Q:If I use the screws to attach stainless steel kitchen vent hood to wood cabinets, will the screws react with the stainless steel? The installation is indoors but will be exposed to steam. I'm worried about galvanic corrosion.

Answer This Question
A: Hi, I'm Andrew from GRK. The white head coating on these cabinet screws does not thoroughly cover the underside of the head or the shank, so there will not be a polymer barrier to prevent dissimilar metal contact between the zinc-plated screw and the stainless steel vent hood. With exposure to cooking vapors and steam, it is possible for moisture to attack the screw’s zinc plating at an accelerated rate due to dissimilar metal contact with the vent hood. The use of a white steam-resistant plastic washer may effectively remove the issues of dissimilar metal contact (ID = .188", OD = .438", Thickness = .036" - .065").

Answer This Question
A: Use these to fasten cabinets to walls. I'd recommend a different screw, a flat head star drive screw to fasten cabinet rails to each other, one that self counter-sinks into the rail.

A: They aren’t made to attach cabinets together. Use trim screws to attach cabinets together. You can use these to attach cabinets to a wall.

A: Although M Collins answered that "They aren?t made to attach cabinets together," one of the photos (#13) clearly shows attaching a couple 3/4- inch plywood frameless cabinets to each other using this screw.

A: For future reference, measure the diameter of the screw head to determine fitment versus the traditional Kreg screw of the same size. I use GRK screws in pocket holes constantly with no issues. The Torx drive is superior to Kreg?s square drive.
by|Aug 7, 2023
A: The head is pretty big on these so probably not the best pocket screw. These screws are usually used to screw the cabinet to the stud. Kreg pocket hole jig and kreg screws would be better for what you need.

A: Yes, but could not countersink without leaving a large fill area
by|Nov 15, 2023
A: You'd be better off forming a rabbet joint, gluing and/or using kreg screws.
