A: Sibb,
Yes, you could secure the window by using one unit positioned vertically. Link provided to the 6-bar black or white unit. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Grisham-Pp-Spag-6-Bar-Window-Guard-in-Black-91660/202016109 Hope this helps.

Q:Can this be used for security purposes against theft? It seems as if the bars can swing in, somebody from the outside could easily enter. If I can remove that feature, will I need additional parts?

Answer This Question
A: Jeff,
The swing design window guard is for egress in the event of an emergecy. The AWG unit does not swing and is stationary. Link provided: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Grisham-Awg-4-Bar-Window-Guard-in-Black-94911/202016118 The AWG window guard is approved by the NYC Dept. of health as a fall prevention device.

Answer This Question
A: It will not, my window is 34 inches wide and when I measure the part it could expand 10 more inches max, which would make it 44 inches total.

A: This particular model of guard does allow you to open and lock. As a word of caution, I would look for a locking device that does not involve a key in the event of an emergency (fire) and the key can’t be located.
