or out the eves. You don't want to dump moist air into the attic

                by|Mar 17, 2020

A:  It is generally against building code to vent directly to the attic. However if your attic is well ventilated there is little harm.

Q:I want to install fan in the wall in my bathroom the space between the fan and the exhaust duct is about 20 inches . Will there be a problem because of the bend in the exhaust line?

                Answer This Question

A:  You can get a 90-degree elbow and attach it if you need to.

                by|Mar 18, 2020

A:  To avoid bending the duct I taped the plastic Adapter first. Attach the metal housing with it pre-wired. Position the plastic Adapter near the cut out vent, so that you can glide it into position through the slots with your fingers. My was fairly easy and didn't damage the duct work at all. I also cut off the attachment wings to give my self more room to work with and screwed it into place using the holes that were already there.

                  by|Dec 24, 2019

A:  You mention a 20" distance to the exhaust line. The efficiency of the fan is reduced the further the discharge point is from the fan. How much additional ducting is there after the connection point 20" away from the fan. You will want to make sure the overall duct run does not exceed the manufacturers recommendation. With that said, a single bend will not be a problem as long as the overall run is within the recommended overall duct run. An elbow is the equivalent of 4' of straight duct. The elbow should be a rigid elbow to maintain full air flow and not flex duct. The flex duct will crimp and reduce the air flow.

                  by|Jan 26, 2020

A:  You can rotate the actual unit into any orientation that works best for you. As long as the hose is not kinked it should be fine.

                    by|Feb 7, 2021

A:  it should not be a problem with the bend as long as the bend is rigid piping and is not allowed to kink. Flex duct will kink and not allow adequate exhaust air flow.

                      Answer This Question

A:  Green light is to tell you the fan is running. My fan has no other color led.

                      by|Oct 7, 2019

A:  Barry, I believe the fan you have is a dual speed unit. This unit would have a green light for low speed and an amber light for high speed. If your light is the amber light that is on, it would mean that your wires are connected to the high speed wire. You would need two wall switches (or timers) with two separate "hot" wires to the fan as well as a white neutral wire in order to control both speeds. One "hot" wire would be connected to the black wire for one speed and the other to the blue wire for the other speed. If you currently only have a single white wire and a single black wire from the switch to the fan, you will need to chose to connect to either the black wire or the blue wire based on the speed you would like to run the fan at. You would need to run additional wiring to the fan in order to have both speeds in this case.

A:  I've had mine for a couple of years. It is running when the green light is on (yellow/green). Mine does not have a blue/green or yellow/red light. I have no idea what you mean by these colors.

                        by|Oct 6, 2019

A:  I actually have two of these fans. They only have yellow/green lights which come on when the fans are running. There are no blue/green or yellow/red lights on either of our fans. There are no lights on when the fan is not running, so perhaps you have a type of color blindness. I can't hear the fans but I know they are working when there is a light on in the corner of the fan.

A:  Yes, you will need to cut out the insulation where the fan box goes. The box is 3 1/2" deep so it uses the entire wall cavity in 2x4 stud walls.

A:  Rather than try to adapt this unit, I would search out and purchase a vent unit specifically designed for exterior wall applications (i.e. the vent duct points out, rather than 09 degrees sideways). Normally these units are mounted in ceilings with the attic above and vent to the roof or exterior via duct tubing and exit grill; or between ceiling-to-floor joist areas (1st. to 2nd story) with vent duct to the exterior wall. If you want to try an mount this unit in a wall, there are several issues involved: 1. You MUST have a wall insulation area thick enough for this unit to mount - these units have a fairly large grill-to-top-of-unit-height, thus they are mounted in the ceiling where this is not a problem. 2. You MUST also have sufficient wall insulation area space to mount duct tubing (aluminum flex) and/or a 90 degree exterior vent mechanism. ~ S

A:  Only if your exhaust pipe goes down from the fan.

                                by|Mar 18, 2020

A:  There are many factors that will have a bearing on the effectiveness of a fan that are as equally important as the duct length. Ideally, the run should be as short as possible (less than 12') with as few elbows as possible. A single elbow can be equivalent to several foot of duct. The cfm of the fan can also be a factor as well as whether it is discharging vertically or horizontally. The fan cfm capacity should be increased beyond standard room sizing if the duct length is long or has multiple elbows.

A:  Not sure about the maximum duct length, but if you’re going more than a few feet, use a smooth duct (not the flexible style) to reduce drag losses. If you point the wall mounted fan down, the damper will stay open due to gravity.

A:  Thank you for your inquiry regarding model SLM50, the maximum duct length for this unit is 40 ft. Mounting fan unit pointing down is an option but note that the duct damper won’t close and outside air can potentially enter to the fan unit. Duct damper works with gravity; when fan is mounted pointed upwards and motor is not engaged duct damper will close completely. A:  If the fan output port is pointed downward, the back flow preventer flap will not function properly--it will remain in the open position when the fan is not running.

A:  Although there is a wide range of shades of the color white, the trim tends to be as close to a ceiling white as you will find. However, being a plastic trim it may have a tendency to yellow over an extended period of time. The good news is that in the future if that occurs or you are not satisfied with the match to your ceiling, the trim is paintable. Some model fans can be used in a vertical wall application that have the same trim that I have painted to blend with the wall color.

A:  IMHO (in my humble opinion), this is a great little fan - but it is just that, a little fan. I don't think it would be as effective in the corner instead in the middle of the room. When you turn it on, it does take about 25 seconds to spin up, so don't think it does not work when you first install it. In other words, it does not spin immediately when you hit the switch.

This unit will need to be controlled by a separate switch or timer. There are models that do sense humidity and automatically turn on and off and will specifically state so in the product over view.

The mounting tabs for attaching the housing to the framing extend 1" from the housing on both sides of one end. The adapter for attaching the ducting also extends away from the housing about 2" on the opposite end from the mounting tabs.

The cover might cover it, but it will still be there and allow air out. You don't want to do it. Buy a fan that is closer to your 8" opening. .
