Q:Purchased two different sets of the Hampton Bay 48 ft LED string lights. Neither worked at all! We thought the first set was defective so we returned it an exchanged it for a second box. Got it home, and the same thing. The bulbs work if plugged into a different apparatus so its apparently the lighting harness/cord. Super frustrated and fed up. How could this issue be so common and yet the company doesn't recall the product? Instead, they keep selling faulty product. Huge disappointment Hampton Bay!!!

A:  CLK, I have several of these and they worked fine. We’re you able to check the electrical source suppling the power? Did you plug the string of lights into a different power plug? Or check the GFCI that may be tripped (it could be tripped at a different GFCI outlet) I hope this helps.

Q:Why does my light bulbs have water in them they are supposed to be outdoor lights?

      Answer This Question

A:  I purchased 8 sets of these lights and have not experienced an issue with water in the bulbs. Is it in every bulb? It is possible the seal is broken and water is getting in.

      by|Sep 24, 2020

A:  Not sure. May be a defect. I have had mine up for ~4 years and none have any water in them. In addition, only 4 bulbs have blown since installation.

Q:I have two stands of these lights strung together in my backyard that have worked perfectly for the past three months. However, this past month all but 3 bulbs have been super dim. Now, all the bulbs are out accept 3 of them. Sometimes when I wiggle the wire, they all flash back on then off again. Replacing the bulbs does nothing. Any ideas on how to fix this?

          Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for inquiring and our apologies for this. Locate the affected socket, then unplug the string light set from the supply completely. Then unscrew the bulb from the socket. Then gently lift the socket tab slightly at the bottom of the socket so the bulb can make contact properly. Then screw the bulb back on tightly and securely. If this did resolve the issue, then feel free to give us a call at 1-866-326-2852 or send us an email to info@feit.com for further assistance. We are open Monday thru Friday, 8a-5p (PST), and are happy to help.

A:  Hello: If I had this problem I would first check where the two strings are joined to see if the plug and socket might not have a tight connection. Also the plug that goes into the outlet might not fit tightly. I actually used waterproof tape and wrapped my plug and socket that connects the two so that they would not move apart. Also if there is tension on the wire that plugs the light strand into your house outlet it can work itself loose when wiggled because the strands are heavier than regular string lights. I use a waterproof extension to connect the strand with the lights to my house outlet and make sure there is no tension on either plug and socket. If you have had them up in the hot weather for three months and they worked the connections could be the problem. You should also check the entire line to see if there is any weather damage.

A:  Either you have a bad string of lights or you have a loose connection somewhere. Check where they are plugged into the wal and then check where the strings of lights are plugged together. When I strung multiple lights together in my backyard I ended up taping the strings together where the plugs joined. I found that the weight of the strings sometimes caused the connections between them to start coming loose.

Q:Are these lights remote control? And do they have to be plugged into an electrical outlet?

A:  Yes they need to be plugged to a 120v outlet. That being said, you can certainly put them on a timer, or a Google / Alexa controlled outlet. If you have to plug it in outside I would consider an outdoor timer set up similar to what would be used to control holiday lighting. Good luck with your project!

A:  These do need to plug into an electrical socket. As for remote control, you can purchase a Wireless Remote Control Electric Outlet Switch. They are waterproof. I purchased one from Home Depot by a company called Defiant and it has worked really well. The current link on their website is here: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Defiant-Wireless-Indoor-Outdoor-Remote-Control-YLT-42/301844750 Price is only $10.

A:  Yes they must be plugged in to an outlet or a heavy duty outdoor extension. They do not have a remote control

A:  I placed a timer on mine so they turn on and off at set times. I have had them for four years and they are as good as the I installed them.

                    A:  Plugged into an outlet.

                      Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question. I am unable to determine why you are experiencing this issue, these light strands with bulb sockets are made to work even if only 1 bulb in screwed in. Please verify all bulbs are screwed in properly, and check the bulbs are working (you can put them into a standard light socket to verify) or put a standard household bulb you know works into one of the sockets. This issue may be the bulbs not the strand. For further assistance please contact Feit Electric customer service at 800-543-3348.

A:  The sets of lights I bought have a remote control to turn them on, and it requires batteries. The ones I purchased were by Jasco and called enbrighten, so I might have a different set. I suggest you contact the people that make the lights and ask them how to turn them on..

A:  I had the same problem 05/2020 - The bulbs will work on an inside light- not the bulbs. Tried 2 different outlets that I know work- not the outlets. Adjusted the metal tabs as described in the directions. Just a completely 100% dead strand of lights. Not 1 bulb turned on. Hoping there is some random thing I am not thinking of since I have already wasted over 5 hours on driving and installation. I would hate to have to waste more time taking them down and returning them. Any other ideas?

A:  They don't come with a dimmer, if the circuit your plugged into has a dimmer wired into it then they would dim.

A:  I really don’t think you would ever need to dim them. They are just right in my opinion, but I guess you could dim them.

A:  Never tried but since they are incandescent, I see no reason why they cannot be dimmed.

A:  Yes, they can be dimmed. All incandescent and halogen bulbs are dimmable. A single length of this light string is 11 watts x 24 bulbs, or 264 watts, so make sure your dimmer is rated for at least 264 watts. If you connect multiple strings end-to-end, you will need a higher wattage dimmer.
